Raises has to take place from a "win win" point of view. If an employee views he/she deserves a raise after an year completion, while, the company is struggling to sustain its advantage in the market place, then it is only one way. However, if the workforce has the mindset thinking "We all get raise by making our company succeed" then it is a win win view.
