A lot of ineffective travel and customer calls
Regional Account Manager (Current Employee) –  Uniontown, PA11 April 2019
it was impossible to make effective calls because of the customers and the industry. Sensus has a good product but a tough market. There were days when we made 8 stops and saw no one. Left a box of donuts and a business card and hoped for the best.

Technical Writer (Contract) (Former Employee) –  Morrisville, NC 275609 October 2018
I liked who I worked with and the work I did at Sensus. My subject matter experts were easy to contact and cared about what went into their documents. If I had suggestions for improvements, they were very open to trying them.

Sr. Manager Technical Support (Former Employee) –  Raleigh, NC15 January 2018
The atmosphere at Sensus was laid back and most employees were friendly, happy, and very helpful. The technology is very high tech and it seems that only the best and brightest were hired to work there.
Pros
excellent benefits package
Cons
long commute in thick traffic

Assembler (Current Employee) –  Morrisville, NC19 June 2017
The work place was not good. There were alot of old people who were always staring rumors and the manager did nothing about it. The job itself was easy but the people who I worked with were terrible.

industry leader of AMI/AMR technology
Program Manager (Former Employee) –  Morriesville, Raleigh, NC5 July 2016
Company is international, privately held, head quartered out of Morrisville, NC. They manufacture electric meters, gas meters, and water meters for national and international sales. They have been active participant in the Automated Meter Reading/Automated Meter Infrastructure since 2005 and has also taken on distribution automation out of Boise Idaho.

Under customer operations group, they manage over 1000 AMI/AMR projects throughout North America, so the project management work force is spread all over the US and Canada. This facilitates customer support and interactions. Because of this, there is considerable travel required (driving/air) to support many of the regions.

Management line and regional managers tend to be more involved with the customer and interactions back and forth inside the company as well. There has been cases where getting issues address becomes a fire-fight verses managing customer issues indicators. This is improving with verbal contact at the beginning, middle, and especially closing out a support case. It could be difficult to get upper management ear to address systemic problems. Often, it took our user base to force these needs.

Co-workers and company partners were the bonus of working at Sensus. These tight groups took much initiative to meet and exceed customer needs when brought to light. We supported and educated each other to better our positions and support the customer base.

The hardest part of the job was all of the required travel, and trying to initiate needed process change. A huge issue was program releases and updates.
more... Sensus does not have an engineering sustainment group, so once a new release has been pushed, the development group is off to the next full/patch release. This continues to make it a challenge to address customer issues that sometimes will not show up for weeks/months and by then, there is no one to support the original issue, so the fix is to "upgrade" to next patch/full release.

If you see a need or are willing to take on orphaned projects/processes, you can get the room to engage them. This was the most enjoyable part of working for Sensus.

Pros
co-workers, freedom to work from home and travel. Ability to take on new roles in support of the customer.
Cons
poor customer/employee education, new employees training was non-existent, too much travel, poor annual review process.

Great people to work with
Senior DevOps Engineer (Current Employee) –  Morrisville, NC12 April 2016
I'm one of the lucky people who actually provide a service to both internal and external customers. Developers and QA folks alike depend on my services to do their job. However, management is more concerned about software development and do not put any focus on the toolsets that help developers - they just expect the tools to be there and work, and ignore the fact that some good tooling require planning and manpower. This is the hardest part of the job.

The people are the best assets at Sensus. Sensus is like a medium-sized startup company but with money and so you get to know a lot of people.
Pros
Great people to work with; great job skill set development
Cons
Tough work/family atmosphere

People are Friendly but Management is not stable.
Buyer (Former Employee) –  DuBois, PA19 August 2015
A typical day consisted of many redundant type meetings that entailed issues that should have been handled the day prior to or handled outside of the group meeting with a small task team. My co-workers were very experience and had many years of dedication and on the job training due to serviving the many buyouts over the pass 50 years. My work experience was pleasant and I picked up additional job experience working in the Utility Industry. One of the biggest faults was the changing of the guard once to often, 6 bosses in 7 years. Their ambition for many years was to eliminate the manufacturing portion of the business and only concentrate on being a service company. There was to much money wasted in moving business sectors from location to location and investing in large program tools and training of personnel and then changing direction in a year or two. Too much money spent on travel and hotels.
Pros
Friendly co-workers, training opportunities, good pay scale
Cons
Poor health plan, to much out of pocket. Poor yearly evaluation program and merit increases
