It has benefits but that's about it
Daytime guard, access control (Current Employee) –  Dartmouth, NS13 December 2017
If you get into a site that didn't require talking or dealing with the office much you'll have more patience. However the sheer lack of organization, logic and sense shown but the scheduling staff is astounding. Very little care is given to client needs and even less care is given to Securitas employees.
Pros
benefits through Manulife
Cons
poor scheduling and communication

Not a great place to work.
Security Guard (Former Employee) –  London, ON10 July 2017
The management team was extremely under qualified, there were multiple times where guards would have to correct management on the procedures they should have been enforcing.
They cared very little about working with your life. You were guaranteed your job as long as your were ok with working terrible hours or barely getting any hours at all.
I'm not sure if the entire company is like this or if it's just the london office.
Avoid at all costs.

Management out of touch with reality
Mobile Shift-Supervisor & Assistant Mobile Manager (Current Employee) –  Cambridge, ON11 May 2017
Overall one of the better security companies to work for. The industry is flawed as a whole but Securitas is a good employer to work for in the industry. The benefits are nice but the money is not good for supervisory positions. The senior management is out of touch with the reality of the industry and unfortunately chooses client care over their employees.

longs hours, staff turnover, salary

More Guards Less Work
Security Officer (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON28 February 2017
Always they hire more guards than need and substitute the work.
so guards who are working before get less hours
I am wokring with Securitas from more than 1 Year inToronto and now I moved to Winnipeg.
In Winnipeg branch, they hired me as full-time Guard, but I get only 16 hours in two weeks. they call it seniority.

Not bad, but certainly not great
Site Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB4 February 2017
As Site Supervisor, saved a contract that was not going to be renewed which resulted in an extra 6 years of having that client business, which meant 6 years of income for Securitas.

Enjoyed autonomy as supervisor, but only because the client demanded that.

When client did end contract because of the current economy, I was buried on nights at shady auto auction.

Some smaller cities are after-thoughts.

Staff changeover at local office caused some issues for guards in the field. Overall not a horrible security company, but too often fails to recognize talent and opportunity.

Raises are virtually non-existent. Had one in 6+ years at the behest of the client - they threatened to cancel the contract if Securitas didn't comply.

They sometimes place personality differences ahead of recognizing talent. Have lost many superior security professionals because of this.
Pros
Some training in-house
Cons
Losing many contracts, office staff turn-over, raises are non-existent

Security Guard (Former Employee) –  Peterborough On22 August 2016
worked alone in securing buildings with hourly patrols, always had two way communication, in case of emergency. filled out hourly reports on activities on patrols. dealt with people giving them helpful information when necessary. Also worked as a team to do patrols of parking lots during hockey games in winter time. Worked in the public downtown Peterborough giving out parking tickets, to those who did not pay for parking, or had other infractions.
Pros
Good exercise, lost a lot of weight over 2 years as Parking enforcement
Cons
dealing with people while giving them parking tickets.

Not recommend this company
Security Guard (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON4 July 2016
Not recommend this company because of the following reason.

- Too much salary troubles by mistake of schedulers
- Really difficult to get permanent site
- Need deposit money for get Uniform
- Many sites have minimum wage and not going up
- Not so good medical benefit (get medical benefit after 6month, get dental benefit after 1 year and if not worked 1month by no job schedule, you lost medical benefit)

Front Desk Reception / Security Guard (Former Employee) –  Ottawa, ON21 May 2016
The salary is minimal. Theres no pay raise. I started and my co-worker was there 3 years and had the same salary as me. Someone I know still works for them and still have the salary from years ago. They charge the client more $$ but you will never get a raise. If there is a complaint they will never do anything about it. You will be under-appreciated,under-payed. There are far better security companies to work for.
Cons
under-payed
