P/T Associate can be a good job, depends on the store.
Associate in the Plumbing and Electrical (Former Employee) – Okotoks, AB – 16 June 2018
As a P/T from 4 - 8 hour shifts, totally random times and days. You can block off time but if you block off too much you get no hours. Training and induction can be done well, depends on the store. Management and workplace culture is different at both the stores I've worked in, some good, some not so much. There's a lot to learn in terms of the HD systems, processes, products etc. Customers are the best and worst part of the job
ASSOCIÉE AUX VENTES ÉLECTRICITÉ DEPT. & CAISSIÈRE (Current Employee) – Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC – 7 June 2018
Pros: - Wonderful Team ( has your back in times of need ) - Caring Leader ( gives rises in salary and advancements ) - Strong on technology - Understanding when need of a sick day - Good and/or genuinely nice customers (very rare bad customer)
Cons: - But not enough hours to live a good financial life (prefect for those still living with parents or has partner who brings the bread)
Good work environment with ability to advance in sales
Part-time associate (Current Employee) – Thunder Bay, ON – 21 April 2018
The home depot culture is very strong and creates a good environment. There are many opportunities to get involves within the store and with the community through the Home Depot and they are almost always willing to cross train you. Cross training is beneficial in broadening your skill set as well as opening up the departments you can receive hours from.
Almost always able to pick up extra shifts when you want to work more
Associate (Current Employee) – Toronto, ON – 19 April 2018
Despite part time status job expects you to be readily available to cover sick calls with minimal notice. Coverage on the floor is typically poor leaving you to scramble to help customers. HR in this company is typically very unhelpful - in my dealings with them no resolution was ever met and they seemed preoccupied with silencing any issues brought up to them. No matter how many skills you acquire, ex machinery operating licenses, knowledge of multiple departments or store systems, your pay WILL NOT increase. Pay raise is restricted to a few cents per year, unless your job title is changed. The workers at this store and 95% of the time amazing people who have many interesting insights into their areas of expertise or even just life in general. It is a shame the management and employee care is so poor
balance registers prepare deposits order store supplies
Vault Associate (Current Employee) – Sarnia, ON – 5 April 2018
Great employer very positive management great support and loads of fun employee activities. I daily go in at 6 am and balance all registers do all deposits, fix schedule errors-it is punch clock and errors occur, order supplies as different departments store supplies paint sticks, bags. Team members were always very supportive and most outgoing but there are always those few that take advantage. Hardest part of job is improper training and little support there but don't worry you will get it this is very frustrating to me I like knowing my job 100%.
Associate (Former Employee) – Burlington, ON – 25 February 2018
Good place to work. They do a good job of taking care of their employees with benefits, and added perks like Free Food Fridays, and fun holiday activities throughout the year. It's a fun, fast paced work environment that sometimes drains you. They are always involved in community projects and I have enjoyed volunteering with the Team Depot
The top management is great! I like the core values that the company believes in.
Associate (Current Employee) – Winnipeg, MB – 15 January 2018
The benefits are great. The company provides a lot of training to its associates. Challenging because of difficult customers. I just don't like the working hours, shifts are not fixed making it hard to find a second job. Overall, it is a great company with great people.
Tool Rental Associate (Former Employee) – Pickering, ON – 9 January 2018
the people are amazing. just a great environment. loved working there way too much. managers are so nice. even if i made a mistake you never felt like you were in trouble they treated it more as a learning experience, was the lest stressful work environment i have been in. problems because the store runs on part timers you cane stuck with more or less hours than you want. i was woking 40 hows a week every week and getting paid as a part timer. they are very flexible with action and days off.
Milworks Associate (Former Employee) – St. Albert, AB – 2 December 2017
Always a adventure. Some people love a routine for work... Well you can find that here but to really enjoy and embrace working at Home Depot yo need to be willing to follow where your tasks take you, You could start out in the Lumber Aisle and end up in Plumbing or Electrical a hour later all with the same customer.
VAULT ASSOCIATE (Current Employee) – Hamilton, ON – 14 October 2017
The benefits for pt are phenomenal. You will be greatly rewareded if you're willing to work. love my job there. Sometimes there are not enough hours to go around, therefore you should be cross trained in order to be able to be versatile .
friendly staff, approachable management lots of work perks
