This place does not have your best interest in mind!!

So this is for the suncor port moody terminal. First off starting wage is 33$/he so I'll save you some time with that info. So I went for an in person interview with these clowns and I know they wanted to hire me but I turned it down as I was already making more money with my then long time employer. So without my consent or any regard for my privacy, these goofs decided to ask a salesman at our Delta location about me. I work in the north van plant and this guy knows absolutely nothing about me but they thought it was ok. It was not. He proceeded to tell my big boss at my plant who then relayed it to my supervisor who thought he was pretty smart and tells me "so we know about suncor". This didn't matter as it made my day telling him I took a new position with another company anyways. The bottom line is Suncor had no regard for my privacy or the situation they put me in with my now old employer. The most unprofessional thing I've ever seen or heard of. Dont work for these guys. They dont care about you or what awkward position they put you in. Thank God I turned down the job.

Pros

Nothing

Oil and gas

What I learned from Suncor was also the hardest part, learning to put up with different rules due to it being a union company. Still, the most enjoyable part, was the operating of equipment and meeting new people. I found the workplace culture wasn't overly friendly. A typical day for me there was to do my work without asking too many questions because they either weren't answered or I felt dumb for asking and a few times the operators were too cranky to answer and would rather yell at me. Management,,,,

Always learning

I would walk around the unit looking for anything out of the ordinary. Perform tasks as an operator. Swing pumps, and open and close valves as required.

Pros

Working with great people

Cons

You get tired really easily

Productive and excellent Learning experience.

The Suncor Refinery was a great place for people taking their first step into the operating world. Co-workers took the time out to teach me hands on and the theory behind day to day operations.

Bad benefits, decent salary

Worked as an operator doing shift work. If your ok with shift work than this is a great job, it's located in the city, easily accessible. Seemed like the employees were not happy about the benefits plan, saying things like Shell and Esso have a much better plan for their employees. Other than that it was a fun place to work, great people to work with, management wasn't really noteworthy. Salary is decent compared to other major companies for operators starting upwards of 85k.

Great co-op work experience. Great place to work, with great people.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the support and people you meet. Everyone was very helpful and the training is second to none.

Pros

Bus ride into and out of work

Cons

Did not get a full time position after co-op work term.

Suncor

Suncor is great company to work for. The benefits are in line with all other oil companies and the work atmosphere at the plant i work at is good. Safety is differently at the top of everyone s list no matter if your the floor cleaner or the CEO

Pros

good pay, loads of training, good benefits

Cons

the drive in at the plant i work at can be a challenge

Great company to work for. Advancement is only hindered by your own abilities.

Good pay, awesome workforce, lots of room for advancement. Some jobs are fairly labour intensive (hello cokers) but the pay is good and overtime is abundant. Great advancement in the power engineering field; got fourth class time in six months and immediately qualified and began third class.

Pros

good pay lots of room for advancement.

Cons

not many if you're from industries other than oil and gas.

very productive and allows endless amounts of learning

Typical days involved samples and checks. The program that was in place allowed for easy learning of the plants. Management was very good. Co-works were always happy to help.

Pros

good work environment

Cons

not easy for a commuter
