Please reconsider
A very horrible company to work with. Mass layoffs, poorly trained staff outsourced from employment centres, horrible management, poor coordination, missing hours, safety is not the priority, willing to bend rules, dangerous and unkempt vehicles, anything horrible you name it. AVOID AT ALL COST

Terrible place to work, avoid at all costs
Spectrum is absolutely the worst company I have ever worked for. They consistently abuse employees through forced overtime and making them use unsafe and damaged equipment and vehicles. Management, as well as dispatchers, will use threats and intimidation tactics to force you to do things that are not only against the collective bargaining agreement but are also illegal and dangerous to both the employees and patients. The company sees you as expendable and does not care about you at all. If you are a female, you should fully expect to be sexually harassed by management and the shop mechanic. Reporting this does absolutely nothing and in fact, will make the situation worse. The entire organization is focused on protecting the abusers and cares nothing about the people being abused. All employees should be prepared to be insulted and offended every time they come in for a shift. The union does absolutely nothing to protect you, ever. To say that this company is full of incompetence would be an understatement. The few good employees that they hire quickly realize the deplorable working conditions and subsequently find alternate employment. Despite numerous management changes and employees being shuffled around the problems continue and seem to get worse with each passing day. Avoid Spectrum, in all of its divisions, at all costs. This place will only leave you feeling broken and defeated. The pay is horrible and quite honestly insulting considering what they expect of you. You also won’t be paid accordingly, you have to watch your paycheques extremely carefully. When you catch - more...

Average place to work
If u are in the paramedic program and fire fighting program, this is the place you need to be .You will get valuable experience and training toward your career. If you are retired or you just need a job, this might be ideal for you too. Hours are not flexible, you will get shift changes regularly. Uniform and protective gears are provided. Seniors staff gets all the props!
Try not to get involved with the company politics, or else you won't get too far .Go to work on time, do your job and go home.

Salary is not great, but you get benefits after few 100 hours of work..Overtime pay is a plus if you can kill the hours.

You will work weekends and nights sometimes.

What can I say
Well what can I say. When I first started at the company and home base was an enjoyable place to be. Work was fair and employees were positive and fun to be around. Then employees started to leave and that's when the true colours emerged. The only work life balance this place provides is if you are part-time(by being part-time you had the opportunity to chose the days that you were available). The so called "competitive" salary is no different than if you were to go work at other establishments. When communicating with dispatch, its their way or no way, Presenting any ideas of your own( either it being a way to help organise calls for efficiency or trouble shooting) will be shot down. Or will have dispatch sound like they are agreeing to only call someone else to have everything reversed and back to the non-efficient way. Favours are very very rarely paid back. Dispatch will get themselves into trouble to ask for help and continue to take advantage of the kindness. They will also try to bully more of the new employees to exert dominance.

Management......... basically the only way to put it, is if you are anything but a "yes man" then you are automatically on their list of employees to be re-vamped. They will do what they can to have full control and virtually look for any specific reason for termination. There has been a lot of termination requests that came from a previous operation manager that would definitely go against workers rights and labour laws. This does include and would not be limited to false incident reports written by the regional manager.

Stay Away
Keep away. This company allows the dispatcher to abuse the MTA and blame MTA for everything. Management is a complete Joke. Different strokes for different folks. They play favouritism. Ambulances keep breaking down because of poor service lies.

Not Bad
Not a bad place to work. Everyone is friendly and family-like. Although if you are a dispatcher, times can be very stressful. And the CSRs get verbally abused by psychotic nurses at hospitals.

Decent Place to Work
This company was a decent place to work for, the vehicles were decently maintained. scheduling was easy to figure out, dispatching was unorganized and the amalgamation of the companies that were bought out was pretty rough in the transition.

Not what it used to be
Poor management, broken equipment and now adays low staff. This place used to be great but its all in who your partners are. Union is pro company not pro employee, pay is low for literally having strangers lives in your hands. Zero room for advancement unless you kiss up hard. Staff are not appreciated by management and any suggestions made are just shrugged off and you are constantly reminded that your the help nothing more. Do yourself a fabour and go work in a factory

The management staff try as much as they can to make every staff happy
The company create some activities that are off the job to make people relax. This include sponsoring some staff to watch sport games. Some activities are also performed in the office which include eating lunch together in the office.

Get new management and maybe could be a workplace.
I used to love working there and then it was like fireworks going off in the 1st year I saw over 45 people just fired- walked off the floor - no quietness about it. Everyone knew the day someone was being let go and everyone is on edge wondering if it would be them,

Stay away
No breaks on 12+ hour shifts. No accountability from management for anything; they’ll play favorites and blame it on lower level employees. No training; they’ll throw you right onto dispatch and get upset if you do anything wrong. No overnight premium for night shifts. No reviews on performance or any coaching; they will just write you up and expect you to figure out what to do to on your own. The hourly pay rate is low for this line of work; do yourself a favor and get a job (literally) anywhere else.

I love working with Spectrum patient services.
Working with spectrum Patient services has exposed me to hands on human service in that I come in contact with people of different works of life and race but the common denominator is their health. How you care for people who are entrusted to you and their confidence knowing that you’re committed to doing your best to ensure their safety is what spectrum patient services has given to me and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
