Unbelievably stressful.
Barista/Cashier (Former Employee) –  Unionville, ON7 September 2019
An incredibly lonely, stressful, depressing experience. Unwelcoming environment, awful customers, horrible management. If you have a history of mental illness of some sort, apply with extreme caution, as it can tend to flare up.

The wages you are given are way too low for the amount of work you're expected to do: scrub the washroom clean. Clean, peel, cut 4 different fruits, spend all day peeling, cutting, chopping mangoes non-stop. Tie 15 boxes, flatten them down, take the garbage, compost, recycling out. Make 7 different drinks, all varying sugar levels, in less than 5 minutes, while a customer who has never done a day of retail in their life believes that a day or two ordering at a bubble tea store is somehow equal to the amount of drilling that you've gone through for the recipe to get into your head. Watch as someone breaks the lid on their drink for the umpeenth time, spilling it everywhere on the floor and countertop from the flimsy paper straws, and smile as you insist that it's okay. You take out the mop for the second time that week. Smile all day, no breaks, your back hurts, but you have to learn to deal with it. Deal with angry customers, angry coworkers looking for an outlet, and an angry manager who's annoyed at something that one of your coworkers did, but sees you as an easy target. Don't try to explain. It's your fault now, and you take it as it is.

The hours are incredibly long, it's constantly understaffed, and the manager doesn't even bother to hire any new people, leading to back-to-back shifts that leave you completely exhausted. You can only pray
more... on the weekends as hoards of customers roll in, complaining about the 20 minute waiting period despite the two people on shift, and the 30 previous customers crowding around the hot, sweaty store. And you can only take this with a smile on your face.

In the beginning, it's good. You're assigned to cashier duty, and your fellow coworkers tend to be kind in nature. But then you begin your duty as a barista- you're always doing it wrong. You put one too many ice cubes. You overestimated how much liquid you need to pour. You haven't scrutinized the exact nanometer where your drink should be. 500 mL, down three. 700 mL, up one. 1000 mL, down two. You're directly in the manager's line of fire, and God forbid you mess up in front of them, you get chewed out in front of both customers and coworkers alike. You begin to stress out about work. You can't stand to come in. Your anxiety spikes as you think about whether or not you'll be yelled at again that day. And it continues, on and on until your time is up or you quit.

All this. For $14 per hour.

Micro management, regional or store manager, your treated equally, broken Promises, lack of experience people. Schedules posted every Monday and if anyone is not performing, you will get penalized by not getting scheduled by the owner. Nothing is put in place, human rights does not exist.

Not memorable
Barista (Former Employee) –  Mississauga, ON25 June 2019
Real Fruit felt like it hit a dead end. There was high percentage of turnover in staff and the work morale was pretty low. Employees can feel a lot of pressure to perform well due to the standards being fairly high. The most enjoyable thing about working at Real Fruit is definitely the coworkers. Although the time I spent with some of them were brief, we all came from the same place.
Pros
Good hours
Cons
Strict, serious

Pros
Awesome co-workers

Taking days off were simple and they had flexible work hours. Availabilities were written into a group chat and a work schedule would made around everyone's availability.

Ok.
Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON4 April 2019
I had a good experience there. But honestly, the most enjoyable moments was dealing with the customers and not with the co-workers. They're like a family but they aren't totally open for who is joining just now. Also, they expect that you learn all tasks as soon as you can - this means like 2 weeks at maximum. This is ok. The big problem is that 1) they expect that you learn by yourself. 2) sometimes, when you ask for someone teach you something, they just do with some kind of resentment. 3) sometimes is too too busy, that spend some time teaching/learning something is impossible.
Finally, somedays the mood of place was bad. I needed to deal with unrespectable behaviours just while I was doing my task.

Horrible work culture and management
Barista/Cashier (Former Employee) –  North York, ON9 July 2018
Management was beyond unprofessional. The entire company has Chinese workplace politics, where basically everyone tries to screw each other over. Managers will discuss each others mistakes in group chats, your co-workers will make you report their mistakes as your own, and nobody trains you but they all you to memorize every recipe by the second day. Furthermore, they will force you to work at other locations with different managers, some who have a grudge against your primary location manager, and they'll watch you like a hawk and try to get you fired.

They're also trying to hire more Canadian citizens/permanent residence holders since they can work longer hours, but not many are willing to work under those conditions...

Lastly they never pay properly. They forget hours and shifts and expect you to clock out early and keep working.

The only good thing is the flexible shifts. If you're going to school, going on vacation, etc. They won't fire you for it, like most big corporation companies.
Pros
lack of professionalism allows vacations even in your first 3 months
Cons
no training, managers are immature, boss has crazy mood swings, pays late, lack of care for drinks made
