Working at the airport was so much fun. My day started setting up the counters and stanchions and getting called for arrivals, to help deplane/guide passengers. Then spent some hours in the counter or kiosks helping passengers to check-in and later on, go to the gate to assist with flight departures. Also had to accompany minors or people with disabilities to the gate and push wheelchairs, so you need to be physically able to walk long distances and multi-task.The best part are the colleagues I met and the good friends I made. It is true that is not organized, but employees are the key to make things work. I did enjoy working with Swissport despite the chaos.
Easy to trade or give away shifts, free uniform, fun and friendly environment, they made events for employees.
Low salary, benefits after several months, big responsibilities, schedule changes, absenteeism, stressful when cancellations or delays, passengers complaining.
In general it's a good company for start up with 2 week paid traning, travel discounts and benefit is not bad . There is opportunity to grow if you stay more than six months. There are different shift to choose from.Morning, afternoon or evening.
Job is easy
Hourly wage is not sufficient
At Swissport, I learnt how to use many computer software programs related to flight data and analysis. I improved on communication and interpersonal skills through presentations and working in groups. The managerial staff were pleasant and very helpful. The most enjoyable part of the job was the environment as I find the aviation industry to be fascinating. The hardest part of the job in my opinion would be balancing planning the workforce in the presence of absence factors and meeting the budget targets.
If you love a stagnant job that promotes seniority and doesn't listen to anything anyone new someone says to improve the job then this is the job for you. A joke of a job and a waste of time.if you want to go anywhere in life don't do this job.
I can't think of any
Way too many to waste my time writing.
Good people to work with, plus they took safety very seriously .Was a great learning experainceWas very cool to work around airplanes an was provided the learning tools to work with different airplanes if you like planes.
Somtime customers would do thing for the ramp on a job well done
Very physical work
Don’t waist your time applying it’s a place where management just never appreciates employees. You will be horribly under paid for the amount of work you will have to do and the amount of stress that you will receive from passengers and management. There’s no flying benefits! There’s no pension plan! You will be under paid, ALWAYS under stress by the passengers and management. You will be ignored by the management if you need their help but you will hear from them ones there will be a complaint against you from a passenger. Horrible place to work at.
Easy way to put your foot in to the airport industry
Wrong company to work at
air industry is the most heavily regulated industry in Canada, all employers must follow Transport Canada guidelines at all times. very nice you get to meet many different types of people and it's a good stepping stone if you want to become a part of a flight crew one day.
Great place to work with wonderful people. Stressful yet everyone was able to get a laugh in to lighten the mood. Company always gives chances to advance and learn a new skill. They encourage and provide a lot of training and coaching. During the Covid19 outbreak, they supported their staff by allowing Masks and gloves, so the employee is protected and comfortable working.
Great team work ethics. Celebrates birthday. Has code of ethics training and allows workers to refuse a type of work that they were never trained on. Safety and Health is very important.
Some employees don't follow rules.
