Most days, it was pretty fulfilling helping clients. There were days where it got pretty stressful. Management for the most part where there to support the staff.

Cashier

The work itself was fine, however, the pay was way below avg. Also, schedules didn't leave time to enjoy your regular day. There once was a crazy snowstorm and the employees got in trouble for closing the store 15 min early.

Needed

I always felt needed and appreciated in my position. Almost everyone there is working with the same goal - to help residents find safe, affordable, stable housing. It felt good to come to work and feel encouraged by such positive people each day.

Pros

Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner is available, unpredictability of each day.

Poor management

Care more about calls waiting than listening to the tenants. Training no structure and it's a blame culture. Keep clear. Unless you want to rush your calls and to be constantly told what you did wrong then this job is for you. Not allowed to care for tenants and they have to jump through hoops to be listened to or a job to be done urgently.

Decent place to work, lots of paperwork

Working here isn't all that bad. Somewhat feels like high school with all the drama, but overall good place to learn and grow for career advancement

No security guard in the business store hours

They management justified not to hire a security guard in the business store hours due the money is not enough to pay for. Moreover, they want you to. deal with homeless and people under drugs or alcohol, lift shopper without proper training which I was hired as CSR and not as a guard.

Pros

30 percent discount as an employee

Cons

stressful ambience when there were not guard in store hours

The work is satisfying.

The Salvation Army National Headquarters is not a true Christian non-profit organization. It is an organization that shows itself one way to the world and does not care for the employees that are not Salvationists or do not belong to “their” corps/religion. It is an organization that does not feel the need or desire to treat non-white employees equally.

Pros

Free Parking & Individual Offices

Cons

Work/Life Balance, Lack of DEI, Nepotism, Hypocrisy, No room for growth for non-white employees, Uncaring for safety of employees regarding Covid, Inconsiderate of Parents

Unfair situations left and right

I did exemplary work and loved my job. Went the extra mile. Went above and beyond. My superiors were threatened by this and I was fired for reasons that were completely fabricated. They do not care about their employees as people. You are replaceable no matter who you are. They are greedy and heartless.

Horrible experience

I had a horrible experience working for the Salvation Army. It felt like the most unprofessional workplace that ever exists. The manager spent his time eating cookies and watching Fox News and we were paid peanuts basically. One of my colleagues got a raise of 80 cents an hour after working there for FIVE years! IF you value yourself stay away from them

Pros

Free lunch but tasted bad and the portion was too small bc they wanted to save money

Cons

Everything

Consider Paying More Per Hour For Employees.

There is not enough staff. People do not stay long, the pay isn't enough for all of the physical labor some employees are required to achieve in a day's work. If your employees are going to do the job of 2 employees, please pay for 2 employees worth of work to that employee.

Pros

Expand my experience with the forklift.

Cons

low pay, lack of staff

Decent work hours and Sundays off

All in all the Salvation Army store is a stepping stone for getting back on your feet or just needing a trivial part time job, the only way you get full time hours is if you are in the management department and there is only two of them so it's just 25 hours a week, no overtime, no raises, just a simple job until you find something better

Pros

Get Sundays off

Cons

No raises and not great pay

Decent place

I worked at a Salvation Army where the manager was very laid back and chill, so that's always a plus. However, we were very short staffed, so the employees were worked hard. It's a fast paced environment, but the workload you're expected to take for just a little over minimum wage is laughable. The amount of gross people you meet in a thrift store environment is.. kind of expected but also still baffling. I can easily see where some Savlation Armys are better to work at than others, so. Keep that in mind.

Pros

Discount, Fast-Paced

Cons

Little Benefits, Overworked, Sometimes bad work environment
