Work environment is decent, lack of advancement. Coworkers are friendly, I enjoy working at Stantec, and hope I can work at a different department in the future.

For the 4 years that I was at the Toronto Wellington Office there was incredible staff turnover. Very poor upper management. In times of difficulty it's the lower levels of staff that are let go first. No job security. Your always wondering when it's your time. No chance for advancement. Yearly pay raise is less than cost of living. They concentrate on bidding on large projects where smaller project wins would sustain the office with enough work. They have lost a number of proposals due to an inept proposal team. Projects have dwindled. No work sharing with other offices.

Terrible, poor & manipulative management with rude behavior. They built cults within the studio groups. If you want to be independent and avoid politics than this company is not for you .

Most people are avoiding studio meetings. The studio directors are great manipulators, with low-ranking manager / supervisor puppets ..

The biggest employee turnover ever..... Based on the company yearly report, last year they hired 100 new staff to compensate on employee loss. And every year its same old story... Generally speaking it takes 1-3 years for new employees to leave the company .

Growth opportunities not available. Often talented individuals are forced to job-hop from one company to another in order to grow in status and compensation..

..

Work-life imbalance. Due to constant company restructures, you have to work longer hours and weekends just to meet deadlines.

Enjoyed working there, and the people I worked with were great and very knowledgable. There was a lot of resources available.

Middle management seemed friendly, but cold hearted at the end, as no job options or retraining was presented.
Pros
Great people and resources
Cons
Sometimes seems like the company is too large.

Got along with other employee, friendly working environment and had board games during lunch hour and worked from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Usually accumulate 2 weeks of vacation by the end of the year and you could bank your additional hours.

On Fridays there were doughnuts and casual wear.

Working outside depends on the weather and usually starts up in May and ends in November. Working in the office is usually 7.5 hours, working area is very open and software's are always up to date.
Pros
Free doughnuts and friendly environment
Cons
Economy and working long hours outside.

I have over 10 years working experience in Toronto Architectural firms. I have a thorough knowledge of building systems and detailing with the ability to work independent to develop and prepare working drawings. Coordinating contract documents and document checking.

I started at Jacques Whitford and then it was bought out by Stantec. Project managers became accountants and we all became a number. Management really is terrible especially in Markham and Mississauga. There is NO respect for people that work in the field.
Pros
There are some good people working there.
Cons
Management.

A nice, friendly and stressless environment to learn or work in. Great for entry or higher eng/mgmt positions. A few steps ahead of the government but never pretends to compete with the private sector at all fronts. Constant cadre turnover, branch staff gets to be stolen in whole groups, leaving none of main weight-carrying specialists in the office at the end of the season, and there is no need to come early or run an extra mile at your job as it never gets noticed or appreciated. Lots of safety and culture talk. Overall pleasant, positive experience. Just don't take it all too seriously and chill while off school.
Pros
Culture, overtimes, corporate perks, decent equipment and solid support.
Cons
bottom line always wins, any extra steps you do are unnoticed

Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Stantec - sad to leave such a great company:( The I&C Department was the best bunch of co-workers to learn and grow with. Loved the flexible hours, ability to fully learn the engineering project life cycle and how the Instrumentation I worked on in the field is designed. Great to have an opportunity to design facilities that would be tech friendly!

Stantec is a really well organized with their cad standards, therefore making your job easier.
if you a drafter then you are drafter, it seems a little hard to advance as a designer.
Pros
great CAD standards
Cons
hard to advance

A typical day at work consisted of assisting with the design process and preparing electrical plans for institutional/ commercial buildings and generator replacements using CAD/Revit programs. I have increased my knowledge in fire alarm, lighting, power distribution plans, single line diagram and panel board schedule drawings following the Canadian Electrical Code. Continuously communicated with architects and other engineering disciplines as required for design coordination for multiple projects. The most enjoyable part of the job was completing a project and seeing the final product.
Pros
free lunch and learn
