Management does not understand corporate strategy nor follows corporate values.

CEO has made managerial decisions that are not consistent with his style or values.

Where Technology Pros Go To Die
Software Developer (Former Employee) –  Tempe, AZ30 March 2019
Silicon Valley Bank has a better than average compensation structure, but that's where the good ends.

You might enjoy SVB if:
* You love kissing butt and have no desire to advance through sound technical practices, or
* You enjoy being blamed for the consequences of management's self-serving, short-sighted behaviors in their quest to be promoted at all costs, or
* You have no self-esteem, no life, no friends, and no desire to do anything but work at all hours on all days working futilely to try to fix what you will never be allowed by management to fix as they pile on more tech debt from their endless self-serving "ideas" that are nothing but attempts to get promoted on your back.
Pros
Better than average compensation
Cons
Selfish incompetent bullying management starting at the top, Politics is more valued than quality, Constantly cutting corners to serve the ambitions of managers wanting to be promoted

great culture
anonymous (Current Employee) –  Tempe, AZ28 March 2019
I enjoy working at SVB. Great culture, fun group of people. Many changes within the company, can be stressful. Executives push hard. No micro managing, need to be flexible and roll with change.
Pros
fun environment, great culture, excellent pay
Cons
many changes within organization, executives push hard, you are either 'in the circle' or you are 'out'.

Top management is awesome it is the middle managers that needs focus on since they play an important role in the organization, they play favoritism and favor others who really perform well.

Great exposure to tech and innovation
Vice President (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, CA3 March 2019
● People are nice and relatively friendly compared to most tech companies.
● The market leadership provides a stable work environment.
● Sales team members know a lot about the tech and innovation industry.
● The internal tools are a little outdated compared to most tech companies, but likely on par compared to most banks.
● Management is competent but perhaps a bit comfortable.
● Workers are given quite a bit of autonomy but must self direct learning.

Job Culture
the lesser of the evils
Senior Operations Specialist (Former Employee) –  Tempe, AZ27 February 2019
While the paid time off and benefits are second to none, the organization is essentially a good ole boys club. Hiring and advancement is contingent upon whether you were in the same frat house as your colleagues or whether you are besties with your boss. Skills and hard work are neither appreciated nor considered as grounds for advancement or accolades. Although they attempt to portray that they are a different organization, one that actually cares, they are every bit as much of a corporate monster as any other. They are just as filled with favoritism, egotism, and nepotism as the worst corporate beast you have encountered. If you manage to get an interview or get hired (again, only if you happen to be friends with the hiring manager), just be sure to know what you are going into. They are not different. They are not better. They are simply the lesser of the evils.
Pros
lots of paid time off, great benefits
Cons
favoritism and egocentric ideals are rampant

Modern workplace that invests in their people
Sr. Operations Specialist (Current Employee) –  Tempe, AZ25 January 2019
I have been working as a Sr. Operations Specialist for SVB in Tempe, AZ for a few months now. Overall, I am very impressed and happy with the company and my decision to work here. The hours are typical for my department, M-F, 8-5 with some opportunity for OT. There are some system issues that can make the job harder than it should be, but nothing that is seemingly impossible. SVB is a rapidly growing company and I suspect progress and system updates will come over time. They invest in their people and truly care about employee satisfaction. They provide gatherings, meals, collaborative meetings across all office locations, and are great to the employees. They are very conscious of the "little things" that can truly make or break a work day. The salary is fair, I wish it were a bit higher for the area but it's not bad for starting. The PTO is amazing, as well as the usual benefits (healthcare, dental, vision, 401k). I would highly recommend the company to others looking to work in finance. SVB is not like other banks (I have previously worked in retail banking, this is 100x better).
Pros
Paid time off, work environment, employee experience
Cons
Systems are outdated, pay is not super competitive for the location cost

A sales-driven organization
DIRECTOR (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CA24 November 2018
Knows their clients and the start up industry well. Not a data-driven organization. About 5-years behind most financial institutions in technology, systems, processes, and people. It banks technology, life-science, clean energy, and the wine companies.
Pros
Pay and benefits are competitive
Cons
Highly political environment

a great place to work that provides stability and flexibility
FRAUD OPERATIONS ANALYST (FIU) (Current Employee) –  Tempe, AZ26 October 2018
workplace culture is a factor that drives a lot of employees to the company. The culture, however, has changed a lot over the year due to new management. overall the the bank has multiple opportunities within. The systems are outdated and are working to be updated however, budget continues to be a factor brought on by management.
Pros
paid time off, gym, tuition reimbursement, work from home

Silicon Valley Bank - A Bank where customers are no longer a person, they’re just a number
Sr. Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  San Francisco Bay Area, CA10 October 2018
Silicon Valley Bank used to to the most amazing place to work but due to very poor management, there are a lot better places to work out there. Silicon Valley Bank used to be the bank where clients raved about the high quality service they received but now, customers are just a number.
Pros
Great Benefits
