Different depending on where you work.

There are many different positions at Value Village. I have worked as a Cashier, a Community Donation Center Ambassador, a Furniture Pricer, and a Recycler. Accepting donations and working as a recycler are physically demanding positions and keep you in shape. Management was always generally great and helpful, and I have no complaints about it.

Save yourself a headache - work for a different company or a different location.

- Management was atrocious. - Generally liked to pick on and bully the employees, often reminding them that they're expendable and replacable. Furthermore, they can and will actively bully employees they dislike into quitting so they don't fire them, thus underhandedly disallowing ex-staff members to apply for Employment Insurance. - No sense of work/life balance, often harassing employees for calling in sick once with guilt trips or threats of physical/written documentation outlining why you're in trouble for 'abandoning your team'. Furthermore, time off was often declined, regardless of frequency, yet management would take time off and call in sick whenever they felt like it? - Very quick to absolve themselves of blame and throw lower level employees under the bus or fault them for incidents that they didn't cause. - Promises of training on equipment such as forklifts, or cross-training into other departments, but never any follow-up.- A high level of patience is required for the customers. - Many customers were incredibly rude solely because it was a thrift store. - Many customers would try to donate broken items and literal garbage, claiming that they worked. - Be prepared to lift very heavy objects. Items can range from anywhere between 5 lbs and 75 lbs. Management will tell you to carry these by yourself at times.

Pros

Occasional free meals or cakes to celebrate birthdays, and employees are pretty close-knit and easy to get along with.

Only use it as a last resort

Too much stress to deal with to be worth doing it. Super lack of help/appreciation from management. Lots of favoritism between people and makes you feel shunned. And the bullying that happens is uuunnnrrreeaaallll.

Pros

none really

Cons

everything!!

Best job I had growing up!

I really loved working for Value Village, because it was the first time I ever really felt supported by my supervisors and colleges. Everyone is friends with everyone.

Don’t work here.

I have nothing good to say about this company except that the discount was pretty awesome and so are the people. That’s really the only reason I stayed. You get in trouble for taking on too much work when you have no choice but to because they’re too busy to hire.

Management is terrible, work environment is toxic

Not worth working here, they stress you out until you have a full on breakdown and then they won't do anything about it except ignore you. They'll laugh in your face if you tell them you've faced discrimination.

Pros

Sometimes you get food

Cons

Everything else.

Hours are great, but management was clueless and employees were not friendly.

The hours were Monday to Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm if you worked in the production area (the back). Management would treat you like a friend then come after you if you had one slip up. Often they were very unprofessional with how they spoke to employees and expected too much. Coworkers had no respect for others, it was basically a fight everday you went. No pay raise till after year and it was a very small raise.

Nice co-workers not a good system running it

Enjoy the people i work with but management of the store is a bit chaotic. They also tell you of advancement but never follow through. Hours are put in for one reason and completely changed last minute for completely different reason.

Poor management

Working in the back was a nightmare. Managers were rude when stressed. Everything was rushed, managers don’t care about anything else than meeting their numbers for the day. Loud noises consistently and no matter what shoes you wore, your feet were gonna hurt regardless and you’d have a headache by the end of the day.

Cons

Long hours, understaffed, poor management, rude managers, unfair pay

Bad management

Start the day at 7:30 am going on the floor to clean up and get rid of old stock. Go back to production and start unpacking donations make quota a must or you get told is not good enough is actually never good enough. People quit every day and management is the worst a lot of people leave within days of stating is very dirty and the heat is unbearable. The only good part of this job are the team members.

Pros

Nice coworkers

Cons

Management
