Bus operator (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON3 January 2018
I would have stayed with ttc if there was more equipment that is of more benefit for the drivers and not the company. The company has been around and is not going to go under or you will lose your job, you can advance in some postions if you choose those spots
Pros
benefits, salary, i like working with people
Cons
shifts can be long and hard on family

Stressful work environment
Day General Clerk (Retired) (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON30 November 2017
The TTC has good benefits and salaries but can be a stressful work environment. The division I worked at had grown in size by fifty percent but the support staff to assist this growth had only been increased by one employee during my tenure. Some jobs (operating) have very difficult shift work and irregular off days which are not conducive to a good work/life balance. If you remain at the TTC for a long period of time work/life balance improves. I recently attended a retirement party and most people I spoke with were ecstatic that they were able to retire and follow other interests.
Pros
Good Salary and Benefits
Cons
Stressful work environment

Good Student Position
Summer Student - Stations Ambassador (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON6 October 2017
Great as a summer student given the wage and the TTC metropass. However, the culture can be a tad toxic and people become obsessive with the drama. If you have tough skin, this may be a good option given the pay, otherwise I'd chose a different company.

TRANSIT OPERATOR AND TRAINER (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON26 September 2017
The toronto transit commission was also a great company to be employed with and after over 31 years of service with the commission, I retired.
I had always enjoyed working with the public and has had several commendations from the riders who on a daily bases, relied on us for their transportation needs.

Axle Fitter (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON25 September 2017
Many careers keep you in one position without advancement. The TTC allows and encourages employees to learn and apply to different positions in the company. Work culture is up beat but can be demanding at times. The interactions on a daily basis is the most enjoyable part of the job. Come here if you want to grow.
Pros
Work life balance, educational allowance.
Cons
Management allowing unsafe practices at times.
