Meaningful work

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
A pretty great place to work. The job is purposeful and meaningful. Work/life balance can be a bit difficult with 12 hour shifts, but it takes a certain type of person to do this job. The staff and management are helpful and supportive. The floor is often short staffed, but it is a supportive group, working together in all aspects and looking out for each other.

Pros

Supportive, team work

Cons

Long hours, potential for injury, difficult work/life balance

Client focused, relaxed, good reimbursement but low tolerance for staff mistakes

I enjoyed a long and rewarding career here, loved the clients and co-workers. But leadership is quick to fire staff over well-intentioned mistakes. SJHC has a reputation for this so you have to watch your back and be careful to get permission in writing from leadership if you want to change any part of your practice to better support client care.

You are appreciated for the work you do and usually always supported.

The Veterans Care Program at Parkwood Institute is probably the best place I have ever worked. Most of the management is supportive and truly interested in helping you achieve your goals and listen to what you have to say. The staff are a wonderful bunch to work with and very inclusive. I truly felt like a part of the work "family".

Pros

Good pay and positive workspace

Cons

Some coordinators do not reflect the values well and are self-serving

Good company as far as hospitals go

I really like working at St. Joe’s. It pays higher than most places for my role as an OTA/PTA. However, due to the union the benefits are not great, we are limited to a raise of only 1% per year. There is no room for growth in my role. Promotions are strictly by seniority only so it doesn’t matter whether or not someone is a good candidate for the role. I wouldn’t go back and choose to work in healthcare again but as far as hospitals go, St.Joes is great. I really like my leader and the teams there. It’s a very caring and compassionate environment.

Pros

Job security

Cons

Benefits, raises, job growth

Friendly staff and worth the pay

Overall I had a great time working there. Hours were available to pick up and management was available for any questions. I would recommend working here.

Has pros and cons

People have to share office spaces. Part time people don't always have a designated work area which makes it hard when you support clinics with lots of paperwork. A lot of times you have to print stuff off as needed which is time consuming and not efficient. Onboarding is a joke for new employees. They are trained without having full access to hospital software and everything set up. Work tasks are not evenly distributed. Some clinics run a lot of virtual programs which is time consuming to manage and doesn't leave a lot of time for everyday duties or filling schedules for providers. Some clinics are not as busy and staff having nothing else to do.

Pros

Staff Lunches, Free chips

Cons

Too much work coordinating virtual clinics, not enough time to manage everyday tasks.

Good place to work

For the time I was there I enjoyed my experience. Every work place has its cons, but overall the staff was really nice and supportive. The only thing I would point out in my personal experience was the lack of consistency with training and communication between sites.

Poor management

Didn’t take the requests and opinions of the staff seriously at the management level. High turnover due to management not willing to be fair with workers.

Could be good but isn't.

My time there started good but steadily declined. The hospital likes having DSWs on staff because it looks good but don't know or really care what they are qualified to do. They also don't understand the clientele on the unit. No garenteed hours, no benefits, no vacation or sick time

Cons

Dangerous work.

Good job security

As long as you stick with it, you will have job security here. Hard to maintain good work life balance but pays the bills! Good for a younger employee.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

Inflexible hours

Human Resources Consultant Review - St. Joeseph’s Hospital

I was hired as a HR Consultant and I was excited until I had my first day. The actual duties of the job are nowhere near what is portrayed in the interview and in the job posting. My “office” was a old storage closet with no windows. Expect to work 50+hr weeks and get paid for 47.5hrs. Also if you get sick there are no paid sick days, but there is a policy that doesn’t allow you to enter the building. The people are pleasant, but the management motivates through fear of consequences. If you enjoy being constantly stressed out about meeting deadlines and like over complicated job processes, St. Joe’s HR team is the perfect environment for you!

Best job. Periodt.

The best job I ever had. I loved the residents, management, my coworkers, the pay, the benefits, pension. I loved everything about St. Joes and there isn't a day that I dont regret leaving

Pros

Everything

Cons

Working weekends and holidays

Top heavy management style. Money wasted due to program management model.

Too many management positions when front line staff are chronically short. Covid exacerbated this issue but it has been longstanding. Work life balance is NOT a philosophy they practice. Feedback from front line staff is requested but nothing changes and in some cases the situation gets worse as a result of providing your feedback. Minimal staff recognition for the staff that come for all their shifts and work hard.

Cons

No scheduled part time work for allied. No vacation or sick time coverage.

Horrible place to work

Thrown out like a piece of garbage for deciding what was best for me during the pandemic. No option to test or work from home. No options given. Almost 20 years as an RN at that hospital and just to be fired. Would not recommend working here unless you want to continue to be a lab rat for life. They have taken away all your rights to decide what goes in your body

Fun workplace

The management is extremely helpful in supporting employees’ growth. Extraordinary workplace with wonderful individuals and facilities. Lots of growth

Company doesn’t follow their own mission statement

It’s a great place to work until you make a personal health decision that doesn’t align with their newly created policies. This is not the place to work if you want to have bodily autonomy.

Flexibility to make my appointments during work hours.

I have been at St Joe's for 5 years now. My co workers are a great group to work with. I have had some medical issues recently and they have been very accommodating.

Cons

Repetitive work. Everyone needs to be on the same page

Ok

Part time forever. Bounced all over the schedule. Phone never stops ringing. Pay is decent. Skills do not help you advance , all based on seniority which can be frustrating. Work short a lot, which is ok depending which unit you are on. Great opportunities to try different units. Staff can be difficult at times, takes time to fit in. Not all units have the same schedules. A lot are 12s (continental) or 8s. Both suck full time.
