Demanding but rewarding career
Law Enforcement Professional (Former Employee) - Grande Prairie, AB - 11 September 2017
The RCMP as an organization has a proud history and the people I worked with were tremendous overall. The organization does have a few problems though. One is an ever-growing mandate and management that seldom says "no". The other is upper management is hyper-sensitive to media coverage and sometimes makes decisions that are designed to minimize criticism rather than do what is best.
Pros
great range of career options, the ability to work across the country, and even have international assignments, Decent wages and a good pension program.
Cons
Can be demanding and members are often judged on the actions of other members of the organization.

Law Enforcement (Former Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 16 February 2015
The last position I held was the the Prime Minister Protection Detail, where our primary client is Canada's Prime Minister, and secondly his family. There I was part of the PM's Protection team, either as a Bodyguard, or Chauffeur in the Motorcade, in Canada, or wherever the PM went. When not at one of the previous functions, I was either the Bodyguard, or Chauffeur of the PM's family members.
At INTERPOL Ottawa, I was charged with assisting in locating wanted individuals from either other INTERPOL Bureaus, or Canadian Police Services.
I could say that what I enjoyed most was when I located an Internationally wanted "dangerous" criminal, and brought him to the requesting agency.
Pros
The chance to do various jobs and functions.
Cons
Long hours, and days away from family.
