Productive and Healthy Work Environment

Indeed featured review

Best place to work at. Truly healthy work environment. Career growth and advancement is paramount. Work/life balance is great for the most part. Really hoping it remains intact

Poor upper management

Corporate office has no idea what is happening in the homes. They make decisions without any input from supervisors or staff. They don’t visit the homes. Teams are burnt out and staff turnover is high. Used to be such an amazing place to work

Great pay, great workplace. Lots of learning. Strange work culture.

After working for a few years for the Region of Peel, I can say that the pay is absolutely great however, that comes with a price. 1. You will start with a 3-month contract, which is reasonable but staying like that for years? Not so nice. No benefits, no commitment. You are disposable...2. It's absolutely discouraging when you have been doing the same job for a while, getting extension after extension to your contract, but when the law allows for no more extensions, in order to become a permanent employee, you have to go through this absurd interview process where they interview you as you were an external, inexperienced candidate where all of your proven experience, good performance and suitability resets back to zero in the name of "equality". This is to allow everybody in the workplace to have the same opportunity to get YOUR job. In my opinion, that's not equality, that's disregarding the employee's performance and placing him in a disadvantageous position by interviewing other people who might speak well at the interview, but who haven't proven their performance by actually doing the job. Frankly, I think it's ridiculous. Now, if you are willing to spend a few years as a temp -some co-workers at the Region spoke of up to 7 years before becoming permanent-making good money with no benefits, then go ahead. If you are looking for a permanent position because you have the skills, experience and suitability, then no, this is not your place to go.

Pros

Great pay and life balance. Lots of learning.

Cons

Hard to get a permanent position.

Can be a fun place to work, but it depends on the department you're working in

I have moved around a lot, so it has been beneficial for me as I have worked in numerous areas in Public Health. The training could be better, especially with the work from home aspect. It would be a good idea if a mentor was assigned

I am immensely grateful for the opportunities provided by this employer.

At O&Y, I was given some amazing opportunities that allowed me to grow and develop as a Property Manager. My portfolio was incredibly diverse with a wide variety of clients and properties. this allowed me to hone my skills as a supervisor, financial manager, service provider and administrator.
