Average place. Would recommend it if you're looking for a paycheck. Not much more to offer.

Indeed featured review

Very informal environment. If you're in the right department your manager will support you. Operations are very demanding and stressful to work for. Would recommend if you're looking for job stability and a paycheque.

Pros

Sometimes you get free lunches at the head office.

Cons

Chronic lack of career development, The management team has been the same for years, shuffling jobs. Not hiring what is required.

Toxic employer

This company does not care about the employees unless you are in the administrative section and management.Very tight budgeted, will do anything to save money off the backs off employees.A typical foreign company that only cares about making profits and not caring about employees at all!Would definitely not recommend!

it's Ok place to work

Stress day as soon as it opens. You learn a lot in a matter of weeks. BUT is it enough...NO. There's always something new. What you learn in training is totally different from what you encounter. Is it enough training....? No... CSR are the front core of the company. They provide support thru out the whole process in obtaining an adult Identification or motorize vehicle. Culture is greatMeeting new people and helping applicants succeed in getting their licenseIt's really stressful as well if you don't receive no support or help if you have question. Sometimes you tend to forget, and you always need that second opinion to do the job right. Advacement...? Not for a long time. you'll need to put in the time for that!

They are a cheap military contractor what do you expect from the feds in ottawa they love them they have one objective to run a military base on a shoestring budjet and make the civilians do the work the military do not want to do or do not know how to do is more like it do not have anything to do with this company they are a joke

Pros

Don’t Work Here!

Company does not care about staff. If they don’t like you for whatever reason they will manufacture facts to get rid of you! You are micromanaged yet expected to give up breaks and lunches to help with their constant booking errors.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Toxic!

Okay

Nothing great about working here, pay is not worth the stress and daily risks that you're putting yourself through as an examiner with new or in experienced drivers.

Pembroke is toxic

Was hired PT min 24hrs per week, they drop you week to week 9hrs sometimes. Management was poor. Playing staff against one another very toxic place. I worked and qualified for my benefits never got them asked management over 8 months all I heard was “I’ll look into that” great pay if hours are with it otherwise it’s worse than min wage .. my location pembroke was horrible!!

Pros

The public! Dealing with customers was my highlight

Cons

Management and a certain co-worker

HORRIBLE stay away from Serco!

This company is a sinking ship, they are under a contract which is up in 2023 and they will not get the contract from the ministry again. Serco is poorly run by a boys club of lazy managers and higher ups. There’s a huge disconnect between what really goes on in a drive test office and the regional/upper management. What’s expected of each employee is insane, and it’s constant high stress. You’re just expected to deal with it, and if you don’t they just fire and hire. There is no respect for the amount of work one does there, all that counts is numbers numbers numbers. Error rates is all you’ll hear about, the pay does not reflect the amount of work and risk you endure there. You’re constantly audited and monitored it’s a terribly stressful non motivating environment. Stay away!

Pros

None at all

Cons

No support, high stress, no security or safety

Not a bad place

If you like being on the phone all day it’s a great job for you. Pay is great and benefits as well! Always job openings available and room for raises.

Not Recommended

If you value customer service and treating individuals with respect as a CSA should, this is not a company that appreciates those values aside from posters on the breakroom walls. As a new employee you are thrown to the wolves and if you expect support from coworkers or staff, you'll be greatly disappointed. They do not acknowledge any good you do, or the level of expectation and stress they put you through, especially during Covid; quite frankly, not even to the individuals walking through the doors for services. The amount of unacceptable behaviours I witnessed from staff while training and starting on the counter was astounding! The lack of valid support from management, or working with new staff to learn the job was dismal. The amount they invest in new employees only to send them out the door because it is near impossible to complete your probationary period of 500+ hours when working 3-4 hour shifts (giving zero job security), let alone reducing any anxieties that you're exceeding the daily error allowance by actually educating that employee as to what the errors are and how to correct them, just goes to show how expensive their revolving door is. I, myself, did not work as a drive examiner but am saddened to have witnessed the sheer horror and abuse they are subjected to, not only by the company's ridiculous policies to "prevent covid" (laughable), but from customers themselves due to trying to enforce company policy. Policy is not developed by feedback from frontline workers, it is often a flaccid response to entitled and disgruntled customer complaints. -

Pros

Transaction variety, problem solving, possibly making someone's stressful licensing issue better

Toxic environment, insecure hours, lack of job security, poor health & safety

Fun place to work at

It is busy place to work. very few opportunities of growth. Job security is there. every day is a new day and exciting. Every minute at work fun and required you to be on your feet.

Pros

Job security

Cons

growth possibilities

Stay away, toxic environment and culture.

Toxic work environment. The problem lays in upper management with a huge disconnect to what actually happens in the work place. Government policy goes out the door to cater to anyone who complains. Staff are unhappy at their job and stressed. The pay is decent but you will have to give up your life as you’re expected to be available Monday to Saturday from open to close however, you’re not guaranteed to get full time hrs and or benefits for all your commitments

Pros

It’s a paycheque

Cons

Toxic environment, no support or chance to grow, unreasonable expectations, unorganized, work/life balance, winter layoff/reduced hours, favouritism, no incentives, dealing with the public

Difficult Company to work for

Lots of stuff to learn and remember. They audit every step you make. No room for errors. With so many people from other countries, it’s difficult to know if the documents are acceptable. Def. high stress for the money. I would NOT recommend this company for a long term position. Run by a bunch of dopes who think they above all. Keep looking elsewhere peeps.

Pros

Close to home

Cons

Too much to learn for a stupid part time position

Time bound and target based

Its a stressful job as your life is in hands of drivers who hardly know to drive. Money paid is not even close to the risk you take in road tests you take. There are certain number of road tests you have to complete in a day and each test is time bound. If you don't do certain number of road tests , you are called by supervisor. There is Union, so the senior and old employees try to play dirty politics on new employees.

Pros

Some old employees giving good advice on work matters, free lunch

Cons

Not paid as per risk taken, time bound, target based, not chance of advancement

Fun work if you like it.

At Serco Drive Test you will have interesting work. The customer service there can be quite rewarding. The downside here is you will work part time for very few hours and there is little chance for advancement unless you can hang in until someone full time retires. This can take years. When you are hired you are required to do a weeks worth of training and if you do not pass said training then you will not be offered the position. This can be nerve wracking if you have had to quite a previous position in order to take this training.

Pros

Fun and interesting work

Cons

Low hours and little chance for advancement

Pay is good if you live in rural areas but not for those in GTA

Staffing levels are poor causing extra stress and responsibilities on staff. No work life balance. Especially if you are a centre supervisor. Advancement opportunities seem to be hard to achieve even after 17 years of exemplary work ethic and high performance reviews. They don’t want to let you move up from the bottom if you are good at your job as they don’t want to lose you on the front lines.

Makes Fawlty Towers look like a well-oiled machine.

This company is so poorly run it is scandalous. It has been nothing but an aggravating waste of time from the very unfortunate second I heard about them. It is bewildering to me how anyone actually gets licensed in this province with the scheer ineptitude of the people who run this company, and the disorganization from the floor to the ceiling. Its farcical!

Good First-Line Management BUT Deplorable Working Conditions and Benefits

The front-line supervisors do their best to keep morale high but the company culture of only hiring part-time, with no sick or vacation pay is very discouraging. The equipment is outdated and in poor repair.

Terrible place to work at.

Very dangerous job. Dealing with high rate public all the time. Very poor management and human resources not dealing with harassment complaints. Several randoms letting go of managers.
