Like dating your sister/ what's the point
Electrician (Former Employee) - Victoria, BC - 19 November 2022
This place has a bunch of great people working for it but a few real crock munchers running the show. Many of the Forman's are to chicken shoot to stick up for their guys when they are being mistreated and safety takes a back door all the time. When safety issues to do with asbestos and Maronite are brought to the attention of supervisors they are brushed aside and ignored.
Pros
Decent pay
Cons
Poor management

Nothing good to say
Class 1 shipfitter (chargehand) (Current Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 8 November 2022
Benefits are good and pay is good. Everything else is like serving time in a federal instution. Worst management ive ever seen or heard of in my 35 years as Fabricator. Dont trust anyone!

Revolving door at Seaspan. Ver high risk company to work for.
Procurement (Former Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 29 October 2022
Management does not promote from within, they do not help you in meeting goals or providing support for growth in the organization. Revolving door, letting good employees without cause and hiring for cheaper.
Pros
Good benefits
Cons
Poor management

Management killing Mr. Washingtons business
Tug master (Current Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 6 October 2022
Management hasn’t got a clue about the marine industry. Management is grossly over paid . Only real experience most of management has is in union bashing . No employee health and safety committee . Employee relations is terrible .
Pros
Great boats and the engineering dept.
Cons
Most of middle and upper management are faking it, They no little to nothing about the marine industry

Like drinking bleach and expecting to live
Captain (Former Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 5 October 2022
Changing CEO’s and Presidents like dirty underwear. They only care about trying to screw their employees. Profits over people, the general rule of the Washington family, is immensely prevalent in every aspect. They hire managers with zero relatable experience and use intimidation as their only recourse. 11/10 would never recommend

Good company but lots of politics
Anonymous (Current Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 1 September 2022
It is a good company with good benefits and good pay. However the work is stressful and people are extremely competitive. Lots of politics and male dominated environment

95% of fourth floor management are inept.
Welder (Former Employee) - Victoria, BC - 9 August 2022
The only way to keep your job at this employer is brown nose to the forth flour managers who are inept. They will then make you a charge hand (foreman) then lay off everyone else keeping the brown nosers behind. They'll then put them back on the tools after the seniority list layoff. Theres been several times where they've called trades people from all over Canada to work at the location. Only to lay those workers off within a day or 2 of arriving. No foresight and careless attitudes about people traveling long distance for the job. Words out now... This employer is the epitome of nepotism and anti union actions upon the working folks there. Most the 4th floor managers are weak minded and inferior trades people leading from one mishap to another. They are well protected although, because these folks protect their positions by pointing fingers at labour who they continually mismanage. Currently they are offering a large LOA to people across Canada to come work there. But unfortunately the jig is up, words out... no one wanna work at dirty politics jobs. The 4th floor managers with their inept management skills are costing upper management and ownership huge issues that upper management is blind to. 95% of these 4th floor managers need to kick rocks. House needs cleaning.

Jobs at Seaspan ULC
Disorganized and unprofessional
Casual Security Officer (Former Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 19 July 2022
Revolving door workplace, poor culture, union protects people that would be dismissed anywhere else, and management makes promises they have no intention of delivering on.

Good pay, low satisfaction, minimal growth, abundance of bias
Operations Supervisor (Former Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 19 July 2022
Pay on the higher end of industry, but watching the way leadership mismanages the increasing costs on the NSS projects and don't accept ownership knowing it is our taxes is discouraging. Management and HR allow bias to influence decisions, whether intentional or not doesn't matter. Promotions are not based on capability; especially in the trades as well as the office. Mostly foreign senior leadership, and female management only in the office and more for visible equality than actual capability.
Pros
Good benefits, minimal overtime unless paid
Cons
Low job satisfaction, minimal opportunity for real mentorship

Horribly managed , toxic culture
Journeyman Welder (Current Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 13 June 2022
Have been on and off with Seaspan for years the additional management and under qualified experts they continue to add us truly astonishing . Not only do they struggle to provide steady work, they have added multiple positions that previously never existed in hope of ramping up production ( for the job that was most likely bid too high to begin with so the ship isn’t coming ) Good place to be broken down as a tradesmen , if you are a qualified ticketed tradesmen , DO NOT waste your time here .

Super management, super culture, incredible location
Business Process Manager (contract) – Vancouver Shipyards (Former Employee) - VSY - 9 June 2022
Great company, the people were supportive and balanced. VSY was a startup for all intents so things got a little crazy at times, but it was fun delivering solutions that bolster efficiency. One improvement opportunity for the team at Seaspan would be to do competitive benchmarking, and be cautious about vendor solutions. Sometimes vendors will try to dictate your business systems landscape leaving optimal solutions on the table.

Stressful work place with management destroying moral
Worker (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 24 May 2022
Good work life balance with decent pay and benefits, co workers are good when they aren't in a bad mood from the awful moral that runs rampant, Not recommended, they pay good but own your soul

Wage, double time, and people are the only thing that make this place worth it.
Welder/Fitter (Former Employee) - Victoria, BC - 25 April 2022
Poor management. Very inefficient. The "multimillion dollar facility" is a tent that floods and smells of seagull **** when it rains. The hardest part of the job is staying there for a full shift or a full week. The most enjoyable part of my day is when I punch out and I know I don't have to go back for another 15.5 hours. Safety is a joke. The cranes are constantly lifting stuff over people's heads.

Avoid at all cost.
Welder (Current Employee) - Victoria, BC - 22 April 2022
Seaspan is a mess. Management are under qualified and barely capable of completing most projects. The workforce is left to deal with their lack of organizational skills and ability to plan a job properly. They manipulate time loss numbers to reflect an inaccurate safety record. The equipment on site is old and in poor condition. Promotions are made on a friends and family basis. They promote a green marine program while the site and the pollutants it produces are disgusting and toxic. Apprentices are treated like journeymen and expected to do all the same tasks with no training or supervision. In short, avoid if at all possible.
Pros
Coworkers will save your life.
Cons
See above. Just the tip of the iceberg.

Great company, Great Owners!
Mechanical Specialist and Machine operator (Current Employee) - North Vancouver, BC - 15 April 2022
Great company to work for in my opinion. It's an honor to help build military ships for our country's Coast Guard and Military. Seaspan has a great safety program and ensures workers are well versed in the job's safety requirements. There are regular training programs to keep employees up to date with equipment and safety including certifications on machines and equipment used to carry out our jobs. Quality control and Quality Assurance are high priorities at Seaspan's VSY and their personnel are very professional. Further, Accuracy control uses the latest technology to ensure things go together properly. Seaspan has a diverse workforce from all over the world that comes together to build these ships, Very inspiring!
Pros
Great pay for an in-town job
Cons
Environmental toxins during the construction of Vessels. Respirators are definitely needed.

Great place to work
System Analyst II (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 13 April 2022
I enjoyed working there it’s very competitive and fast paced but there is job security. It a great place to learn new things as everyday is a challenge.

No job security. High staff turnover. You’ll never know if you have a job from one day to the next.
Safety Manager Seaspan (Former Employee) - VSY - 7 April 2022
Awful culture. Their best safety managers and advisors were all fired by the dozen. Fired for working too slow, fired for working too fast. Be prepared to be replaced by an American ship builder, as they’re all being hired to replace us Canadians. This is an American company that pays their way out of any legal matter. I would highly recommend avoiding employment here.
Pros
Free parking.
Cons
Too many to list.

No concern for the workers.
Tradesman (Former Employee) - Victoria, BC - 30 March 2022
The company meets most minimum standards as set out by the government. They offer a few little perks to entice people to join or stay on. They don't have much actual respect for tradespeople who do the work there.
Pros
Free mediocre coffee
Cons
Toxic work environment
