Ignore the negatives - give us a try

Lovely clean sites, a pleasure to work in. I started my career with this company at another site and it wasn't until I got to my current site, that I really felt welcomed and truly part of a team. We're not just colleagues, we're a team that are friends who work hard to make a patient's experience, a positive one. I feel my pay is fair, yes we'd all like a little more, but you are given plenty of opportunities to advance and pay is reviewed regularly. Twice yearly bonuses make you feel appreciated as well as all the competitions and monetary awards given in recognition of outstanding performance. I've not had to raise any concerns so do not have any comments to make in how they are handled. What I do know is that if something did arise, it will be dealt with professionally by our upper management. Personally, the flexibility shown to me in terms of shifts or time off, has really been outstanding. It has allowed me to maintain a good balance between work and home commitments.

Responsive employer

Good terms of service, well treated. Excellent training programme. Supportive teams and managers. Limited career progression for nurses but that was being addressed by introduction of leas nurse role.

A good place to work

Lots to learn and a lot of space to grow if you’re willing to put the work in. There are new opportunities coming all the time so for those interested in ophthalmics it’s a great place to work

Very poor communication from higher management. No career progression. Poor pension and sick pay

RGN- I only worked for this company for a short while and that was enough. No real progression as a nurse, the role was very mundane and to be honest, they didn’t really need a trained nurse for the job.I had a nice team of nurses but even they didn’t have a lot of positive comments about the company,If you want to specialise in ophthalmic care, yes, give it a go but it’s not a very exciting role and I couldn’t see any real career development apart from going into theatre which didn’t interest me.Our clinic wasn’t up and running so spent a lot of time sitting around doing nothing. Promised patients, but contracts never materialised. I left as I was tired of being told we would see patients very soon and I also knew the job would be become very monotonous.

Pros

No nights

Cons

Poor sick pay, poor pension and no career development

Fast paced and fun workplace

I’ve very much enjoyed my time working for the company. There’s lots of informative training that does include travelling to other sites, which I find enjoyable.

Fast paced enjoyable

I'm enjoying learning everything and meeting new people. I've travelled to different sites for training and feel this has helped me learn different ways to work in the work place bit, to still get the same outcome.

Best Career Move

I heard about SpaMedica through an ex colleague that already works there. It’s the best decision I have ever made changing jobs. My whole career has been in healthcare and I can honestly say they care about their patients. You have to work hard as it’s fast paced but putting in the time and effort you get recognised and rewarded. The support from the number of departments is so comforting and everyone is so lovely. I came from private healthcare before and adding that extra job security really makes you feel reassured. I love my job and all my team around me, definitely get that family feel.

spamedica

I have enjoyed my time at SpaMedica, the team are great to work with and team work is amazing. The manager is approachable friendly and happy to help with anything, it really is like having a second family. We always get great patient feed back and we always have such a good rapport with patients. There are lots of opportunities to go further in the role should you wish to do so. Training is always good and always effective. We do post and pre op clinics and theater is on most days. I love each role I do and cant wait to progress further in my career. Even if we are ever short staffed which at times is inevitable we pull together as a team. We get quarterly treat days and a company and personal bonus every year after you have passed your six month probation.

Great Place to work

I have been at spa medica for nearly 12months and I am very happy that I've decided to take the plunge and move to spa medica. My manager is very supportive always there for us. There is opportunity to progress in your career if you desire. Wages are good and there is opportunity to get higher pay as you get experience.

Management needs addressing.

I essentially left after being spoken to with a complete lack of respect by management. This clinic has wonderful staff who are a pleasure to work with but as many others before me have voiced, it is ruined by the lack of people skills from the manager. I enjoyed my short time here, such a shame I felt it had to end die to the very person who should be supporting their staff members.

Job satisfaction

I have worked for SpaMedica for a year, my role as a Patient Coordinator is very rewarding, with excellent opportunities to progress and travel to other sites. My role gives me great job satisfaction on a daily basis, with the difference we make to our patients lives.I recommend anyone looking for clinical or an administration role to seriously consider a career with SpaMedica.

productive and settled in well

Starting in the middle of a pandemic wasn't easy but the whole recruitment process was done without any flaws and within days i was informed of being successful. From then on its been a breeze, trained, fully informed on all aspects of company and specific work requirements. Great team also!pay rise also after 6 months!! :)

Pros

easy progression

Cons

short dinners and no breaks

Would not recommend anyone to work here.

Worked here for around 2 years and I can safely say its not what you know its who you know. One rule for one and one for the other. People who where well known to the managers got the promotions and the progression. You could take on more than what your actual job role involved and you don't get paid for it or any sort of reward and recognition.

Pros

The 30 minute lunch break.

Cons

Poor management. Poor communication. Poor salary - bottom end of NHS bandings.

Amateurish attitude and bullying workplace culture

Worked here for 3+ years at Bolton HQ and can honestly state it was the longest 3 years of my professional working career. A full new Exec Team being drafted in during the 12-18 months i was there with little or no healthcare experience has really shown a light into the operational aspects of the organisation. It produced a sales management style to all aspects of the workplace, referrals, admin, informatics/coding, call centre, it was a strategy bought in by hard hitting commercially minded directors. Senior Management (Heads of dept) are only interested in the shoe licking to directors and offer little or no support to the ground staff. Its an environment that has grown to be further depressing day by day. With the focus on each hospital running 'independently', it has a strong sense of being true partners to the NHS and offering excellent clinical outcomes, which of course is all about ensuring we pick up the most of work (referrals) and contracts.ProsA partner to NHS Good clinical outcomes for cataract surgeryConsPay is NOT in line with NHS organisations as advertisedPension available is the bare minimum and pitifulSick pay is disgusting, 0 weeks in first 12 months, 1 week after 1 yearno true training or employee support package (barely receive appraisals or PDRs)HQ does not have parking facilities for staffManagement are unsupportive and extremely rude

Pros

Staff are friendly and easy going

Cons

Pay is not in line with other healthcare organisations, terrible holiday allowance
