Quick summer job to make a lot of money
Food Runner/Busser/Server (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 22 November 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOverall this isn’t a bad job but my experience was completely different from everyone else’s. As a black person I got looked down upon I would work my butt off to try proving myself everyday and management still went around asking others if I was working… I also notice when you do a lot of hard work they ignore you and praise others that didn’t do anything. You have to treat people there how they treat you or else you’ll get walked on.
Pros
Free lunchs/snacks
Cons
Long hours, a very long commute if you don’t live close to cherry beach

Good Summer Job
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 28 October 2022
Overall an enjoyable seasonal job, largely because of the novelty of getting to work with boats. Workplace culture can be a hit or miss depending on how you get along with certain people. Management is both accommodating and hectic. Expect to be under-appreciated and no compensation for hard work.
Pros
Staff meals and meeting interesting people

Insights into Royal Canadian Yacht Club
Areas for improvement
- Energizing work tasks
- Sense of belonging
- Time and location flexibility
The team-members made it what it was
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 29 September 2022
Honestly a peaceful job, I wasn't working for advancement so I enjoyed where I was at for the time being. Everyone around me made me feel so welcomed and appreciated, like a little family. Definitely would have stayed if there were benefits or raises offered for the positions I worked.

Amazing Work Place
Bistro Chef De Partie (Former Employee) - Yorkville, ON - 14 July 2020
Anyone who has a desire and tough skin to learn and grow in food production, I would hardly recommend working at the RCYC. Extremely knowledgable and approachable Executive Chef, talented Sous Chefs, and a great team. Expect hard work, stressful situations, and occasional yelling. But it's pretty normal in any kitchen.

But management leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Not sure if they still pay market but was very competitive when I was there.

Cool place to meet and network with executives for college students
Summer Pro Shop Associate/Junior Bookeeper (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 1 March 2020
If you're a college student, this is probably one of the best jobs during the summer. You get to learn about different types of yachts, tie a knot, and maybe network with some members.

F&B Dept
Banquet Captain (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 9 September 2019
The management made this place a great place to work and cared about the welfare of their employees. The summer is the busiest season of 5month with very long hours but the offseason is incredibly slow with the exception of December.

Stressful, poorly managed, and overly political work environment.
Server/Bartender (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 28 August 2019
The management is a joke, its more common of the members to be rude, work/life balance was nonexistent (15 days work with 1 day off?). But you learn how to deal with difficult clients pretty quickly, and how to keep your cool and disassociate from your personality in the face of disrespectful club members. Due to this, I would vouch for the RCYC to be an excellent place to learn how to serve in an extremely stressful environment.

boring but kind atomosphere
Receptionist/Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 20 May 2019

Stay away from this place
Manager (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 8 December 2018
Horrible management and the staff is greatly underappreciated. Everyone in this place is either a senior manager or a supervisor telling staff from different departments what to do and how to do it. The pay is low and there are no other incentives. To top it all there are way too many politics, meaning sometimes the right decisions cannot be taken for fear of upsetting a member or a senior manager. It is not worth it to go above and beyond since this won't get you anywhere.

Great place to work if you need money and are willing to work insane hours during the summer.
Banquet Event Assistant, bartender, and waitress (Current Employee) - 141 St. George St - 27 July 2018
Great place to work if you need money, but must be willing to work sometimes insane shifts and hours (especially if you're in banquets). Great place to meet people and new friends, everyone is super friendly. On your feet a lot, so must be physically capable. Hardest part of the job are the hours and how much it physically takes a toll on you. Excellent summer job.
Pros
Staff meals are ok, supervisors and managers are super nice and approachable, very flexible hours
Cons
long hours, physically demanding

Positive place to work with a very professional management
Food server (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 23 July 2018
All the servers, busboys are mostly there for one season only. It would be better if the Club provided with an opportunity for such personnel to work full-time with an opportunity to grow within the organization. That would allow good and hard-working people to stay for a much longer period with the organization.
Overall, management is very professional, nice and polite. The workplace culture changes from year to year because 90% of people are always new.
Pros
Work on the island, fresh air
Cons
Snobby members

Stiffled atmosphere
Human Resources Intern (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 11 October 2017
Really stuffy persona everyone has. They try to have inclusion but it seems like just for show. They try to create employee rograms but don't really try to reach employee perspective.
Pros
some employee perks
Cons
stuffy atmosphere

A great place for a summer job
Rigger and Assistant Travel Lift Operator (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 30 December 2014
I absolutely loved working as part of the Marine Yard at RCYC. The gentlemen I worked with were very wise, knowledgeable and encouraging.
I learnt that I certainly would like to continue working in the Marine Industry and am inspired to learn and do as much as I can, even if it's not working with RCYC directly.
I was hesitant to be the only female in a group of 15 men, however I have not only gained so much confidence in my abilities as a person but have gained some really great friends. Working on Toronto Island is very peaceful and allows a few relaxing moments on the commute to work.
Pros
Coworkers, Setting and Location
Cons
Wages
