Excellent Building Science Firm
Building Science Technologist (Current Employee) –  Vancouver4 April 2018
I find it to be a great place to work. A typical work day is very busy, lots of project work and client communications, and meetings/questions/discussions with coworkers. The building science expertise at RDH is industry leading. Education from senior staff as part of project work is excellent. Management is good. Many opportunities for learning and growth, though transition/advancement from technical work to management is difficult primarily due to workload.

The company has an excellent overall culture. Coworkers are dedicated to doing really good work, and striving to be the best in the industry. The best part of the job is the varied and interesting work. Every project is a unique opportunity to learn and provide innovative solutions. Another great part is the co-workers and culture.

The hardest part of the job is workload. There is always more work than time, and constantly shifting priorities are often hard to manage and can cause stress.
Pros
learning, interesting, share ownership, industry recognized
Cons
work load, longer work days

Best in Building Enclosure Engineering Consulting
Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, BC4 April 2018
The technical capabilities of RDH is second to none. RDH is seen as a leader and pioneer of the industry, and the minds of the staff make it so. Having been at 4 engineering firms previous to RDH, it is impressive how good the technical minds at RDH are.

The quality of projects are very good as well. Not that there's anything wrong with working on small, one-off projects, RDH routinely seems to get the high-profile projects around town, a lot of the times sole-sourced.

Everyone, from junior to the most senior staff are genuinely more than willing to help. This is the first place I've been to where this is actually the case - other places say they're a "team environment", but when you hit the ground running, people in other companies give you a dirty look or tell you they're "too busy" when you ask for help. Not at RDH - any time I needed advice, help on a project, fill staffing needs on a project, or just a sounding board, the people here are very willing to help you.

Work life balance is non-existent if you want to succeed or be seen as an asset by senior management, but the rewards can make up for it. Junior and intermediate staff do get compensated with overtime pay, but senior staff who get shouldered with a lot of project work and non-project work routinely have to work late into the night and weekends. Although management verbally encourage work-life balance, those who routinely put in hours upon hours of overtime seem to get congratulated and/or rewarded (with share offers and other small benefits).

There is the odd "strong personality" types at RDH, but
more... they're few and far between and that's not unlike any other company. Senior management seem to recognize who these people are and address issues related to them by distancing them from day to day project related issues and staff.

RDH is also the first company I've come across where corporate management seems to truly care for the well-being of its employees. Group Leaders are routinely asked about and instructed to reporting on their respective Group's job satisfaction, happiness overall, etc. Other places I've worked at seem to just pay lip service on one hand, and crack the whip with the other. Employee well-being and happiness seems to be truly a concern for corporate management.

Pros
Great technical minds, management seems to really care for employees, great quality of projects
Cons
Non-existent work-life balance, those who punish themselves with overtime seem to get rewarded more than those who don't.
