They don’t care about staff!
Residential Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 9 October 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedManagement really does not care about the staff! Be prepared to be overworked! I was par-time on my contract, even though I worked full-time Hours due to staff shortages and needs. They never compensated me at all. I never got paid my vacation pay too when I left the company.

Human Resources (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 27 November 2023
Worked there for about 2 years and honestly it is the most toxic place I have worked. Management do not care for you at all and do not respect you. So many people have quit because of management. People in the office setting usually last for about 2 to 6 months and then leave. It is a saying at Safehaven "how long do you think this person will last".

Avoid at all costs
RPN (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 31 October 2023
Nepotism/favoritism run rampant. Management and senior leadership have created a fear-based culture. Toxic work environment. HR is hiring underqualified support staff. On-call senior leadership does not answer phone calls, most of the supervisors and coordinators are clueless, they turn a blind eye to known negligence. Bottom of the barrel benefits. Over worked, underpaid staff. The best part of the job would be the clients, it's the only reason that keeps some people from resigning.
Pros
The clients
Cons
Benefits, rate of pay, toxic work environment, nepotism

The WORST Company to EVER work for.
Residential Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 26 September 2023
Don't work here unless you want to feel your life drained from you one incident at a time. HR doesn't know what they're doing and hires incompetent staff. The turnover rate for staff is ridiculous, and we can barely keep one person on for over five months. Upper management doesn't care about you and puts unrealistic expectations on you with little to no training. They do not care about your education, training, orientation, or your job. They expect you to know what you're doing and throw you to the wolves. They don't care if you sink or swim so long as they get what they want. They are ruthless, money-hungry, power-tripping monsters. They don't care for the kids but the "lowly employees" care more for these kids than you could ever imagine. Save yourself the headache and do NOT ever work here.

Over worked, always short staffed, opinions don’t matter
Nurse (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 28 January 2023
Direct management is great, but senior management is horrible. Staff are not respected or barely even thanked when they’ve had to pull 24 hour shifts because of being short staffed. The workload can be overwhelming depending on your assignment. They ask for our opinions but then tell us that their way is better or that our opinion doesn’t work. We are the ones frontline! We would know! Senior management is the reason this place has such a high turnover rate. I’m shocked this place is still even running!

Love working with our clients, best part of the job
Registered Practical Nurse (Current Employee) - Woodbridge, ON - 3 November 2022
Working with the clients is why I'm still here. Love the job itself, very hands on, not for everyone. Management sucks but thats the same anywhere you go.

The most stressful place to work
Administrative (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 27 June 2022
This is a horrible place to work, they will assign you with tasks when you already have a full workload. Senior management is extremely condescending and will blame you for anything to cover up their own inadequacies. The most enjoyable part of the job is the clients.
Pros
Clients
Cons
They will overwork you, senior management is very demeaning, extremely stressful, no training and no forgiveness if you do anything incorrectly. Barely any benefits.

Overall, it was a great place to.work.
Registered Practical Nurse (Pediatric) (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 2 May 2022
Not a bad place to work. I love that we all work together. There are lots of issues at this work place just like every other place on this planet. You learn different skills all the time. I.love the education days (free lunch 😋🤩👏). Just apply and see the benefits.
Pros
The Residents will melt your heart
Cons
Hire the appropriate staff to do certain jobs.

If you are not a nurse you are worthless to this organization
Supervisor (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 19 March 2021
Always preaching support for their employees, they have no regard for mental health. If you are not a “yes” man then this job is not for you. Management is absolutely horrible they make their own assumptions on employees without speaking to them about anything. They will dock you pay with no warning and are absolutely viscous people.
Pros
The kids
Cons
Everything but the kids

Stressful and Underpaid/ Poor Management
Residential Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 13 January 2021
The only good part is the kids. Staff are overworked and underpaid. The DPPP is dismissive of on-going issues and of employees stress levels. Poor communication, if you are hired as an SSW you will be very disappointed. Not enough staff/ time for the work load. Blames employees for management mistakes. No work life balance, will over work you. DO NOT APPLY HERE ! Its not worth the stress.
Pros
the kids
Cons
management/ stress

Horrid place to work.
Residential Supervisor (Former Employee) - toronto - 26 August 2020
Staff under trained and underpaid. Management right up to upper management-including the ED. Revolving door of staff-no one stayed due to poor work conditions. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly. Most unprofessional place I have ever worked. Felt sorry for the kids and their families. Stay far far away. So many better agencies out there that pay way more, offer training and support-and make you feel appreciated.
Pros
kids
Cons
management sucked.

Toxic work environment
Residential Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 10 January 2020
Stressful, overwhelming and overloads the workers with tasks beyond capabilities and capacity to complete On in a reasonable time
Staff are miserable and management just focuses on loading people with more work than giving staff space to work effectively and with proper training
Mistakes made due to lack of training is blamed on staff competency. Staff have potential but management dies not offer proper time investment to provide good training
Pros
The kids
Cons
Management, poor training plan, unrealistic work load

Good intentions but unsafe environment
Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 16 April 2019
Very hardworking and dedicated front-line staff, but are often overworked and placed in unsafe situations (I.e. unregulated staff being responsible for giving medications, or nurses providing care they have not received enough training for). Good intentions to provide respite and residential care to kids, but lacking the necessary resources and staff competency.
Pros
Kids are wonderful to work with, opportunities to learn new skills
Cons
Leadership needs improvement, staff not provided lunch breaks, no overtime pay

RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKER (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 11 November 2018
While this is a decent place to bring your child for respite, working for this company is not for me. It is unorganized, unsanitary and the workers are very under appreciated.

Never again
SUPPORT WORKER (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 12 August 2017
When I first started working there it was fun but it when down hill, real quick. The best thing about this place is the kids and going out on outings. Staff and management nit pick everything, there is no advancement and the pay suck. Oh and I forgot to mention there is no job security. Workers revolve like a swinging door.

Residential Support Worker (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 16 January 2014
Very safe for families with children who are suffering from a mental or physical disability. It is a respite service that provides a safe home away from home for children with a mental or physical disability.
It was a an honor to work with the wonderful staff and admin staff. Especially, working with the children and their families.
