It’s okay! A platform but a lot of self managing
Instructor (Current Employee) - Online - 23 May 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe reviews that say it takes a long time to build up clients is entirely true and it is hard to get your schedule super full. Messages passed to the office don’t always make it to the teacher like why someone is cancelling or why they are unable to make lessons which can be frustrating, if people are cancelling and you don’t know why it can be hard to improve and if it’s cost etc. you aren’t told. You’re also told when you start that office staff should always identify themselves at the end of messages so you can know who to follow up with and that rarely happens. Teachers work stat holidays but office staff don’t so if someone calls in to cancel or is sick no one to transfer over. So all in all great idea and great staff trying their best but it ends up being a lot of work on your own.
Pros
Benefits, high pay, flexible
Cons
Communication lacking, very much on your own

Fun place to work, if you can get any
Music Teacher (Current Employee) - Hamilton, ON - 30 March 2021
I've been working here a good while. I love the group, it has a great atmosphere, and they pay fairly. However, it is difficult to get hours. I have been here over 4 months, and have yet to get more than a few classes a week.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Short, sporatic hours

1 April 2021Thanks you for your feedback. It has Indeed been difficult to get hours especially during lockdown. Know that we are actively promoting each one of our teachers on an ongoing basis. Please reach out directly and we would be happy to assist with your concerns.
Been a steady source of income through Covid!
Piano Teacher (Current Employee) - Hamilton, on - 25 November 2020
They seem to get a fairly decent inflow of students! I started working here in March and I was surprised how quickly they filled up my open days. Considering leaving the other school I've been working for as the pay at Rockstar is much better and you get benefits if you give them enough hours!

Benefits!
Band Teacher (Current Employee) - Vaughan, ON - 10 May 2019
Rockstar's got a great culture and the philosophy to teach kids not only privately but also in bands really works!
One of the only schools that I've worked at where the owners actually care about quality and treat their staff well. Work at your own pace, set your own wage, benefits (even for part time hours). It's as good as it gets teaching music lessons.
Pros
Benefits, Salary, Set your own wage, travel pay
Cons
Not enough for a full time income

15 May 2019Thank you for your kind review! We know that music instructors will often work multiple "gigs" and often rely on teaching as their steady income source. You work hard teaching and in return we believe that you should earn a sustainable income and have access to resources such as benefits to live a quality life!
Best music school to work at
Music Instructor (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 6 March 2017
Great team culture, flexible schedule and the boss is really awesome. The compensation is fair and they're the only music school around that offers benefits to its part-time employees.
Pros

Cons
Have to drive to students houses

Official response from Rockstar Music
15 May 2019Thank you for your feedback! We introduced benefits knowing that no other music school is offering it's teachers benefits. Typically a working musicians income is generated by performing gigs, working part-time and teaching. Teaching is often the steady portion of the income and so it should follow that teaching should also be how musicians make their "living". We believe that our team of music instructors is our number one asset, and we wanted to make sure our team is happy, healthy, and full of energy. We're glad to have you on the team and we will continue to support and innovate for our Rockstar team!
