Good Place to Get Experience!

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I got my first job as a pharmacy assistant here after completing a volunteer co-op placement in highschool. The team and manager were excellent. They are always understanding of employees and very supportive! They offer a decent wage as well for young people.

Horrible experience

I was so excited to start my job over there But the older co workers they don’t teach the new people They always looked down to the new workers They don’t give a chance to learn something They are incredibly rude and always blame for everything

too many tasks, without enough support

you are required to do multiple tasks within a very limited time, but do not get enough support to complete them. Expectation is too high. depends on your owner though

Working as a pharmacy assistant is stressful

No one was prepared nor had the time to train me. I was given very serious, meticulous responsibilities my first shift and was not supervised which was shocking. The work environment is quite negative and toxic; staff complain about one another and the company, staff lack customer service skills, and you don’t feel supported or comfortable enough to ask for help. Also, my position kept changing from pharmacy assistant to receptionist to clinic administrative assistant and back again, and I was hired to be FT but a week in was made PT. I’d stay away from working at this pharmacy.

Pros

Got uniform quickly, paid on time, easy interview

Toxic

Awful place to work in. Management puts unrealistic targets to meet and doesn’t care about you at all. No good work life balance. They only care about themselves

Love the job not the company

I really don't think that loblaws/shoppers drug mart values their employees. They have also made it difficult to provide great customer service since we are expected to do so many more needless tasks to keep corporate happy.

Pros

Only pro is the great group of people I work with

Cons

Company keeps piling on more work and never compensates financially

Favouritism and not fairness towards all employees

Some staffs are very rude to work with. Stressful and demanding workplace Not appreciative management team, they will ignore your concern when bought up. They Deduct money off the payroll for the staff Christmas party

Pros

Sometimes we get free coffee

Cons

Not getting paid or appreciated for working longer

Depends on owner

Good place to work, really depends on owner as he/she is the one whom you will be dealing with but as expected from the corporate, they don't care about anyone except profit. Overall, not a bad place to work.

Understaffed and underpaid

Every single Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacy is always understaffed and underpaid. The customer service is absolutely horrible because of this, making it an extremely stressful and hectic environment. Would not recommend to anyone.

Stressful environment

The worst experience ever , the stress out there is unbearable. You will think about quitting every second with that minimum wage . The management were good but the loud of work was more than a human can bear .

Okay, low pay

Work really depends on the local associate and pharmacy managers. Some locations are good, others terrible and toxic. Pay overall is lower than independents. Most locations are fairly busy. Depending on the location, assistants role can vary. Most are focused on customer service, dispensing, and inventory management.

Good for starting a career in Canada

Instead of working in warehouse or cafe, it is a much better place to start professional journey in Canada. Growth opportunity is there but depends on several factors.

Stressful, a lot

Pros Nice people, keep busy, learn a lot, depends on the pharmacist a lot, can negotiate the salary Cons Stressful, some customers are rude or pharmacists

good

Good work environment, but long hours of standing. you don't always get shifts in a part time position but overall it's a good job for high school students and college students

Toxic, exploitative workplace

*stressful work, difficult clientele *learned lots about workings of pharmacy*very poor, uncaring management*toxic workplace culture (interpersonal conflict not resolved by conversation or management intervention)*little to no training performed by a peer (ineffectual and confusing)

Pros

Benefits, RRSP contribution, 30% staff discount

Cons

Often expected to work after scheduled shift without pay, bad management, little to no repercussions for poor employee behaviour
