Depending on which location you work at, the customer service can be trying. The tenants have a lot of specific needs or unique situations, which public storage cannot accommodate. So you must say ‘no’ very often. It’s draining on the soul. Especially when it seems that for such a service, there should be more staff on hand, to help customers, and also help other staff members. Public storage lets down everyone, customers, and employees, alike. All the burden is put on the employees, who are treated like a human shield for the company. Employees are trained to say “yes”, but actually ‘no’, in the most runaround kind of way. This is done to the point that it cause a constant pile-up of tension and stress, leading to nervous ticks ( ie. twitching eyes (the PS twitch) ). The amount employees are paid, doesn’t warrant the amount of responsibility. Because of this, they can’t find employees, since long before a pandemic. Since they refuse to pay fairly, current staff suffers with pay that can’t pay the bills, and zero support at work. Good luck calling in sick if ever needed. They won’t love you for that. Customers also suffer because of the lack of staff, which they take out on the existing staff. It’s a vicious cycle and I wouldn’t recommend that anyone offer themselves up as a sacrifice for the company by working there. They are like Weyland-yutani.

Fun workplace

Probably the easiest workplace I've ever been in. The culture is great, headed by a fantastic District Manager. The work is manageable, but the pay isn't enough where one might have to work another job to live a little.

Pros

The workload is pretty manageable, and there are lean months when things slow down significantly.

Poor district manager useless in every sense of the word

Some of the coworkers were ok to work with but most of them were useless and didn't understand the concept of work. Contracts for renting units were hard to understand.

Toxic place

No chance to advance they do not care for experience they want cheap labour no value for current employees cheap company looking for cheap labour. Schedule not steady, unrealistic expectations.

Good Place to Work Overall

Not the best base pay, but they offer pretty good bonuses and benefits. With all the extras, its actually better than most. They have a drug plan that you have to pay for, but its pretty cheap. My bonus was good and depends on what stores you get assigned to. They have Christmas partys and stuff, and overall its fun. They have a RRSP matching thing, which is like free money. I did not pout money in it, but i wih i did now. Not alot of people working at one place, so it can be a little lonely, but for me was good. I would recommend for sure.

Great place

Working as a Property Manager at one of the Mississauga location since 2014. Good pay with great benefits. Job includes Administration, some accounting, customer service, little bit maintenance/cleaning etc. Very relaxing with less stress, lovely atmosphere, Management/District Managers are very accommodating and always ready to help. Great chances for the promotion.

The environment can be difficult to navigate at times.. Public Storage is no different from any other org...There are moments of bliss and ignorance! Relaxed approach however things get done... Human Resources rep lacks knowledge and experience...no education?

Management

Very dictatorial type of management approach. You do what you are told, follow the script; if you do not memorize the script, then you are expected to read it verbatim. Who knows the customer in front of you could be management

The best place to work and grow !

10 Years as Property Manager and those were my golden years. Co workers used to be like my family members. Awesome place to work and build your careers. Mentors are so affectionate and friendly.

Could be great

The type of job is great. You have enough to do to keep busy and active. It is the management that ruins it. Toxic managers, toxic supervisors, thefts, rudeness, the list goes on. My experience was with two toxic managers who talked down to us like we were trash, broke into lockers of customers they didnt like, refused to follow rules, did no work themselves but put it on their co-workers and treated customers rudely.

Wonderful place to work.

The culture at Public Storage is amazing. Everyone is so positive and upbeat. There is no gossip which is so refreshing. Coworkers and managers are so encouraging. I love working here.

Great people to work with. Does not pay well. Lots of job requirements including but not limited to, customer service, data entry, and lots of cleaning both inside and outside.

Difficult schedule and no communication

Head Office and management were never on the same page. A physically and emotionally very demanding job with small salary. Management was never satisfied with results. Although the title was manager, we have no power in hiring, firing or any important decisions. Huge staff turnover. For every 8 hires, 1 would stay. The others left when they realized what the job entailed.

Very routine work

The job is 50% janitor and 50% customer service. Co-workers good.. HR unhelpful. Minimum support from the management who do not appreciate your opinion.

awful place

Never organized low low pay for amount of work. No advancement. Management doesn't help you at al. if you suggest new ways to do things you get fired. They want the most for little pay. Abuse by management and customers

Arrogant Boss / Low pay

Work is easy but too many things to do, No appreciation and very low pay. Start pay 14.75 $ but you are responsible for Cash, Cleaning and Calling etc etc. For everything you have to deal with the District managers and if you are not a fan then you are screwed. You will not get promotions, no pay increase and working every random days of the week. Labour laws doesn't exist here. Human resource manager is not listening to the staff. HR manager is just to send job posting and not to take care of people. For everything you are on your own because managers and cooperate is one team and relief mangers and property staff opposite team.

The worse Company Ever

The reporting and managerial structure is so awful. They ask customers to write reviews about them so they can get good name but if you get inside you realize they are all insensitive towards customers. All they know is money and poor customer service...If you can play the negative you are promoted

Poisonous culture, incompetent managers.

In one sentence. NEVER WORK THERE! Poisonous culture, incompetent managers, lots of discrimination eventhough major employees are not caucasians. Basically, they want you to work for free, because the salary doesn't go with the workloads.

Organizational challenges at all levels

The company prides themself in being a leader in the industry but more attention is required to actual “lead” than just speak of it. The Alberta market has major staffing issues and deep seeded moral issues and HQ has no plan in place to correct or support and would rather ignore the problem than address it. Be very cautious and ask lots of questions before joining this organization.

Don't work here, save yourself!

HR is AWFUL! They only have one HR rep for the whole company, tragic. Company has many caucasian people in management and upper levels. Lack of representation and diversity in the office.
