If your lazy, this job isn’t for you.
Early mornings (up to 2am start times) can be difficult, but if you put your head down and work hard, it can be very beneficial.

Good job if you need work but they will drain the life out of you. All smiles in front of you but behind your back all they care about are the orders and it does not end. Total sweatshop and it is getting worse. Dont waste your time woring for these guys. The owner also owns part of Islands West and they are the same...another poorly run hellhole.

Fast Paced Physical Labor Job with Great Benefits
Baker (Former Employee) –  Saanichton, BC12 January 2018
Portofino is a fast paced environment, which I love because you are always busy and moving.
Management always seemed fair and you get rewarded for hard work. With the bonuses and reviews I was able to make a very competitive wage in just a short period of time.
It is hard work which I love, but have heard people complaining about.
Job security is great, especially being apart of such a fast growing business.
Pros
Good Pay, Hard Work, Growing Business
Cons
Shifts can run into Overtime

Delivery Driver (Current Employee) –  Victoria, BC7 January 2018
If you don't mind waking up early, it's a good job. The pay is pretty good. The health and dental plans should cover more but, I have seen worst packages.
Pros
Free bread and other goodies

Floor Associate (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC9 November 2017
Micro managed by one old fashioned out of date, unsafe boss with no little understanding of safety. Accident waiting. Management is pleasant at times. Management is obviously annoyed by owners ways.
Pros
no layoffs
Cons
50's thinking is terrible

Bakers assistant (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC14 July 2017
Portofino is a great place to work, they try to be as flexible as possible with scheduling ( within limits ). If you work hard you will be rewarded. Portofino provides great training for new employees, you won't feel alone! There are advancement opourtunities for those who put in the time and effort. The job is very physical and fast paced, the days always go by quickly. The biggest con about working here would be the physical work and the heat in mid summer. The most enjoyable part of the job was learning about bread and baked goods as well as the friendly employees and supervisors.
Pros
Some free bread, friendly people, rewarded for hard work
Cons
Tiring physical work

Portofino Bakery is a great place to work. The staff are wonderful and their is a strong postive workplace culture. The leadership team is very encouraging and supportive of staff developing and growing their baking skills, often current staff are promoted to leadership roles. I would highly recommend working for this company.

baking department (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC19 April 2017
Terrible and inept management. Administration of this company is still operating as if it was a family bakery in 1950. Just keep looking.... you can do better.
Pros
nice coworkers
Cons
lousy pay, mindless work, no advancement potential.

Night Janitor (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC26 December 2016
As a night janitor you are relegated to one of five shifts. So once you figure out the shift you work the most the job becomes repetetive. The other workers are all cool, and fun people. However the long nights and trying to get use to the shift work is hard.
Pros
Free Product
Cons
Going to sleep during the day

A great employer and great co-workers.
Driver (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC23 September 2015
I worked as a driver for this company.
It was one of the best jobs and by far the best employer. My co-workers were just a bunch of great guys to work with and were always willing to give a helping hand.
The administration is great. Flexible, fair and are understanding of you make a mistake.
Raises are fair and are judged by performance. There are also company benefits that include medical and insurance.
I am a workaholic and if I like the working environment I will work as many hours as I can get. Which was just the case for me.
Pros
benefits, long hours if willing
Cons
I had to quit
