Good place for start, kind people, but use old technologies and very old management. The policy is to take junior specialist for small salary and grow them to specialist.
RPM is a great place to start and grow your career. They offer multiple opportunities to grow within the company. They also have a lot of perks and fun activities throughout the year. I love working here.
Fun events, Close to Union Station, Friendly people
Just like any IT companies, they can have long hours
You need to be highly organized to work in this environment as priorities change depending on client needs. Good working culture and opportunities to collaborate when you develop a working relationship with the team. Communication barriers may also be a hindrance due to the diverse nature of the workforce. But its all a work in progress. Good listeners thrive in this environment. Overall great place to work, you wont always fit in everywhere anyway. So take it with a grain of salt.
They are very money oriented. Would rather spend on parties than paying their employees fair wages therefor turnover is high. Nepotism is favored. don't expect to be promoted unless you're someone's pet.
Long hours and unfair pay
Depending on your type if position, it can either be really fast paced or can really slow down. The work culture is great, really friendly and welcoming group. Have quite a few company outings where you can really be yourself and network. HR encourages you to keep progressing within the company. Work/home balance is pretty good!
I was contacted out of the blue by this company's HR off a website they couldn't (wouldn't) reveal, and after hearing the shtick, I decided to give them a go. Pros - company located downtown a minute's walk from Union Station Cons - software is archaic - company doesn't buy into ITIL, PMI, or IIBA ideologies - power is too concentrated among a handful of people who've lost touch with reality - the person sitting beside you could be gone one day without notice - pay is below par with their competition a few blocks away - advancement opportunities are few as those in management roles are very entrenched - team work is minimal - timelines are ridiculous (as little as 8 hours for a complete project including analysis, documentation, and updating the 'living' document in the group folder)
created training materials to support implementation of the first online support manual ever used in Canadian mutual fund back and front-office systems. Other responsibilities included: Delivery of training across Canada to support implementation of a new mutual fund sales system Delivery of IT and process training across Canada for new and existing computer applications
Your typical boring sit-at-your-desk-for-8-hours job. Old fashioned and outdated practices, company is run by 6 white men in their mid 50's who have a one-track mind, very little room to grow, no team atmosphere.
Excellent place to learn all about financial software. Room for advancement if you apply yourself and take the initiative to reach out to others. This is not a place to coast. If you are driven and can learn quickly then you will be very sucessful.
Lots of learning opportunities (Lunch 'n Learns), Social events, Steps from Union Station; Lots of work; Work with elite groups
Requires dedication to your craft. Long hours, when needed.
Very good company, fast paced and dynamic and lots of opportunity to learn. Writing System Requirement documents, testing, working with Developers and QA and meeting clients is part of a normal day.
not any that I can think of
Micromanaged, unfriendly atmosphere, not permitted to ask/work with co-workers. Learned QA testing in the testing and production environments, learnt the financial software and all about the financial type of accounts, TFSA, RRSP, RESP, etc. I learnt to write/understand business requirements with BAs, Developers, etc. Learnt to write, test and execute test plans, strategies and cases. Onsite web testing with our clients. Co-workers were not easy to approach and given the employee turnaround, lasting relationships were not feasible. Not enough time or support to meet deadlines, working overtime constantly, poor management. The most enjoyable part of the job was completing each task and learning something new everyday.
Learning financial type of accounts, software, etc
Poor Management, No compensation
