Stressful
Educational Assistant (Current Employee) - All schools - 7 October 2023
It takes several years to get a permanent position. You can work many years, and gain zero seniority. There are violent children, and staff get hurt often.
Pros
Summer off
Cons
Violence

Love working for sccdsb. Wonderful staff perfect environment.
Adult Supervisor (Current Employee) - Chatham-Kent, ON - 30 April 2022
I would recommend this position be moved to permanent full time. It’s definitely a position that is needed to fill in daily activities and duties that may other wise not be filled by regular staff due to time or shortage. Such a wonderful environment to work in. Friendly staff, encouraging. Blessed to be a part of this school board.

Educational Assistant (Current Employee) - Wallaceburg, ON - 18 March 2022
Face paced, great staff, lots of hours available. Must be patient, as it can be stressful at times. Many resources available from co workers, teachers also are very helpful!

Insights into St. Clair Catholic District School Board
What people like
- Ability to learn new things
- Fair pay for job
- Clear sense of purpose
Full Timers Gang Up
Custodian (Former Employee) - Wallaceburg, ON - 3 March 2021
Full time custodians will always gang up on you and will be messaging the supervisor saying that you missed this or that although this won't be true, its very unfortunate how the work culture is there. HR is Great, Supervisors are fair but the coworkers play lots of sneaky games which create an uncomfortable culture
Pros
Unionized
Cons
Long drives for short hours, back stabing culture

Great place to work! Good Management HR to current employees!
School Custodian (Current Employee) - Chatham-Kent, ON - 6 November 2020
Only been employed for short time so far.. but I can say that I have been treated with the ut-most respect and patience. I have been helped to succeed in the role of Custodian by all levels of management and awesome current employees. The downside to this job is that you have to be patient in order to get a job that may be convenient as far as location and hours for your own home life... given time, may be possible. Seems to be a lot of opportunity to post for jobs at this point.
Pros
Able to post for jobs that fit your home life
Cons
Might have to drive long distance to work for short shifts.

Fun working atmosphere
Occasional Teacher (Current Employee) - Chatham-Kent, ON - 14 November 2017
As an Occassional Teacher for this board I have learned quite a lot on a daily basis. I was welcomes by the majority of staff members at a variety of schools. It is hard as a daily supply as you do not know where you will be on a day to day basis. I have encountered a lot of amazing students with this school board and have enjoyed enriching the lives of these students on a daily basis.
Pros
friendly staff
Cons
cannot be prebooked, never know where you will be teaching on a daily basis

Work your way up
Casual Custodian (Current Employee) - Chatham-Kent, ON - 19 April 2017
Great place to work. Environment is very pleasant. On a typical day you are cleaning classrooms after school its nice and quiet easy to work in. Every school is different so makes it interesting.

Occasional Teacher (Current Employee) - Chatham-Kent, ON - 18 April 2017
every day a new adventure
I learned to be flexible
every school is different depending on the principal
most are friendly and enjoyable
working with grade 8 who are sometimes unwilling to learn for a "supply" teacher
watching a child attain a new concept

Workplace is Toxic
Casual Custodian (Former Employee) - Wallaceburg, ON - 25 September 2016
Not a workplace that is very happy or caring about its workers. It is not a good place to work, I have seen many people come and go, very high turnover rate.

Ok place to work with no chance of advancement
Casual Custodian (Former Employee) - Wallaceburg, ON - 30 July 2016
No chance of advancement and employees are treated very badly and used and tossed away when not required. No management ethics and they lack a management style, cut ,cut ,cut the hours expecting the same level of work to be done, not going to happen. The schools look dirty and staff are unhappy and demoralized.
Don't go here, unless you want to be bullied and harassed and not protected or treated properly, here you are used and then thrown away. It is all about the dollar here and how people who are doing this can make themselves better at the expense of their employees.
Pros
Leaving
Cons
Everything

Productive workplace. (It is at a school)
Adult Supervisor (Current Employee) - Chatham, ON - 23 October 2013
I am backup for lunch monitors. I don't get many hours, if any at all. (As I am only needed when another supervisor is ill.) Overall, it is a wonderful environment, and I do enjoy it. Not enough hours, per month.
Pros
Working with children.
Cons
Not enough hours.

Excellent run school board with all employees putting the kids first.
Trustee (Current Employee) - Wallaceburg, ON - 10 May 2012
Typically I attend meetings every other Tuesday. As a trustee we make decisions on how the School Board operates. The management here is great and my fellow trustees are an excellent set of people to work with. It's very hard making decisions on things like cutting programming and school closures. But we do it for the good of the kids.
