Good staff
Cosmetician (Former Employee) - Kelowna, BC - 30 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI really enjoyed all the training and courses provided to the cosmetics department, however I think hiring management needs improvement. It seems a lot of the time they’re too invested in what you do in your free time and your personal life, and they can be quite intimidating.

Fun workplace
Cashier (Former Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 28 November 2023
Was a great environment to work. Most days booked off were approved as a part time employee. Management was good and very understanding. Hours weren’t terrible

Jobs at Shoppers Drug Mart
Work culture and bias
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Vaughan, ON - 26 November 2023
There is a work culture bias and disrespectful. Instead of talking about how to improve, top managers point and finger others in front of others. Top managers never follow managements systems, they create micromanagement and gossip. There is no confidential information kept into company. Top managers shared confidential information with other including salary, marriage status, personal information and address.
Pros
Break time
Cons
Heavy lifting

Could have been a great place to work because of accessibility but not great management
Customer Service (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 23 November 2023
What is the best part of working at the company?Used to have great Management when it first opened with excellent customer service and high Optimum Sign ups. But everything changed when store manager transferred and was left to inexperience manager. Sad it could have been a great store in that location near Canada line What is the most stressful part about working at the company? No strong leadership and no proper training to new hires after new manager took over . Poor scheduling of people especially receiving stocks / replenishment on floor. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Stressful ,fast paced and loss prevention nightmare because its near Train line What is a typical day like for you at the company? I wont mention since i dont work there anymore.

Workplace Bullying at Its Finest.
Merchandiser (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 22 November 2023
The assistant manager got the entire store to gang up on me for no reason and nobody does anything about it. Management never takes issues seriously and only cares about store results and not their employees' well-being.

As a company SDM is conscientious on process improvement that free up time for pharmacist to perform more patient care duties
Pharmacist (Former Employee) - Alberta - 16 November 2023
Workload can be much but the chain invest heavily on smart processes/automation to free up time for pharmacist to provide more patient care. So far amongst pharmacy chain they are still the leader and most conscientious in this regard.

Good team, not good management
Cashier (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 14 November 2023
All good workers, lots of support and opportunities for growth. I learned a lot about the industry but did not feel very much guidance from my management.

Ok for a young person
Cosmetician (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 12 November 2023
Decent enough place to work for a young individual. Some management can be a bit toxic due to power struggles. Hard not having much input on your schedule.

Fun place to work
Post office clerk (Former Employee) - Spruce Grove, alberta - 11 November 2023
Knowledgeable management, good training program for any department you want to work in. Other departments help you out when busy. Lots of staff interaction.

Decent place to work
Supervisor (Former Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 9 November 2023
This store was in a very high traffic area so you will see a lot of business most of the time. It is well run and managed for the most part but there is an incredibly high turnover rate within the staff

Some associates are wonderful but others are the opposite.
Pharmacist (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 8 November 2023
Corporate policy seems to be intent on squeezing every last ounce of energy out of the employees to feed their bottom line. A good associate will help blunt the trauma but will suffer the consequences ... head office rewards the ones that impose excessive demands on the employees. There is too much pressure and too little time to do a good job of looking after our patients.
Pros
Coworkers are often pleasant.
Cons
Pharmacists often forgo meals, or only take occasional bites.

Bad leaders that are friends with each other
Manager (Former Employee) - North York, ON - 7 November 2023
Many ppl in the business are friends promoting each other to move up without allowing much growth for new employees. Many folks are great and fun to work with but sadly leadership is awful without much vision for growth.

Great staff to work with, bad management
Cashier/Customer Service (Current Employee) - Regina, SK - 6 November 2023
The great staff is the only good part to this job. Understaffed most of the time, tasks not being given out correctly resulting in conflict, asking too much of employees without any compensation or barely any recognition for hard work. The “higher ups” are also hard to deal with. Most staff not wanting to go to them with issues as they will be not listened to, be ignored or be spoken with like they’re stupid & in a rude manner.

Nice people, overall good experience
Cashier (Former Employee) - Richmond, BC - 5 November 2023
Colleagues were nice and friendly, customers were fun to talk with sometimes. Management was good too. The pay is just not enough for me to go all out in this position.

Overall it's good, employees are accommodating towards schedules and availibility
Beauty Specialist (Current Employee) - kamloops, bc - 5 November 2023
*working the morning/day shift is better than nights as the nights are slow and quiet, so you don't get to interact/ help many customers. * I learnt about cosmetics (makeup and skin care), retail, and customer service. * management overall is pretty good, very flexible when you need time off or are unavailable due to school/other life things*most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know/train new employees.
Pros
flexible hours, helpful coworkers
Cons
open late (10 pm) and after 8:30 ish it dies down, lots of sketchy people at night and hard to be at work until. 10pm if you're a student

High demand and stressful job
Cosmetic Manager (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 3 November 2023
Working at Shoppers Drug Mart has been an incredibly challenging experience, and I regret to say that it falls far short of being a satisfying job. The work-life balance is almost non-existent, and the relentless demands to meet targets are nothing short of overwhelming. The compensation offered is disheartening, considering the immense effort required to keep up with the job's demands.Although the management at my store is commendable, it's the only silver lining in an otherwise gloomy picture. While I generally enjoy working with most of the staff, the level of support you receive is inconsistent, largely dependent on the whims of the owner or store manager. The job itself is nothing short of all-consuming. You're expected to wear numerous hats, including team management, merchandise handling, sales, social media marketing, event planning, cosmetician recruitment, customer service, and more. You must also be prepared to assist customers with self-checkout and ring up carts of front store products since supervisors and cashiers often get pulled away. The high-pressure environment is mentally tormenting, and the physical toll is draining. With limited breaks to complete your daily tasks as a cosmetician manager, the job becomes increasingly taxing. And the challenge of hiring suitable team members for the cosmetics department is another stressor, as the results can vary greatly. Some hires are a true asset, while others disappoint by calling in sick, failing to meet targets, or neglecting their responsibilities. In summary, while there are occasional glimpses of positivity, -
