fun place to work, people are great and there is always something to do. sometimes too much work for just one person with slightly unrealistic time frames

For a company that's almost 20 yrs old, feels like a infant company scrambling to find themselves. Almost limitless room for opportunity for those who want it, but is a very, very rocky road.

Day to day is some sort of corporate limbo, missing the fun character and personality of a local pub, but offers no personal/professional growth that the bigger guys do.
Pros
They have some real good people trying to make it work.
Cons
Higher ups come off as impersonal to the team that keeps their ship afloat.

Toxic, Unprofessional, Cut-throat atmosphere. Don't work there. That place breaks so many labor and service laws, It's unreal. Training was almost non-existant. Most of everything I did learn was learned by asking other people or trial and error. And by far the WORST Management is beyond two-faced.
Pros
Free cola
Cons
Diabetes

Managers are not professional, exercise favouritism among employees, tip out is ridiculously high so you don’t even make good money as a server. Honestly, this was the most toxic work environment I have ever worked in and the disorganization throughout all the stores is not ok. Has a reputation for being dirty, expensive, bad food, bad service, and over serving guests. Not impressed.

I thought and hoped The Canadian Brewhouse was this great place to work, such an awesome concept however it turned out to be the worst experience and waste of time and money.

I really wanted to love working here but the brewhouses true colours shown through very quickly. - Don’t pay mandatory 3 hrs. Training vertically non existent. Can never find managers when needed. Not enough cutlery EVER. Never have anything stocked(skip stickers, dishes, sauces, food). Complain about people going to the bathroom. Poor communication- not direct, and dishonest. Unorganized/poorly scheduled. Tip out was often incorrect and can take anywhere from 48 hrs - to over a week to receive. Manager had kids there often babysitting and free food(daily). Managers don’t help when they can - will be sitting at the bar eating food when they could be helping backed up bar and kitchen. Lots of burnt out staff. Managers offer to pay staff with alcohol rather than money. Managers became hostile towards you after you’ve shown no interest in them. Push 500000 things to promote to each table. Terrible food. Not clean. Lots of complaints and I don’t blame them.

Managers were like bad sales men. Super friendly but you could tell were just real shady. I started looking for a new job within a few weeks of starting.

The work environment was exciting and fast paced. Management would struggle at times to communicate in an effective manner and an unfair amount of emphasis is put on workers to help sell the companies ideas and events but all in all its a good place to work.

Management here I found to use a lot of favoritism in the workplace and caused a very unfair work environment. Would not recommend to work here unless you are a brown noser.

Don't work here. This place breaks so many labor and service laws, It's unreal. Expect to have 15 minutes doctored off every shift, for a mandatory "pre-shift" in which, 80% of the time, a manager isn't even there to do one. Worked as a bartender and was consistently told to get customers so wasted they couldn't see. Consistently told to under pour beer, under pour shots, "heavy on the ice and mixer" Kind of environment. It was so bad that we were threatened with write-ups for literally spilling drops of beer. Training was almost non-existant. Most of everything I did learn was learned by asking other people or trial and error. And by far the WORST thing about working for this company is the feeling of how expendable everyone is. Management is beyond two-faced. They will tell you "great job" then fire you the next day for not being fast enough. No warning. No notice to get your act together. No tips on how to improve or what they want. They'll just terminate you and replace you right before your 3 month probation is up. They also treat you different if you don't party with them. Management is extremely close-knit. Most of them even live together. Expect to be fired if you don't drink away your pay check everyday sitting at their depressing wood. Also, hands down the most sexist place you'll ever work. I'm a male But I was told numerous times by managers and other staff "I was only hired for my appearance, we only hire pretty people" Don't even expect an interview If you aren't attractive and don't fit in to their trashy, Party lifestyle. Many of the customers who came in were - more...

90% of their kitchen staff are foreign workers and they treat them like slaves because they have no choice and when a canadian work there eaither he accepts to be treated the same or he leaves, no overtime pay, they pay your tips in the pay sub not cash (80$ biweekly) which makes it taxed, they ask the FOH to be dicks to the BOH...

Great fun place to work, not the most professional but it is the service industry. Corporate support varies. The overall enjoyable and stable work environment leads to strong relationships with customers and staff alike.

Regular serving job, learned how everything was done around there (mostly by asking not by being shown). Management is 2 faced, I think it is a requirement to be a manager there. Depending on who you would be working with the workplace culture was great, but other times not so much. Most enjoyable part of the job is the customers hands down, theres always awesome people you get to serve. They do not follow all labour laws, be warned

The worst management I’ve ever seen. Will cut back hours as much as possible. They do not follow labour laws. You are treated very unfairly as a staff member. Most of the managers/supervisors are extremely two faced. You can’t trust any of them
Pros
50% of booze (can drink after shift)
Cons
Stressful and unorganized

Clock in times were often doctored.. Mandatory meetings were unpaid. Had some cases where management cut a shift after 1 hour then didn’t pay out the mandatory 3 hours for coming to work. Expectations aren’t communicated very well. If you don’t sit at the bar after every shift and drink away your pay check they will treat you differently...

Worked there for almost a year, the "time off request" was a fat lie. You don't receive breaks, you lose 15 minutes of pay to show up for a mandatory pre-shift. Many of my friends got let go before the 3 months for very trivial reasons. If you don't look the part they cut you. Management pick's their favourites and those are generally the people who get desired shifts. They rely on promo to bring your friends in, and pretty much over serve everybody that wants to sit @ the wood. Bartenders handle skip the dishes, and any shortages that occur i.e. walkouts or skip cash transactions that were lost, you were responsible to pay for out of your tips, or they would take it out your pay checks.
Pros
Met some pretty cool people, and made some solid friends
Cons
Business model is flawed, and management is immature/undertrained.

There is a daily shift in what is expected of you as an employee in this department. Workplace culture is definitely a "man's" world. Women very seldom are promoted and men rise immediately to management positions with absolutely no management, people or company experience. This causes a great amount of turn over in the administration side of the company. Unfortunate as well is that premium training and favouritism is outwardly shown to the younger staff. The owners are great guys, but have really lost touch with the roots of the company and are not paying attention to the culture that is being created.

Irresponsible liquor service, pre-shift
(15 minutes they don't pay you for) is usually an encouragement to get people fired up, AKA wasted

EXTREME favouritism

Toxic work environment - starts out fun, until you realize you're in an abusive relationship

They ride their good servers so hard, they burnout...which leads to high turnover.

Certain servers allowed to drink on shift, they are also allowed to come to work intoxicated, and nothing happens.

1/2 of 5% support tipout goes to head office, kitchen only gets $1/hour tip out!

Slavery is a word that comes to mind
