Fast Paced

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
It was very hectic sometimes, and sometimes the people were hard to deal with, but it was fun. We were treated well and the managers did try to accommodate for us.

Friendly staff and great workplace culture

Working at Value Village is fun and fast--paced. It's never boring, and you get to learn a lot of new skills. The management is friendly and accommodating, and I liked everyone I worked with. The only frustrating part of the job for me was the til because there was a little bit of pressure; the best part was definitely the satisfaction of helping the environment and community, and accepting donations. A typical day in the front of the store might include opening duties, accepting payment, creating savers club accounts, operations in the change room area or at the display case, maintaining the shelves and clothing racks, helping customers locate items around the store, and cleaning up.

Accepting Workplace Culture; Meaningful Work

Working in front of store is fun overall. There is so much to do every day that the time passes very quickly. The job is rarely boring because you get to do lots of different things -- but none are inevitable, so you don't just get to do what you like. You have to go where you're summoned. When you work at the til, you have to make a certain amount of people sign up, and I didn't really like the pressure of that, but everything else was actually pretty exciting. The management is really encouraging and open to questions. Teamwork is huge, so you can rely on anyone working there to have your back or answer your questions, even if you've never met them. It feels good to know that in a small way, you are helping the environment and a local charity, as well. Out of the dozens of people I worked with, almost everyone was friendly, upbeat, and encouraging. The added bonus is that you get to dress up all October for Halloween -- so that's fun.

Absolutely terrible

Avoid this place like the plague, pay is only slightly above minimum wage, the work environment is dirty and dangerous and management is abusive and unfair. You're expected to work until you drop, and that's still not enough for them, people look like they want to die in production and management stares at you while you work, and if you make one slight mistake they'll yell at you. Very high turnover rate, you're just another number to them and you'll be treated as such. If you enjoyed being treated like human garbage from unfair management, this is the place for you.

None

Worst place to work

In the time that I was there, I had never seen such inconsistency with policies and management. The managers are sloppy and have poor organization skills as well as they write you up for the stupidest things such as having rips in your jeans or wearing a bright colored shirt. A little while ago they changed the policy to only solid colored shirts and wrote me up for having a pink shirt. That's ridiculous as well as the one supervisor is extremely racist, sexist, and homophobic. Don't work here. It's a trap.

Pros

Discount

Cons

Inconsistent hours, poor management, racism, sexism, and homophobia.

team lead in production

Not a bad place to work, people are fairly friendly with a fast paced environment. Opportunities for advancement with bonuses and sometimes exciting contests to keep morale up. Halloween is the best time to work here.

Pros

fun staff

Cons

cramped work environments

Value Village does great things with regards to recycling and helping the community.

The work is hard, but it is with good people. The floor is constantly being rearranged, and all structures are built on-site. It can be very physical no matter what department you are working in, but it is rewarding to see a job done well. At times communication is lacking, but typically complaints are heard and addressed. My favourite part of the job is seeing all of the nifty, unique items and sharing my love of thrift with customers and co-workers.

Fun place to work

Overall, had a really good experience with this job. If the management knows that you have the potential to learn more duties, they will teach you and acknowledge you.

Pros

Free lunches at times, benefits, raises every so often.

Cons

Long hours depending on the day.

Okay place if you need a job

Its a good place to hone customer service skills. The work isn't very mentally stimulating or difficult, and is easy to learn.

Bad work environment

Strenuous work, dirty work, working with old moldy clothes with out proper protection. Management always expecting you to exert yourself, and everyone gets pulled down if only certain others are not putting in their share of work.

Pros

Weekends off

Cons

Management, dirty/tiring work

Great first place to get a job

Everyone got along with each other, the pay was really well. After 6 months of working there, you would get benefits which was great.

Pros

Friendly, fun
