needs restructuring
Manager (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 23 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhile the majority of people are great, the biggest issue is that there's not enough ppl working at the head office. If one person at the office calls in sick, the support at the store level is zero.

Growing Business
Manager (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 4 December 2023
SNDL is really on a great path to growth. It is a tough industry but I believe in what the leadership is doing in terms of the execution of our strategy.

Overworked and Underpaid
Store Manager (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 21 November 2023
The compensation given for the amount of work expected from Store level employees is nowhere near on par with competitors. You're expected to give everything you have to make sure the store succeeds but are not appreciated for it.

Decent place to work compensation is not up to par with competitors.
HR (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 25 October 2023
Great place to learn where you want to take your career. Not a place to stay if you want to progress and be compensated for that progress. I'd recommend for someone just starting thier carrer to get some experience before moving on to somthing better.
Pros
Friendly coworkers, free lunches
Cons
Lack of self awareness from head management, low comp grades.

Upper management understaffed, you are basically on your own but ridiculed for small mistakes
Store Manager (Current Employee) - Alberta - 22 October 2023
Coming from previous SM jobs I found this one tough, there is little to no training as a Store Manager and I can’t even get a response to questions/emails half the time. Every time I think I am figuring things out, an area manager, district manager, or the CEO’s will come in and give 0 positive feedback yet bombard the store with things we are doing wrong, and hold a grudge about it. There is no streamline for information/tasks. If you do get hired, you might be waiting 2-3 weeks for backend to be complete before you can start your first day (so don’t quit your job yet or give 3 weeks notice). To be fair, some area managers are quite kind, but they are so overworked and short staffed that there is 0 accountability, every store has a different process for everything, and you are thrown into the depths on your own to sink or swim. It usually takes me 2-3 months to get in the groove of managing a new store, but even after 6 months I am still finding things out along the way because of lack of training.

Pay is hit or miss
Customer Service (Former Employee) - Stony Plain, AB - 20 October 2023
Working for this company is like working for a bunch of stoners. Disorganized, and full of excuses. For the last month I have been under paid by over $1000 now and now fix insight. I'm looking for a new job now, but waiting to see if they will pay me my back pay. 0/10 recommended. A company shouldn't mess around with pay.
Pros
Discount on weed
Cons
Not paid

Environmental Service Worker (Former Employee) - Olds, AB - 19 October 2023
They shutting down now anyway, but terrible place to work, no raises ever, management was childish, would hold a grudge over tiny mistakes, stressful environment.
Pros
Decent benefits
Cons
Soul crushing management

Store level is Great but Upper Management is a Nightmare
Key Holder/Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 17 October 2023
For the most part the job is fine. On a store level it's fantastic team is great managers care about you but the directors and area managers only job it seems is to make your life and job harder. They come in once in a blue moon and make everyone feel like they are under attack. They only care about themselves and if they don't like you don't ever expect to advance.
Pros
Store level culture is great, opportunities to learn
Cons
Over work under paid, upper management is toxic

Work for sndl at your own risk, High risk and little to no reward.
Keyholder (Current Employee) - Spruce Grove, AB - 15 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing. Thank goodness for a paycheck but they pay me whatever they want rather than the hours i work so really i volunteer to be there and get paid whatever works for them What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Working 80 hr weeks and not getting overtime or correct pay for that week. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Stressful. Strong team in store but extremely poor upper management. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Picking up extra time to do things paperwork and stocking from nights before. Customer service and the constant worry of being paid for each shift worked

Jobs at SNDL
Compensation is below standard
Clerk (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 24 September 2023
Low pay., very toxic work environment. Management doesn’t have a clue what they are doing. Little to no communication. Only good thing about this place was the liquor discount.

don't waste your time
Production Worker (Former Employee) - Kelowna, BC - 31 August 2023
great coworkers. some management was awesome. change in ownership created chaos. Pidgeon-holed into what became an unsuitable position. let go within two days of three-month timeline for a nebulous non-reason.
Pros
great co-workers
Cons
too many changes to processes by incompetent people.

Interesting Place to Work
Executive Assistant (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 31 August 2023
Interesting content about the job (liquor and cannabis are vast and rich topics), and lots of collaboration. With org changes the structure is a bit rocky but will find solid ground soon.

Don't Waste your time
Analyst (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 5 July 2023
Planned out career with this company in a field that I was told would be job protected but wasn't. Management was alright but communication was horrible.

Stressful
N/A (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 4 July 2023
Zero job security, lack of organization, reduced benefits, no wage increases, constant layoffs to name a few. The frontline people tho are some of the best.

SNDL management are slick snake oil salesmen
Groundskeeper/Maintenance (Former Employee) - Atholville, NB - 23 June 2023
They will promise you gold and give you clay. The management will embrace you in onset but quickly you will see an abrupt change in attitude and they distance themselves in all aspects of Day to Day communication. You will not get support as everybody is worried about saving there own jobs. Gaslighting employees is the methodology they use to manage. Terrible ethics
Pros
Free parking
Cons
Zero Job Security, Untruthful Management, Zero support

struggling company, absorbing cannabis operators that are failing
corporate services (Former Employee) - Toronto - 15 May 2023
dead end, struggling and still laying off employees. pay ok, benefits minimal and you will pay a lot for them, do not count on bonus, pick a sector with a real future

Organizational Structure is mismanaged.
Processing Technician (Former Employee) - Olds, AB - 3 May 2023
Good pay, but not the benefits. The management section is erratic with its purpose, not goal-driven, and can be power trippers sometime. It is sad that it started with a bang and bright vision, but failed in many aspects in the end. They are still currently lay-offing people the last time I heard.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Toxic and conceited people

Absolute waste of time
Fertigation specialist (Former Employee) - Olds, AB - 3 May 2023
Save yourself the trouble and get into a field of work that has job security (not cannabis). Management will do its best to stonewall and manipulate any employee with opposing views or opinions. The director of cultivation is a con artist who has never actually gained experience in either cannabis production or management.
Pros
Local
Cons
Will lead to unemployment

Pros
You get a pay check
Cons
Literally everything
