Reward good employees. Plain and simple. When your best workers have to beg for 50 cent raises there is a serious problem. What kind of message does it send to new employees when your best workers are getting denied for minor raises? It breeds a negative culture and work environment. Management takes them for granted, they always have. You give them no choice but to leave and look for other employment opportunities.
