Shoppers is definitely a great employer if you’re looking for flexibility and a great team of coworkers. You get to build on skills in different departments to find your niche.

Good team, not good management
Cashier (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 14 November 2023
All good workers, lots of support and opportunities for growth. I learned a lot about the industry but did not feel very much guidance from my management.

Bad leaders that are friends with each other
Manager (Former Employee) - North York, ON - 7 November 2023
Many ppl in the business are friends promoting each other to move up without allowing much growth for new employees. Many folks are great and fun to work with but sadly leadership is awful without much vision for growth.

Overall it's good, employees are accommodating towards schedules and availibility
Beauty Specialist (Current Employee) - kamloops, bc - 5 November 2023
*working the morning/day shift is better than nights as the nights are slow and quiet, so you don't get to interact/ help many customers. * I learnt about cosmetics (makeup and skin care), retail, and customer service. * management overall is pretty good, very flexible when you need time off or are unavailable due to school/other life things *most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know/train new employees.
Pros
flexible hours, helpful coworkers
Cons
open late (10 pm) and after 8:30 ish it dies down, lots of sketchy people at night and hard to be at work until. 10pm if you're a student

High demand and stressful job
Cosmetic Manager (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 3 November 2023
Working at Shoppers Drug Mart has been an incredibly challenging experience, and I regret to say that it falls far short of being a satisfying job.The work-life balance is almost non-existent, and the relentless demands to meet targets are nothing short of overwhelming. The compensation offered is disheartening, considering the immense effort required to keep up with the job's demands. Although the management at my store is commendable, it's the only silver lining in an otherwise gloomy picture. While I generally enjoy working with most of the staff, the level of support you receive is inconsistent, largely dependent on the whims of the owner or store manager. The job itself is nothing short of all-consuming. You're expected to wear numerous hats, including team management, merchandise handling, sales, social media marketing, event planning, cosmetician recruitment, customer service, and more. You must also be prepared to assist customers with self-checkout and ring up carts of front store products since supervisors and cashiers often get pulled away. The high-pressure environment is mentally tormenting, and the physical toll is draining. With limited breaks to complete your daily tasks as a cosmetician manager, the job becomes increasingly taxing. And the challenge of hiring suitable team members for the cosmetics department is another stressor, as the results can vary greatly. Some hires are a true asset, while others disappoint by calling in sick, failing to meet targets, or neglecting their responsibilities. In summary, while there are occasional glimpses of positivity, -

Cashier (Former Employee) - Cowansville, QC - 2 November 2023
It’s ok to work here, better off somewhere else with potential opportunities for growth. It’s not easy moving up. Stagnant job. Flexible hours, easy job, low stress

Awful place to work
Merchandiser (Current Employee) - Nova Scotia - 28 October 2023
Next to no life work balance. Always short staffed because they’re ‘cutting hours’ so deadlines for stock completion is never met, yet employees are blamed for this

Clerk (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 23 October 2023
Really depends on the manager that you have to get a better grasp of the work environment. it's a very relaxed job with low stress, I'd recommend it. Not much room for career advancements.

Toxic
Pharmacy Assistant (Former Employee) - Oakville, ON - 20 October 2023
Awful place to work in. Management puts unrealistic targets to meet and doesn’t care about you at all. No good work life balance. They only care about themselves

Not at All good or productive.
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 19 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? There is no best part, it was all bad. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Bosses who do not listen and get mixed up about things happening in your personal life, and they would use it against you and get the other bosses confused. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Quick paced . Which is the only good part of working for them. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Busy , sometimes quick , but mostly bad considering who and what we'd put up with from our bosses and their suck-up cronies.

Front Store Manager (Former Employee) - Abbotsford, BC - 17 October 2023
Good company with excellent benefits, and good support system for managers, but associate owners can be hit and miss, some are fantastic, others less so…

Diverse culture and politeness What is a typical day like for you at the company? Sometimes is very busy and stressful, and sometimes quite slow and relaxed, doing different duties, like facing checking what is left on the task list for the day.

Productive workplace
Cashier (Former Employee) - Ontario - 12 October 2023
There are so many things to learn but if you succeed the owner genuinely cares about your career succession. Teammates were always helpful and management was great at hearing concerns.

It's a job but a waste of energy
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Lower Mount Royal, AB - 10 October 2023
Toxic work environment and no room for growth. Lots of gossip and inter office politics. The front store manager and associate owner have a mean girls vibe.
