Very Poor Culture, No direction, Too Much Politics at the top
Administrator (Former Employee) –  Mississauga, ON12 February 2018
Older reviews are true, RSA Canada used to be a great place to work for... Not any more!
Company keeps cutting heads, loading work onto existing, already overwhelmed employees. There is absolutely no direction. Transformation has been going for years and they must have lost a track of where the company should be headed. Executive management works in their favor only; not providing any honest communication to the rest of the organization. True talent leaves, because org culture is so poor. Benefits aren't that great either.

Excellent Place to Work
Senior VBA Developer (Current Employee) –  Mississauga, ON15 October 2017
Management is decisive and supportive.

Technology is a little behind the curve, but we are adapting several new tools. Salesforce, MicroStrategy, JCL/FOCUS/Cobol/AS400 and Guidewire are all used internally.

BWOW (Better way of working) is strongly pushing for remote work.
Pros
Free coffee and parking in Mississauga

Sales Consultant & Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON2 May 2017
Nothing substantially great about RSA but also nothing really bad to say.

It is not a young environment so new grads could be a boring fit. They need more work place fun. Very tedious.

Belle entreprise avec des valeurs humaines. C'est une entreprise en progression.

Le management laisse à mon avis à travailler. Beaucoup de personnes qui sont en poste depuis longtemps. On sent que la progression est plus par réseautage que par les aptitudes requises.

Management is a revolving door
Manager, Sales Support and Operations (Former Employee) –  Mississauga, ON12 May 2016
The company is has no long term strategy. The business is not growing and the CEO is trying to thin out the organization and prepare it for a buyout. Their is basically no budget for any employee engagement activities. The salaries are generous as are the severance packages.

Poor management and 'Clique' feeling
customer service representative (Former Employee) –  St. John's, NL18 November 2015
Training provided is sub-standard with focus on 'lying' (withholding) important information from clients. Management not helpful in finding solutions only in pointing out problems. The 'Blame Game' is played on a daily basis and there is ZERO feeling of job security or possible chance of advancement.
Pros
Free coffee; The view
Cons
Management in position because of WHO they know

A good company if your are under 44 and have no life.
DIRECTOR (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON13 August 2015
RSA portrays itself to be a great place to work. Far from it. The company pushes a work hard culture but pays little respect to work-life balance. However, if you are a young "high potential" type then you may do well here. People over 45 yrs have little chance of being considered for promotions, however.
Pros
Pay well. Good benefits
Cons
Long hours. Ageist.

Poor management
Underwriting Assistant (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, BC8 October 2014
Lack of decision making of management. Very poor handling of situations arising. No integration whatsoever of new companies and very bad system (decision assist) which is excel based, unclear to say the least.
Too many managers, doing too little. Conservative risk selection. No team spirit as manager destroyed the original team spirit.
Unrealistic targets.
