Descent work, somewhat boring and some customers suck. People have no idea what to donate, and get very annoyed when you tell they can't donate certain things

Relaxed atmosphere

No room for growth

Fast Paced and Adrenaline Loaded Environment, Not Easy but Still my Favourite

Favourite job ever, despite the iffy work culture it was all worth it. Worked in Withdrawal Management Centre in London, ON. Days are quirky and never the same twice, adrenaline loaded and can be quite stressful but some like it that way. Pay is decent, due to staffing shortage at the time and as it was unionized overtime pay was ridiculous, too good to be true. I'm not sure how they could afford all the overtime pay but it sure was nice. Always new and unusual or challenging situations when working with clients, best part of the job was having fun with coworker on long nightshifts and working with clients. The Shiftwork was hard at times. Had to take a LOA at one point and management was extremely supportive at the time. Downside was sone staff members were very unkind to clients and not trauma informed, due to some union rules some staff were kept on far longer than they should have been.

Anyone who isn't management, isn't important.

*if you upset managment in any way, you will be gone, don't question, just do it.* you pay union dues to a union that ignores you* management treats you like you are one of the clients that access the services, not as a team member*good people to work with for the most part, kind of a high school, cliquey atmosphere*not nearly enough pay for the work involved*huge communication disconnect between housekeeping staff and managment (you are a non-entity if you aren't managment)

Corporate Merger killed morale

Merger of 2 Divisions has created many issues. Layers upon layers of management, not enough workers. Significant raises for management, none for the front- lines. Poor communication. Hierarchical - do what I say, don’t ask why - none of your business. Frantic pace, long hours. Policies change without notice and when (if) policy is circulated, it’s vague and needs multiple revisions. Essential information to do the job is frequently delayed for months. You’re basically on your own. Last minute demands. No time to think.

Non-management staff is great. Couldn’t ask for better.

High stress, too much work, toxic environment.

Great team

Working at the Salvation Army was very rewarding because what I did made a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than me. The team I supported was great to work with. We had good camraderie and were a cohesive team.

Loved my job

I enjoyed working with the staff and clients at the Centre of Hope. The Managers always made sure you felt heard and secure in your job. The clients are the typical street population. Centre of Hope"s focus remains on the safety of the clients while helping the population it serves.

Good place to work

Good place to work, the hardest part for me was the physical labor of the job as I sustained an injury. The benefits were working with the people there, who eventually became my friends.

Great work environment

The office is very active with many church members/volunteers coming and going. Must be able to work with and for the various volunteers on many levels. Usually time driven tasks. The work environment if casual but professional. The administrative assistant is the representative of The Salvation Army as a international organization. You may be their only contact! It is very fulfilling!

My enjoyment as an Addiction Counsellor

I very much enjoy my career choice as an Addiction Counsellor. It has given me the opportunity to share and provide a healthier and productive life for those I have supported. There is a drastic challenge within addictions and mental health, one is putting down your "drug of choice", more challenging is the "life-style"changes that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, there continues to be limited resources- mental health care, suitable housing, withdrawal management supports ( residential or in-home) and a lack of understanding from family, friends and community. A "typical" day at work included supporting those in acute-withdrawals and those seeking treatment for their substance abuse. It involved close monitoring, ensuring appointments and phone calls were addressed in a timely fashion. It also required appropriate advocating and that "client centered" needs were acknowledged . It encompassed one-on-one counselling, adequate nutrition, psycho-educational and recreational sessions as well as an opportunity to engage in physical and volunteer experiences. My most enjoyable experiences as an Addiction Counselor is being invited to ones First Year celebration in sobriety, My most challenging is attending a funeral.

enjoyed supporting those who were actively reaching out for support.

Giving back environment

Cooking meals for 30 plus people and children. Been a part of something that means so much for people that most of us all take for granite. Working at the nursery, was a job that I wished was permanent.
