Health & Safety Specialist (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 13 December 2022
I had a great mentor as a supervisor, we had a very open communication relationship. I learned a lot while I worked there. I also had the opportunity to share and promote a healthy workplace that spoke openly about mental health and the importance of communication.
Pros
Independant work environment and my supervisor was a great mentor
Cons
Had to have a degree to get a promotion

Good Company
Tech Specialist (Former Employee) - Guelph, ON - 22 August 2022
Good company in terms of management and teamwork. Pay can be quite sporadic as there seems to be less qualified members that get paid much more than qualified staff.

Equipment Manager (Former Employee) - Guelph, ON - 8 August 2022
Good company to work for I spent a total of 16 years, there are some good people that work here, but as in any business you also have some bad apples that create problems for others

Great place to work, if you’re a newly graduate
Project Engineer (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 12 July 2022
Get to have great field experience, but it does have a high turnover rate, meaning people are leaving this company usually after 1 year. Management is pretty much non-existence.
Pros
Pay is good
Cons
On-site office is pretty terrible place to work at

My immediate boss the office manager was absolutely amazing to work for and learn from. She is fair hard working and allows you to learn by helping you when you make mistakes

Terrible place to work
Signal Maintainer (Former Employee) - Ontario - 29 March 2022
Training is non-existent and has caused a lot of blind leading the blind scenarios. First week of training consisted of watching videos made 10 years ago for "railway safety". Then after taking the quiz they stick you in a room by yourself for the rest of the week and give you a USB with poorly made PDF files and tell you to read the info. Second week they pair you with someone who is at most 2 years on the job and has no idea what they are doing. The people who know what they are doing either quit or refuse to train the new people. They rotate their shift every 2 weeks. Lastly everyone here is only looking out for themselves, do not trust anyone here. Many of them who stay are just trying to climb the ladder and will throw you under the bus as soon as anything bad happens.
Pros
pay
Cons
12 hour shifts, rotating between midnights and days every 2 weeks, poor training, poor work culture

Learned great in technical terms but Hard way

Horrible management
Machine Operator/ boom truck operator (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 26 October 2021
Worst company I’ve ever worked for no communication or planning is possible. Management uses employees as fall people for their mistakes. Good wages but useless work all work that has been done usually has to be redone 2 to 3 times because no one knows what their doing. Good job if you have no where else to go, but this company will use and abuse you and throw you under the bus to save themselves. Also Human Resources is corrupt and will lie every time you need to talk to them their on vacation even if their not.
Pros
Free lunches on weekends
Cons
Horrible management

Pros
Good safety protocols
Cons

Great people and projects
Health and Safety Advisor (Former Employee) - Guelph, ON - 11 March 2021
Great group of guys, care about their work and each other. Still a little old school in the workplace harassment and discrimination from senior management across the border in corporate, but overall great company.
Pros
Good pay, benefits, and people
Cons
Not much work life balance

Disorganized management in signals is horrendous
Signalman (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 25 October 2020
Great money good benefits the signals department is horrendously managed. Managers expect you to go out and work but provided no track time or even knew you had to call in advance for rule 842 protection. Safety is let’s say only a priority when they want it to be they expect you to reverse equipment and hi rail units on foot without a radio sometimes for a mile or 2 at night. The construction side was no better management actually knows what their doing in that department only problem is it’s very cliquey so if you don’t become buddies with supervisors and foremen they just write you off. 10/10 would not recommend anyone working here
Pros
Great wage/benefits
Cons
Management doesn’t care about employees just the $

Lots of work
Heavy Equipment Technician (Former Employee) - Cochrane, AB - 19 April 2020
You are not treated the best, just a number for most of the employees. I was lucky to work with just a select few guys as mechanics and we had a lot more freedom
