Nice coworkers were the only reason to stay. The actual position was not ideal.

Indeed featured review

Management in the OR was terrible, and they’d “force” shifts & call shifts on me due to lack of staff. I was working every weekday, and almost every weekend. It’s almost inhumane. (I AM A PART TIMER…)

Pros

Fun Staff

Cons

Long hours

High turnover management, arbitrary decision makers, wasteful spending

High senior leadership; decision making without clinical input leads to bad decision making from leadership and wastful spending; make cuts at bedside instead of looking at leadership spending; very top heavy; leadership creates agnst amounst employees leading to toxic work envirnoment; all extra support are only available to admin staff as it's during working hours mond-fri; but mentality "look at what we are doing for you", staff are turning on each other due to toxicity of the environment created by leadership

Be Cautious

Overworked, always short staffed even in non-clinical areas. Management is not supportive. Administration is toxic, bullying is ignored. Great job for lazy people who don’t want to succeed based on productivity. Get in, get the experience and get out. Frequent turnover.

Impactful but stressful

St. mary's was a good place to work as a covid screener. Despite the job itself not being stressful, the encounters with the public where we were constantly spoken to very poorly could be stressful at times. St. Mary's was required to follow public and government health rules, which despite not being our [employee] fault, we were the front line after nurses for receiving neglect for anyone wanting to visit the hospital. This could have been enforced more strictly by the hospital, as there were countless cases of mistreatment of the screener staff repeatedly.

Pros

Understanding management, Opportunities for personal improvement

Cons

Short scheduling time, some departments are demanding

Fun workpplace

I'd love to do a placement at St. Mary's general hospital again. Kinda hectic environment but it gave me a great experience as a practical nursing student.

A horrible work environment that you should avoid.

What is the best part of working at the company? The environment is not very friendly and management isn’t either. HR is horrible. If you get hurt they don’t really care. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Literally everything the place is toxicWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?Toxic and not inviting nor encouraging. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Hectic. Too many patients to complete total care. Patient to nurse ratio is 1-7 on days and 1-9 on nights.

Not at all the same hospital I used to know

Management is a revolving door, nothing gets accomplished, and too much management in the building but are not engaged or knowledgeable of reality. Offer no solutions and no discipline for poor attendance/employees, therefore good employees are leaving or on extended mental health leaves, as it has become unbearable. I pray things will turn around but have little hope.

Disorganized

Felt overworked and underpaid as a nurse on staff. Management was disorganized when I was there during peak COVID. The nursing staff on the units I worked in were great but did hear about cattiness from RNs toward RPNs on other floors.

Unsafe workplace. As most hospitals these days. Denies airborne spread of viruses. Toxic work culture allowed to flourish.

Workload is unreasonable. It's about pushing through as many patients as possible. They've taken the position that hospital transmission of airborne viruses is acceptable and that staff cannot prove that they got covid at work so it can be denied.Leadership was terrible under previous CEO. St.Joe's Hospital system also has made bad executive decisions resulting in wasted money and poor staff morale.

Great Hospital, Great place to work

I have been here for a while now and I really like it. I am able to learn a great deal more about patient care and continue to build on my skills and experiences. They pay fair and have a good amount of pick-ups available. It's a nice place to work with some really great staff members.

Pros

extra shifts, management support, team work, fair pay

Cons

older client population, food options if you forget your lunch.

Great place to work

Great place to work. Can be stressful at times. The only downside is that benefits are not offered to part time staff in a traditional way. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

I enjoyed my 20 years working there

I’m recently retired, worked at St Mary’s for twenty years. Was a great place to work and grow. I have many fond memories. Learned an awful lot, enjoyed my years in the operating room, very interesting indeed. Great people and opportunities. Missing it greatly I must say.

Pros

Free lunches at times

Cons

Short staffed at times

great care given to patienrs

Work-life balanceworking here is better than most care facilities.. however if you do not like 12 hrs shifts don't apply.Pay & benefitsthe benefits are only available if full-time. The pay should be more.. but that is like all pay for PSW we're more hands on with the patients than any other medical worker. That's true of anywhereManagementmost management in the medical field are clueless when it vines to patients.. unless they themselves were a psw or nurse..OverallI love working here.. as normal you deal with people from all walks of life. However most of us respect each other. That's the one thing most places lack is respect for each other.. but professionals work here!

Don't do it

MDRD is the worst place I have ever worked in my life. My co-workers and the supervisor contributed to a toxic work life. While training, I had coworkers? Whom were training me incorrect, would go behind my back to talk garbage about me to the supervisor. You never come out of decontamination unless you were a favorite. Good luck finding someone to stay and enjoy working there.Glad I'm GONE.

Pros

I'm gone

Cons

Pretty good!

Good place to work. Lots of great staff and lots of fun. Management isn’t super supportive or attentive and you’re lucky to get an email back if you have a concern. Some snotty know it all nurses who take advantage of the clinical aides and want them to do their jobs for them, but majority are very good. Hard to get a permanent position as there as so many temps.

Pros

Patient care is great, lots of great nurses

Cons

Lazy nurses, inability to get permanent position, unsupportive management.

Great Experience with Covid19 pandemic

I came to St. Mary's to help with covid positive patients. I have enjoyed my time and being able to use and teach my skills at well as learn more, has been great. Although some of the colleagues were not so happy to embrace us as agency care workers, we eventually learned and worked well with one another.

Pros

Lots to learn and share

Cons

RN's not so open to use PSW'S to help.

Great experience

Great experience as a new grad RPN. There is teamwork. The manager is willing to listen to the staff and very approachable. I just only hope that they offer more shifts to PT employees than agencies.

Pros

Free snacks sometimes, life and work balance, management

Cons

offer few extra shifts for PT
