Delivery Driver in Saanichton, BC
on 28 November 2020
Easy work but terrible management
The delivery driver position itself is easy and having 4 days on, 3 days off is nice. However, some routes are shorter than others meaning you get paid less even though you work efficiently. This job should be on salary so that you can make a decent wage and work at a quick pace instead of purposely taking your time in order to make a livable wage. My biggest issue with the delivery driver position is management. The department is constantly understaffed and has the highest amount of turnover that I have ever seen (and I worked retail as a teenager). Due to the understaffing, new hires receive inadequate training on a limited amount of routes and are expected to deliver on unfamiliar routes alone with little guidance. Calling management for help when unsure about a delivery location was pointless as they were sometimes unfamiliar with the locations. It was best to call other drivers who had done the routes however they were often too busy to answer. The position was also unfair to new hires as veteran drivers were often scheduled on one route every week whereas newer drivers would do a different route every day. The starting pay is alright. Benefits don't kick in until 6 months which is unfortunate for those who don't stick it out. You're supposed to get a bonus after 6 months however I had heard from veteran drivers that the 6 month bonus often gets delayed (in this case a driver was supposed to get his in the summer but it was delayed until December). Also if you book time off, expect to be working 6-8+ days in a row. Also expect them to call you in on every day off.

Very good overall
The company provides many ongoing updates on changes and the successes of the bakery. The coworkers are very cooperative. A usual day in portofino bakery for me starts with packaging the bread we sell to our customers. The workplace is multicultural and accepts people in different cultures.

Good employer to gain full residency in Canada
This is a job that pays higher than minimum wage. You can be giving multiple roles, good place. Benefits included that you have to wait for, but wages increases every year for all roles. Everyone receives a bonus too. The workers and management are friendly but for new workers the pace can be fast.

Great culture and office environment
I really enjoy working at Portofino! I have only been at Portofino for a few months, but everyone has been so welcoming and friendly. The culture at Portofino is positive. The people I work with are hardworking and really care about the Company. It feels good to work at a Company where management cares and the product is great. I enjoy going into the office every day. You get free product and great benefits!

Learning new thing
Portofino is working very hard to expand and at the same time take care of all employee needs. The company is willing to forgo some potential customers due to not wanting to overwork the employees. Management is also very much willing to help in production if needed. The employees are very helpful with each other in general.
