Bad environment for staff and clients
Employee (Former Employee) –  Kamloops, BC26 March 2019
Very unprofessional and abusive place to work. Its for profit so clients interests are not taken into account. Employees are treated like garbage very poor wages even with experience, bad hours, poor management, poor training, no breaks, overworked and management makes tons of mistakes. You have to check every cheque as they will rip you off hours. Clients are treated badly and nothing is done in their best interest. Money is their focus and constantly put people in danger as training and competency of management and staff is very poor. They somehow pass acredidation even though nothing is up to code.no future for employees and they do not offer any further training for anyone to advance. They make you pay out of your own pocket for updating first aid or any other training. You will be treated as something disposable as an employee and and your needs and complaints are not taken into account.i have worked for many companies serving clients and this is by far the worst, do not let your loved ones be cared for by this company.
Pros
Serving clients
Cons
Bad hours, low wages, no training, issues not addressed, bad client care, abuse, money focused

No breaks no privacy
Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Vernon, BC11 July 2018
This company didn’t allow for any meal breaks including lunch or coffee. They conveniently scheduled your day so you would be driving to/meeting with clients over lunch so you are forced to eat while driving. There are absolutely no coffee breaks. You are required to use your personal phone to interact with clients and they do not repay you. When a client was innapropriately text messaging me at 9 at night the company didn’t support me at all and said I should just allow it. They are too afraid to lose CLBC contracts so they cater to their clients’ every desire without considering their staff.
Pros
Flexible days of the week
Cons
Poor work life balance, no privacy, no breaks, poor management

As a community support worker you will work shifts in-house with clients, cook, clean and assist in financial/employment matters while encouraging the clients to be independent and in control of their own path.
Pros
Providing clients with a fun, safe environment.
Cons
Possible around-the-clock call-ins.

Strong Company Values
Manager (Current Employee) –  Kamloops, BC24 October 2017
TCS has strong values with leadership across the board open to feedback, open door culture promoted from first day of hire.

Great benefits and pension plan, wages standard for field, unionized so set by collective agreement and bargaining.

Fast pace, interesting and sometimes challenging environment, everyday brings something new and the reward - supporting the individuals and having a great caring team to work with.
Pros
building relationships with coworkers and clients

Could be so much better.
N/A (Current Employee) –  British Columbia21 October 2017
Too many employees do the bare minimum every day. Managers often aren't equipped or trained well enough to ensure staff fulfill their job requirements. Audits are frequently not carried out without consequence. Accountability is lacking throughout the company, as is leadership.

Community Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Prince Rupert, BC6 September 2017
A typical day at work would start with checking the daily planner for appointments or activities, checking the communication logs and activity logs, waking up my individuals, making breakfast, medication administration and recording, personal hygiene, chores, then preparing for any outings. The end of shift duties involved recording any and all daily activities, appointments, logs, meal prep, medication administration and reporting to the home manager.

Working with the clients is great
Community Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Kamloops, BC2 June 2017
The work is great, working with adults with disabilities.

Management is not always the most helpful in emergency situations. Management does not always listen to staff's needs. Management does not always seem to be working in the best interest of all clients, but more so for the business rather than a client-centred focus.

Working with the clients is the most enjoyable part of the job, but there still can be difficulties.

Learn a lot in a rewarding job
Residential Support Worker (Current Employee) –  Kamloops, BC3 November 2015
This is a challenging environment for someone with little to no experience, but for the right individual it is very rewarding and offers job experience you just can't find elsewhere. It takes a certain personality type to be successful: empathetic, strong willed, forgiving, patient, good communicator, follow instructions, learn quickly, read situations, non confrontational but honest and open. This is a great job because the rate of pay is good, the benefits and sickbays/vacaton is excellent and everyone really is doing their best to make things work. The job can be very physically demanding, mentally exhausting and emotionally draining, there is a high burnout rate, but those who love the work really love it. The individuals receiving service make everything worth it.
Pros
great coworkers, rewarding job, benefits, salary, flexibility.
Cons
emotionally draining, stressful, physically demanding.
