Hard work, poor pay. No appreciation for senior staff
Direct Care Worker (Former Employee) –  Peterborough, ON15 June 2018
This company encourages high turnover and inconsistentcy in staffing. The residents have different people coming in and out of their lives all the time because the company pushes out senior staff and encourages turnover. Upper management have no idea how unhappy staff are and how the constant turnover greatly affects the clients in care. It is heartbreaking to watch.
Pros
The clients
Cons
Poor pay, huge responsibility, crazy high turnover

Direct Support Worker (Former Employee) –  Pickering, ON26 May 2017
While I enjoyed working with the individuals and co-workers management was another story they were very disorganized never taking responsibilities for their actions as well unappreciative and unfair in who they want to recognize thus creating a very toxic and stressful environment.

Experience was great but only regrets the lack of respect from management. Too many cooks in the kitchen
Pros
Great Experience working with the individuals
Cons
Needs improvements management too complex as well toxic

Decent but Difficult
Direct Care Worker (Former Employee) –  Peterborough, ON11 April 2017
While I love working for Stewart Homes for the work itself, the issues regarding the management staff have made it a stressful nightmare.
It is a naturally stressful job providing care to physically and mentally disabled individuals, that is made worse by constant disorganization in middle management. Schedules are printed less than a week in advance, then changed constantly over the period they are covering, this makes it very difficult to have any sort of life as a part-time employee or make planes because your shift could change anytime. .
Part-time staff are oftentimes performing the same responsibilities but are paid much less than their full-time counterparts; the is on top of the fact they are often treated as lesser employees
Stewart Homes does have a great team setting and try to afford us every opportunity to succeed. Staff communicate very well and have a great support system set up for one another. Stewart Homes is a good place to work but one needs to have a high tolerance for constant change and stress.
Pros
positive atmosphere, good teamwork
Cons
hectic scheduling, wages

Direct Care Worker (Current Employee) –  Peterborough, ON4 July 2013
The job really grows on you with residential bonding.
Great fun filled outings.
Coworkers are easy to get along with as well as management staff.
Getting enough hours is often hard to get when on part time. Awake over nights are difficult to adjust if you are not used to that lifestyle.
Communicating with residence that have different levels of understanding is sometimes difficult but rewarding and a great learning experience when you have figured out each person.
=)
Pros
flexable shifts, great co workers
Cons
part time does not hold enough hours

Pros
free lunch, freedom to bring them anywhere
