Worked here for 10+ years. The work environment is toxic. Your word means nothing. Your suggestions to improve the place will not be heard. Management has their picking order, where skill is over looked. Management will only promote their friends.. too much management personnel that are never on the floor demanding metal to be ran a certain way when the equipment isn’t able to perform to their expectations. Pay is sub par. Cost of living goes up and our wages stay the same. Every union contract is made to suit the mechanics instead of the whole workforce as we are in the same union
Everything else about the company
Just a downright terrible place to work. Senior workers look down on new workers.....alway call them tier two newbie. If you like to be yelled at this is the place. Supervisors play favourites. 12 hr shifts and the weakest union I have ever seen. Hope to be done here soon.
Union looks after senior staff and don’t give 2 f***s about new workers.
I have been working at SAC for many years and have seen it though its many changes. I can say that it has been an overall great place to work. With any organization there are its challenges but at the end of the day the company is employee focused and will support its employees work and life balance. This is highlighted in the company's response to the recent pandemic. This is a 24/7/365 aluminum manufacturing business and with that comes additional challenges (longer hours, fast paced and during the summer is a hot environment on the production floor) but if you are up to it and enjoy a challenge then this is the place to set roots.
Great co-workers, family culture, new challenges each day
Management is not transparent in relaying information to staff. Everything is a big secret and then once presented to staff, management wonders why systems and procedures don't work. I was very frustrated with amount of work expected to be done, while others in the department stood around chatting and not taking responsibility for work getting done.
Hostile environment where management & coworkers harass newcomers daily. This company has no respect for North America, and it also has no respect for Canadians. If you want to be called names and experience hostile management throwing good parts around then this place is for you! If you want to be treated with respect then avoid this Chinese company at all costs! For those that do choose to work for Signature Aluminum... enjoy the stomach cancer from what you will inhale. Your body will never adjust to doing day shifts, and midnight shifts in the same week every single week.
Long hours, heavy lifting Labour job. Very loud and physically demanding. Most people don't make it through the probation period, and very few make it longer than a year. The hours, swing continentals, wash most people out in short time. Decent pay, for unskilled labour.
Many of the colleagues were sociable and friendly. Shift schedule is tough since it is a rotating continental shift but that is the only stressful part of the job.
A typical day at signature aluminum, would be working in a warehouse for twelve hours, three or four days out of the week. Waking up at four AM in the morning to get to work for six AM, because our official work time would then begin at six-fifty AM. All day long we would make metal and package them, then we would put the bundles of metals we’ve packaged, put it in a oven for the rest of the night
Management needs to clean house, including their own department. The business is suffering because the work culture is extremely toxic; communication between departments is poor and there is a serious lack of organization in the workplace. Management is also neglectful and if you do not ask for the proper P.P.E it will not be given to you unless it's blatantly obvious you don't have it I've seen instances where it has even been denied (ear muffs in a very noisy environment). If you're desperate enough to take this job please be very careful or you will be injured. ( 2018)
Nobody cares about anything until something goes wrong
long hours, low starting wage worse if it's salaried
This is not a good industry to work for. They do not take care of their employees and you are overworked. Working overtime is required every day.. The more help you ask for the more work they give you.
