Mixed feelings
Shipper/Receiver/Material Handler/order picker (Former Employee) - Brampton, ON - 16 November 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt was an alright job but you don’t get promoted unless you’re a woman and you absolutely get no increase of pay or any benefits whatsoever no matter how much you do for your branch.

Lots of off-time during the year whuch I liked
Raymond Reach Truck Operator (Former Employee) - Brampton, ON - 15 November 2022
Job wasn't hard at all and my manager was very relaxed on the morning shift and never bothered me but they had an annoying 2nd shift supervisor who liked to micromanage ppl from the morning for the 2 hour period where both shifts are there at the same time. The office ppl and higher managers are all females and to my knowledge and observation very good coffee buddies, who push each other to better positions.

Modern and inclusive work culture
Inventory Coordinator (Current Employee) - Moncton, NB - 30 June 2022
The atmosphere is far more relaxed than most companies. Management is very open to staff enjoying their time at work, providing the work expectations are met. Company is also very inclusive in its hiring/promoting, as EDI is extremely important to the overall company culture. Work/life balance is the best I’ve ever experienced in all my years.
Pros
Great hours, paid leave, relaxed and casual atmosphere
Cons
Certain tasks may be a bit repetitive

Excellent Team
Administrator (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 15 March 2022
My time at s=Scholastic was a great introduction to the industry. Great co-workers great management. Excellent way to get your foot in the door when it comes to working in an assembly like team. There on pay days we can go to store and buy used books during lunch time which is cool. You never know what you're going to find in the store.
Pros
Anniversary lunch days, Christmas Lunches, Fun activities on Halloween and the Holidays

Books and accessories are on sale for season. Best for all parents.
Seasonal Fulfillment Associate (Former Employee) - Brampton, ON - 16 September 2021
I learned to know people to work with. Management's ok. It is difficult if ones not knowing to adjust themselves. Tries to know them well, especially you're not in their own race, go along with the flow. ADJUSTMENT IS THE KEY inside the warehouse.:)
Pros
Discount books for sale
Cons
Learn to deal your issue

Toxic and mentally exhausting place to work
Order Picker/Packer (Former Employee) - Moncton, NB - 29 April 2021
I have never been so miserable in a workplace, stuck in one spot all day and can’t casually talk to coworkers or you get in trouble or written up. Unrealistic expectations of staff daily. The management was not understanding of staffs feelings, all they care about is the standards of the work, as if getting written up repeatedly will make someone want to work harder. I also was never informed that I wouldn’t be returning back to work when covid hit and we were laid off. The only benefits were the pay, schedule, and getting off early sometimes. They say there is opportunity for advancement but there really isn’t.
Pros
Schedule
Cons
Unrealistic expectations, toxic

Cons

Pros
Christmas lunch, pizza lunch, free coffee and donuts
Cons
Pay is not enough

very clicky and favoritism
Warehouse (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 6 July 2020
when I worked here the management either buried their head in the sand to what the rest of the warehouse staff was saying or they played favorites to family.

Productive and Fun workplace
Volunteer Cashier (Former Employee) - Crossfield, AB - 2 June 2020
I only volunteered there but it had a fun environment. Working with the other members was enjoyable. The system itself was organized and east to learn.

I love the atmosphere and my manager is amazing.
Fulfillment clerk (Current Employee) - Moncton, NB - 18 March 2020
A very understanding company to work for. They genuinely care for the well being of their employees. I work at the Moncton branch and I love going to work. We have our peak in November , and we will be busy..... but the group I work with makes it so easy and we get it done with smiles on.
We are like family... but we were lucky to pick ours.

UPDATE: Mismanagement at it's finest.
Fullfillment Clerk (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 12 December 2019
Very mismanaged environment and not a healthy workplace amongst the employees. They expect you to pick deliveries purely by yourself rather than as a team lift. Or not even supply safety gloves working around cardboard actively. Also is perfectly okay with employees who harass others and will not discipline them. I was actually fired for being harassed and coming forward about it to management. To add insult to injury, I had no HR team I could contact at all. Not that I'd want to work for a company okay with favoritism and harassment.
As well, in terms of just as a job its really not worth it. They offer no competitive pay whatsoever (only minimum wage), no benefits of any kind, no sick pay, and they only give you two personal days. Also they only give summers off but you have to go on EI to even have money. You can find way better paying warehouse job elsewhere that has more to offer and doesn't tolerate harassment. I deleted an older review only so I could warn people about how awful this company is and how badly its management is. Keep applying for jobs people, better are out there.

Warm and welcoming work environment
Front End Web Developer (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 13 November 2019
It was an absolute pleasure to work at Scholastic Canada.
Management there was the most warm, welcoming and helpful of any place I've ever worked.
Just wish my position wasn't contract or I'd still be happily working for them.

No hope, Good until you expect anything from them.
Material Handler/Forklift Operator (Former Employee) - Brampton, ON - 25 September 2019
Strictly selfish company that doesn’t feel or do anything about the lower rank work force. Treats them as nobody, wants 100% from you, may be 200%, but don’t want to do anything for you. Of course because the top and middle leve management, who will always behave nicely but won’t mean a thing they tell you. Pretentious and mean at what they do.
No growth (maybe if you are a specific race, maybe if you love bootlicking, maybe if you don’t ever voice your opinion and are full of YES MAM), no opportunities, try somewhere else and you would at least reach somewhere or recognized after 6 months. This company is going to fail you if you are entry level.
Pros
Mismanaged and hence you can waste time if that’s what you seek
Cons
No growth, no recognition, lots of politics, selfish and spineless people treating you unfairly over and over

fun place to work
Picker/packer Seasonal (Former Employee) - Markham, ON - 19 September 2019
This was a great place to work, meeting new people in a faced paced enviroment. employees are friendly and welcoming. However it is very hard to become a full time employee after season is over.

Scholastic Canada makes a positive difference to the daily lives of millions of children around the world.
Supply and Demand Planner (Current Employee) - Markham, ON - 7 September 2019
It is an honour to be a part of the work that Scholastic does to ensure that children across Canada and the United States are engaged by reading, and have affordable access to books that reflect such a wide variety of interests.

Poor Management, Workplace culture for employees is really strict. No new direction for the company or its employees. Need to develop ways to have the employees to be more involved.
