Good job of precarious employment makes it hard to commit to organization
Generally a great place to work good pay however, the lack of benefits for temporary employees makes it difficult to want to stay with the company. Although I am pro union, I believe that the hiring structure makes it difficult to retain you and fresh perspective and talent because they go elsewhere that have a better job security.

Experience highly dependent on branch & seniority
Pros - strong union with excellent worker protection and benefits, better than pretty much *any* other job I've seenCons - working harder doesn't necessarily lead to a promotion as many positions are seniority based; some branches also easy to work at, others very difficult due to patrons

Overall good but
The overall experiences were good but everything is based on seniority... Can tell where I will be in the 5 years, sometimes need to deal with mental heath issue/homeless people...

Unlimited Work Opportunity
Facilities Management is caught between the Library's aspiration of providing an open, welcome and inclusive public space and the reality of Toronto's urban poverty and crime. This was a workplace where public service management and staff would grasp onto you in an emergency and turn their back on you, when you encounter your own emergency.
