Been there for almost a year and a half, fired with no cause

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Came in for my shift and got told my employment was terminated, effective immediately. Also didn’t love the extreme pressure to be perfect, felt like you got in trouble for simple mistakes. Minimum wage pay also. Always asked to come in early or stay late in summer months.

Pros

I liked my coworkers, managers differ at locations but some are good

Cons

Minimum wage, asked to stay late very often, randomly got fired

worst place ever

The two sisters who own most of the locations in toronto completely over work their staff and pay them horribly. They treat their staff like property and do not respect work life balance. If you work in management, you will be expected to be available 100% of the time even during scheduled time off. The owners are always on vacation and disappear for days at a time and then come back and bombard staff with messages after work hours and fully expect responses. they set mandatory work days and times of year (blackout) and then are never ever around during those times. Don't you ever make a mistake because they will never forget it and will publicly humiliate you to set an example .Do not work here, the turn over rate is ridiculous because the owners are mean and everyone is terrified of them. Theyre completely diluted and have no self awareness.

Pros

free services, staff is amazing

Cons

toxic, overworked, low pay, disrespectful owners, clients are horrible, commission only available for some

Awful. Run.

Terrible environment. Toxic sisters that own and operate most of the Toronto stores. They should not be business owners. Run their business like a dictatorship. You can’t respond to guest emails or phone call complaints without approval from the owners. AWFULLY low wages.

Minimum wage and overworked

Doesn't matter how long you've worked there you will get the same pay as someone who is just starting out from school. Staff is not appreciated for hard work and effort. They want you to sell sell sell but barely give any commission. Run.

Okay

Good place to start at but not long term. It’s good for getting your feet on the door . Great for just coming out of school and you need somewhere to start

Pros

Great tips

Cons

Long hours

Great place very friendly

I love working at the Victoria location. It’s honestly great. I’ve been here over a year, and the management has put up with a lot of bs from workers. But no matter what they’re always respectful and want everyone to feel comfortable.

Nice job to learn the basics of receptionist duties

Worked here after being a client to my favourite aesthetician after a while. It was my first time being a receptionist, training was good and if I had any questions I could ask my colleagues, the pay was low but it’s expected since i didn’t have experience. We were all girls which was fun. My colleagues who were aestheticians would always help me, we all became friends. Cool time here.

professional but relaxed

not an overly stressful job. everyone is friendly and management takes on the bulk of the stress so employees do their work with minimum worry. there’s a clear division of duties but everyone pitches in where they’re needed. they want employees to be here for the long haul so they don’t try to work you to exhaustion.

Pros

benefits and perks like free services

Cons

some of the guests are really stuck up

messy messy messy

management is a mess, the turnover rate is insane either due to quitting or unreasonable firing. if you’re half decent at your job you’ll be expected to do everyone else’s and get no credit for it. expect to be loaded with extra responsibility and have to beg for months for a 25 cent raise to reflect that. there’s absolutely no room for moving up in the company, they’re obsessed with outside hires especially for management. they have a bad habit of throwing people to the wolves (enjoy a day or two of training and then you’re on your own). enjoy as many sick days as you please but know the other staff are aware of this already and most days you’ll be working short staffed. rude clients are rewarded with free services so if someone yells at you expect to be giving them a free pedicure later (out of your pay). HQ is constantly coming up with ridiculous promotions and ideas seemingly AIMED at making sure you make less money. overall, it’s a no from me but it’s just the port credit location. all others seem to be working fine 🤔

This place was amazing!

The only reason I left this job was because I recognized I no longer had a personal interest or passion for esthetics. The owner, the manager, and alllll the girls who work here are so amazing. I still miss everyone so much! I couldn't possibly ask for a kinder and more uplifting environment or for a more understanding boss. There's also tons of room to grow! They will accept you when you're new and work with you until you feel comfortable and ready to take on real guests! The owner also directly helped me with getting my work visa for Canada (I'm a US citizen). On top of that, the cleanliness was great, services offered are also amazing. I couldn't say enough nice things!Overall a 10/10 workplace environment for an esthetician.

Good for beginners, but nothing else

Great if you’re coming straight out of school; however, you’re stuck doing nails until management seems you good enough to move on to other services. They promise to train you but that never happen especially for laser. My advice just get some experience then get out.

Interesting experience…

I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s so unbelievably tiring to keep up with their very forced upon company culture. No work/life balance if your salaried and expected to work overtime without question. Franchise owners have no faith in their management team and everything is filtered through and checked by an operations manager first. Micromanagement to its highest degree. Employees lack trust in management and can be disrespectful since they see their own managers being micromanaged. It was one of my first management opportunities and I really wish I didn’t take it but they really know how to sell the position. It’s just not what you expect.

10/10 - if you get the right franchise partner

I've been with the company with the same franchise partner in NS since its inception - the work environment is fun, upbeat, and she truly goes above and beyond for her staff to make it a healthy work environment. Both locations in HRM are wildly busy - so be prepared to have fully booked days without much effort. This isn't a job you can sit back and enjoy your time in the staff room - it's fast paced, high energy, and high demand. If you set your mind to it - you can grow a clientele fast, and make a really decent amount of income. It's a team based job as well so the staff definitely rely on each other to help in high pressure situations.

Pros

50% off any services for staff, flexible scheduling, benefits after probationary period, no level jumping system, in house training, 20% off retail products with a 50% off monthly order day for certain brands, all equipment provided to you, good earning potentials especially if you can get good at waxing + brazillians, flexible dress code, birthday cards / goodies

Cons

Very fast paced and hectic, franchise system so you must follow protocols and steps of service for consistency, head office can be a bit overbearing when it comes to micromanagement at times

Higher ups are super rude

Management was horrible especially the higher ups, the manager wasn’t an esthetician had no experience in the beauty industry. When the higher ups train you they are breathing down your neck while you are with a client, making mean comments very unprofessional. Parking was around $12 a day.. there are no pros other then the clients were super nice.

Pros

No pros

Cons

Open seven days a week, management was terrible and parking was annoying

Bad!

The management will be nice when you first get there but they're actually going to be mean to you the whole time. People will talk behind your back.

Awful Pay

Going to college to specialize in this industry you should be getting paid way more than minimum wage, along with it being a service industry. Pay was terrible even with the working everyday. Staff was friendly to your face but very rude behind your back and never felt like i fit in, management went along with it. Very Toxic place to work.

Avoid working here

Toxic work environment with unrealistic expectations, and no support in advancement. Management doesn’t care about staff unless it’s convenient for them. Seems like a great company with values, but it’s all fake.

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, low pay, lack of support

Long hours, low pay. No incentive.

The guests are great but management is not very flexible. Cannot keep staff due to unreasonable expectations and low pay. Try and include your tips in how much you’re making to make it seem worth it. Basically no commission.

Cons

Long hours. No opportunity for growth. Everyone gets paid basically the same no matter experience.

Seemed like an ideal place to work, work environment is actually toxic once joining.

I worked as a GC and was training to be an EE, they set you up to be very competitive with your coworkers and have some toxic habits within franchise.

Pros

Benefits are okay, basic package after three months. Good sanitation standards.

Cons

Unstable schedules, competitive, toxic management, pay not liveable wage despite offering competitive wage, rude trainers, customer service standards are lacking, no protection for employees against customers in toxic situations.
