Dedicated Team in a difficult market segment
Senior Solutions Advisor and Consulting Architect (Current Employee) –  Buffalo, NY8 March 2018
Most of the people I work with at Synacor are hard working, dedicated, and want to do an excellent job. The businesses they compete against are excellent and formidable competitors and the sales cycle is very long. The management team is willing to invest in new products but a significant return is required.
Pros
Good People
Cons
Restricted resources

Good place to work
Engineer (Current Employee) –  Remote23 December 2017
Synacor is a fantastic place to work, the culture of being able to work remotely or to attend the office with casual clothes gives it a touch of flexibility that is appreciated in these modern times. My direct managers have always been available to work hard but also to help me through the career development process, a good place to work.
Pros
Colleagues, International Offices, great salary

They have their ear to the ground to great things coming in new technologies. They have the connections with global clients to grow quickly over the next few years.
Pros
Great CEO
Cons
To far away from my home.

Technically fun - but its reputation for fast moving, long, hard workdays is well deserved.
Senior Engineer (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NY29 July 2017
Quoting one of my interviewers: "The 40 hour work week is a rumour." The workload can be overwhelming.
Lots of innovation in the tech stack.
Great culture for introducing new languages, tools, and frameworks.
You need to work hard to keep up, but you will be rewarded for it - I learnt more in 2 years there than I had in the previous decade combined.
Consistent DevOps environment from the Developers.
Developers should be passable at some System Administration and Database Administration.
Pros
Get to test lots of media; lots of innovation; great technical discussions and such.
Cons
Not for the faint of heart - work-life balance is sometimes non-existent.

I learned quite a bit here at Synacor. I really loved this job. I am sorry it has to end. I was brought in as a temp and worked 8 months for them. Loved every minute of it!

Thanks Synacor!!!
Pros
Fresh fruit in lunch room, .25 snack machines and relaxed atmosphare
Cons
Restructuring my work load and sending it out of state.

Culturing workplace which is open to helping you learn
Engineer (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NY7 December 2014
Synacor was a great place to work as a beginning programmer. Having little real world experience, this company was a great way to expose me to large scale projects. Management likes to help you accomplish career goals and is willing to find out what makes you tick as a programmer.

At Synacor, you gain experience in a variety of languages if you choose to learn them and management is happy to throw new work at you and see how you do. Teams are very closely knit and are extremely helpful.

Only downside is that the company frequently performs layoffs and struggles to define what it is they want to do for customers. They do not have a clear direction, and this leads to poor profits which leads to good programmers getting laid off without any say from team managers.
Pros
Good way to learn new languages, benefits, nice culture and work environment
Cons
Frequently spending late nights at the office, little recognition for efforts outside of your team, frequent lay offs, poor upper management

Treats their employees well
Content Publisher (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NY5 March 2014
This is a company that really cares about its workers. Work days can be odd. Some positions require weekend shifts or late nights. The pay is OK, but not the best you will find. However, Synacor goes up and beyond in doing many things, such as fully covered health insurance, very affordable dental and vision plans, 25 cent vending machines, free fruit, coffee and tea for all of its employees, many company activities and casual dress code. The management is pretty in touch with the day-to-day operations for its employees. You learn a lot about how web portals operate. Most of the co-workers are young, ambitious, creative and open-minded people.
Pros
benefits, dress code, atmosphere
Cons
shifts, pay
