Interesting technology, lots of work, poor upper-management
Manager (Former Employee) – Waterloo, ON – 18 February 2015
Company culture tries to make it a good fun place to work. Profit sharing gives a few extra bucks now and then. Small teams so you still can feel important, though of course that means working harder. They promote a work hard play hard philosophy but in reality it`s almost always just work hard and harder, especially for those not in Waterloo.
CTO (Dave Caputo) is awesome, as are all the founding members and very top rung of the leadership.
However, there is something seriously wrong with the rest of upper management (Directors, AVPs, VPs) they seem to do nothing but spin their wheels in place, keep the status-quo, and stifle creativity and progress. If you are top talent you will actually get bored and frustrated here very fast to the point of either having to quit or being let go if you try to hard to disturb them with fresh or useful ideas.
There is also a lot of preferential treatment. You either kiss you-know-what and have it easy no matter how poor of an employee you are, or you don`t and are mistreated, abused, and eventually let go or forced to quit.
Also do not expect fair performance evaluations or salary increases. The two are strangely unrelated.
This could be an absolutely great company, and at some point it was, but it`s being slowly destroyed from within by poor management who is driving away top talent and replacing them with mediocre Yes-Men.
Culture, profit sharing, technology, Ceo, Cto
Poor Upper-Management, useless performance evaluations, consistent long and hard working hours, little chance for advancement, creativity stifling
