Not a Caring, Compassionate or Committed Employer
Poor Senior Management and it starts at the top with the President & CEO who has been there to long and spends more time trying to make things look good to the Board and the Public instead of rolling up the sleeves and problem-solving with the team. Virtually non-existent when the going gets tough. CEO lacks self awareness and so things won’t change. Staff no longer have faith in or believe in senior management. Always looking for the “fall” guy. Very female dominated leadership team and this hurts the organization.

Horrible place ever. They treat employee like a trash. (Especially staffing). Change assigned unit without notify. Even tell them not comfortable or confidence to work in other unit they still force person to work.Reject vacation request multiple time. Unpaid overtime. Always short of staff. Failed to provide safe workplace(Even concern about workplace safety issue they will ignore ). Very rude&disrespect. Bad management. .Never ever recommend some one to work here. This is the last place if you cannot get job in anywhere else.

Great Place to work
I really enjoyed my time with St. Jospehs Care Group. Everyone was so welcoming and offered supportive help along the way. I would highly suggest working for them

Supportive staff
Providing care in a fast-paced environment can be taxing on body and mind but everybody works together to help each other out. The environment at St. Joseph's Hospital is something to look forward to when coming into work. All of the staff are very friendly and supportive!

terrible
You should work here if you enjoy having no breaks, being overworked, underpaid, understaffed, written up for every tiny error when you’re trying your best with only two PSWs on the floor, and want to face burnout. the management of this facility do not stick up for their employees under any circumstance. they are so quick to fire people for small reasons, even though they are desperate for staff and we always work short, therefore are unable to provide proper care. being a nursing student working as a PSW, i never get to work on the floors i pick up my shifts on, due to numerous people always calling in i am forced to work throughout the building on floors i don’t know, meaning inconsistent care for clients, which is incredibly unfair to them. once i become a registered nurse i will definitely not be working here.
Pros
working with the elderly, health care experience for future nurses
Cons
everything else

Horrible place to work
Workload is 1 to 11 residents, if somebody called in its 1 to 16 residents. Work not completed, managment down your throat or you get written up for doing your best.

Good and bad depending on your view
Hard and challenging work at the patient care level. Slow to respond to needs by management. That good first place to work/ challenge for long term success. If you want to advance you’ll need to move somewhere else.
Focus is towards patients or clients or residents; but the same consideration is not given to staff.

Poor work culture as things are never addressed by management.

Awful
HRM- yes it really is as bad as they say it is. Third party management has given all the tools for quality care delivery to the administrator, DOCs, and clinical managers. You would think HRM management would improve with this assistance... they don't even have to create process of care delivery! They are only tasked to be accountable for its implementation. And that's the problem- they refuse to be accountable, it's a disgrace. June 2019 compliance report details how processes are in place however in every incident of neglect the administrator and management fail to act. Yet, they are all STILL employed, and registered staff are fired, forced out, reprimanded, or lose their license in witch hunts that have no purpose but to hide the incompetence of management. The building has skeletal staffing ran by casual and agency staff- it's a disaster. If you value your nursing license and career stay clear of the place.
Pros
None
Cons
Risk of losing your career, license

Great place to work!
I am a relatively new employee and my experience has far exceeded any expectations I had. The staff are both dedicated to each other and clients at the centre. The management team has offered ongoing support and guidance. I would without hesitation recommend working for the Care Group
Pros
Dedicated staff, welcoming environment, competitive wages, supportive management
Cons
Large organization so it takes time to get to know all of the programs offered

Hogarth Riverview Manor- Unsafe work environment
A typical day at work for registered nursing staff: Notifying management of compliance issues; management not acknowledging issues exist or have the knowledge/experience to recognize they are issues; compliance then coming in and issuing orders that management were already notified of; and then registered nursing staff receiving memos that staff should have addressed issues. This ongoing cycle is frustrating because it allows management to never take accountability for delivery of nursing care.

Absolutely no follow-up or acknowledgement of concerns from staff by management. Human resources not recognizing that management is the reason this building is failing to care for residents properly.

No front line clinical educator available to do 1:1 skills training/mentoring. Staff will email managers and education department for weeks asking for clinical education with no response or limited effort to provide to staff.

If you need a job, this facility will hire anyone without investigating if they have a nursing license or basic nursing competency to work. Very frustrating for hard-working experienced registered staff who continually report to management concerns regarding incompetent registered staff (as a duty to their own license) and management not addressing the safety and welfare of vulnerable elderly clients by allowing registered staff to continue to supervise care provided to clients or not provide timely essential medical treatment to clients.

The hardest part of the job: The stress of the dangerous unsafe position you are forced into when being on shift with

A typical day at work is long hours with no breaks due to the facility running on severe staff shortages. You are not provided competent education on site which places staff and residents at risk. You must be experienced and have excellent clinical and assessment skills, as there is no support for new hires. There is a high turnover of management, very young and inexperienced with long-term care; not only lacking the skills and education to support staff, but have no real desire to do so. The employees are very hard-working, however frustrated with low morale, which leads to many walking of the job, and bullying. There is insidious racism toward indigenous and visible minority employees. The hardest part of the job is going home knowing that residents are not cared for properly. The most enjoyable part of the job is caring for the residents if you like working with the elderly. DO NOT WORK HERE.
Pros
Flexible shift hours
Cons
Poor management, low morale

Fast-paced Environment
The job as a Support Worker is very taxing. However, the co-workers are family, and you are treated as family. It is very fast-paced environment and have responsible that need to be done within a strict-time limit. St Joes Care Group could have some improvements, but not lacking.

I have learned to be very time-organized, and be respectful.
Pros
Welcoming
Cons
Long hours.

Never again.
Management is very rude, especially to unregistered staff. Pay is not even close to what PSW’s deserve. Workload is impossible. Continuity of care is pretty much non-existent, as staffing is constantly bumping people to other floors, even if they’ve never worked there before. Impossible to get approved for time off, because there’s no one to cover you. Work is never appreciated.
Pros
Benefits.
Cons
Always working short, Management is unsupportive, Lack of continuity of care, Pay is not what it should be.

under staffed, underpaid, however continuing to add more work for front line health care staff. No appreciation for staff just blame pointed to staff as this building has been a failure of a project from the organization. Staff morale is low because of all of this. Management pushes away concerns of staff. Residents are at risk here and if you are a registered staff member I would say most likely is your license - unless you want to fill out a workload grievance every shift don't start here. I have worked at several other sites at SJCG and HRM is the worst by a long shot - every other site is actually great. Every job has pros and cons but at this point as an employee the only reason I am here is to benefit the residents I know and enjoy (when I can talk to them for all of 2 minutes due to workload) and because I need a job to survive. I actually feel there is no pro to working here at all - as it mentally exhausts me and stresses me out, i leave feeling i have never done enough. I feel sorry for the people who live here. Staff do their best and are treated like dirt. This building in no doubt one of the biggest failures in Canadian Health Care History.

Exploitation of employe
SJCG is one of the racist organization. The HR department is very difficult to deal with. If you are interrested to get exploited this is the best place for you. Good luck!
Pros
Best place to learn.
Cons
Low wages with no explaination, racist HR department.
