Anxiety ridden, unhelpful, managers nowhere to be found to help
Auto Tradesperson (Former Employee) - Saskatoon, SK - 25 May 2021
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedFelt unsecure after getting hired. Finding out youre not doing what you were hired for. Became a janitor instead of a tradesperson. Noone wanted to help train you, youre on your own once you walk in. Youll take company courses every other day, emails and accountability is all they push at you. Were treated like youre in grade school even doing the simplest tasks at your job. Was told by some good luck moving up here, gotta wait your turn. Others simply say I’m not getting paid to train anyone, so you just wander around and try to figure it out on your own.And discovered i was hired at the lowest pay band, i took a 10.00/hour paycut to join, forget it. I wish theyd have a try before you hire day, id have avoided this career move knowing what i know now. Managers noplace to be found to discuss a concern, but will email you reminding you to do another online course. They push mental health but all that place gave me was anxiety everyday. Its a different culture…Think carefully before you join!!
Pros
Health plan, some discounts, purchase plans.
Cons
Prison like feeling, term employment so no job security, corporate structure, reprogramming, hourly emails to remind you to take another company course.

SGI Corporate Transformation Project Management Leadership Team Is Disaster.
PMO Manager (Current Employee) - Regina, SK - 30 September 2022
SGI is a great place to work in terms of benefits, professional development opportunities, and long term career. Unfortunately, SGI Corporate Transformation leadership team expects too much from project team and put them under great amount of stress. The Director of the CT project is extremely difficult to work with and will make your life unpleasant. I would highly recommend not to work for CT team for a good mental health.
Pros
benefits and flexible hours
Cons
long hours

Our Department is a good place to work but limited advancement
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 19 July 2022
Overall SGI is a very good place to work. The culture of each department depends on what kind of leadership style the manager has. It can be positive and negative. Great benefits and work-life balance depending on the position. Some departments like claims can be very stressful however managers are actively looking for ways to help their people. Overall, I would recommend this place to work.
Pros
Employee appreciation days, health and wellness incentive, mental health
Cons
limited advancement unless willing to move

It's not the best company to work for
Information Support Worker (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 9 May 2022
This company is okay if you are the type of person that wants to learn all the time and spend your free time going back to school. If you don't have a degree, you will not go far in the company. I've seen people who don't have business degrees run departments and they don't know what they are doing. As well SGI also gets rid of hardworking people who make one mistake and "tells them they aren't ethical enough to work here". Temporary or Term people are not safe here, so be careful when applying here. As well if you try to apply for a permanent job here, you aren't priority because of seniority.
Pros
laid back environment, fun activities, paid benefits, yearly health spending plan, and work from home (depending on what job you are doing).
Cons
too much management and employee turnover, sick time is too relaxed that why people call in sick all the time, too much work for one person sometimes, call center people not trained properly, and management/union doesn't help you at all.

Cons

Government benefits but lack of ethical boundaries and micromanagement
Underwriting Assistant (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 20 August 2021
My experience with SGI went downhill within 6 months of joining the company. It started great as the team is welcoming at first but then they go super quiet with you for no reason. Benefits are good and the only reason you should prefer SGI over other crown companies is if you're comfortable studying insurance for rest of your career. They will pay for your insurance courses (if you pass) but will basically keep pushing you to take more courses if you want to climb up the ladder. Studying is not the only sad part when you work for SGI, most of the management specially underwriting management lacks ethical boundaries and have no respect for privacy or work ethics. If you try to raise any concerns to HR or union they put you in one category and soft target you in every meeting trying to get you to speak up and keep you in their watchlist for the whole time even if you change departments. They will use every resource they have to find out more about your concerns indirectly. So, if you are someone who likes to lay low and keep quiet about your concerns then you should be ok working there but if ever speak up about them (even once) then say goodbye to your privacy. Management's surveillance standards has no boundaries and they're not at all transparent about what they monitor but trust me they monitor/watch everything - your screen, your work chats, calls, your social media outside work hours, even your personal devices if they get super interested in you but they will never be transparent to you when they give feedbacks. At first I was ok with being micromanaged as I used to mind -
Pros
Good benefits, helpful team members
Cons
Zero privacy, micromanagement, round the clock monitoring

The work is fine but the management needs to go
Underwriting Assistant (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 14 July 2021
The company is very focused on a culture change but it is manufactured by another company. Everyone is so worried about climbing up a ladder they forget to come to earth and care about their current jobs. Head office is a very problamtic place that showed sexisim, homophobia, and racisim with few mangers making it great but being outnumbered and HR mostly concerned about silencing issues then fixing it. The new "Everyone can be a leader" is their new cover all to shift responsibility.
Pros
Pay, benefits, union
Cons
Management, work environment, culture

Previous Driver Examiner
Driver examiner (Former Employee) - Prince Albert, SK - 27 April 2021
Work for a private company. Management is so bad they don't listen to your complaints even if you are on the right side. Union is a joke and if you ever get in problem either leave the job or suck your problem up.
Pros
Alright benefits and pension plan similar to a good Private corporation
Cons
Unfair employee policies, management don't give a care about employees, wrong advertisement of their hiring process

Great Company to work with
Underwriter (Current Employee) - Regina, SK - 7 July 2020
The company is great for job security. Sometimes a bit hard to change jobs. Company has a great vision but sometimes hard for management to articulate and live by the vision. Currently the company is embarked on a major culture change program that is reshaping its work culture as it emerges from a service company as a Sask insurer of all to privately owned public corporations focused on making profits.
Pros
Job security and great people to work with.
Cons
Slow personal progress.

Jobs at Saskatchewan Government Insurance
Secure
Auto Claims Adjuster (Current Employee) - Lloydminster, SK - 18 June 2020
I felt very secure working at SGI. A lot of opportunities not always in the rural areas. The culture is moving into a positive direction. Great core values.

Great people and interesting work!
Driver Examiner (Former Employee) - Swift Current, SK - 3 June 2020
While the job of a Driver Examiner can be (almost always is) highly stressful, the interaction and camaraderie between examiners and the support from management make it more than just bearable - it's a very exciting, fast-paced job that is sure to generate stories that will last a lifetime! It's great to be able to make the day of someone who is looking for their first drivers' licence or to upgrade to a new class of licence for work. There are hard moments but this is a great job!

Co workers are the best part of the job
Personal Injury Representative II (Former Employee) - Saskatoon, SK - 9 March 2020
The actual work is very stressful. But the co workers are supportive and very much like family.
Management will push hard to get a lot of work from you.
You MUST have a tough skin, as customers are stressed out and dislike SGI BEFORE you even speak to them.

Fun place to work. Coworkers are helpful
Adjuster 1 (Current Employee) - Saskatoon, SK - 6 January 2020
Fun place to work. Coworkers are helpful. I will always come back and work here. Best manager who accommodates and work with your schedule.
You get a day off every 9 working days either on a Friday or Monday. Benefits only kicks in after 6 months of employment and this is 100% paid by the employer.

Crown Corporation of Saskatchewan
Accounting Clerk II (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 18 October 2019
SGI is a Crown Corporation. It is employee friendly organisation. It provides one day off every other week other than normal holidays. There is employee union which helps you resolve any issues with the management and seniors.
Lot of learning opportunity and connection between employee and manager is good.
Even opportunity to grow your career with equal chance with internal training and various opportunities.

Started great. But got worse over time
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 21 June 2019
Started great. After rules changed the job became worse and worse. Micromanaged and the management have little people skills. If you like getting yelled at the call centre is right for you. If you ask to go somewhere else they will refuse until you cant take it anymore. Their testing is atrocious and HR doesnt listen your concerns.
Threw away the best person in the company like their 25 years meant nothing. Morale was low.
Cons
Testing is rediculous. If you dont pass they keep you in the same position

Short, concise
IT Analyst (Current Employee) - Saskatchewan - 18 June 2019
Interview usually done by specific department hiring. This is better than just an HR department doing the hiring. Unfortunately since it's unionized, there is a large range of work attitudes, with little motivation for those who overperform.
Pros
Good job security, lots of opportunity for overtime
Cons
Unfortunate culture

Can be Great or Terrible Depending on Your Priorities
Claims Adjuster (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 18 November 2018
PROS:
Difficult to get your foot in the door; once you do, and clear your probation, it can be quite worthwhile to stay, depending on your ambitions and priorities.
SGI does value employees' personal development and 100% funds any CIP, FCIP, and business-related courses and education.
The health, dental, life insurance benefits and vacation days are standard for government/crown employees. Vacation starts at 3 weeks a year, increases to 4 weeks a year after 8 years of service, and so on.
The pay is quite generous once you move past the clerical positions. Compared to similar roles nationally, SGI is amongst the higher paying employers. SGI also gives all employees an annual 'bonus' based on their years of service and current salary.
There is ample free parking within any department that is not downtown.
CONS:
The workload is usually quite heavy, so most employees are overworked, stressed to meet deadlines, and not trained adequately enough when entering any new roles. There is no succession planning for positions management knows will be vacant within xxx days.
It is quite difficult to get the vacation days you want unless you have the seniority for it or have planned a year in advance and pre-booked everything with management.
One common issue is the micromanagement and low morale within most departments. Most departments have a "keep your head down and keep working" type of work environment. The corporation claims to value all employees' input, but this is simply not true. Front-line or lower-level employees can easily get black-listed for speaking up when they see -
Pros
Excellent pay & benefits, 100% covered tuition, free parking if not at head office
Cons
Low morale, mircomanagement, biased promoting

Good people to work with.
Clerk (Former Employee) - Regina, SK - 26 April 2018
The people are great to work with. The work was easy enough, but repetitive and often not engaging. The type of work depends on your experience level. The best part of SGI are the people you get to work with.
Pros
Free lunches
Cons
Poor management
