Most enjoyable part of the job is working with all of the wonderful & fun staff at Pool Supplies Canada.

Superb Management
Shipping Service and Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON7 February 2019
The typical work day is physically stimulating but not physically straining. The work hours during the summer are consistent but start to die down by the end of the summer. The type of work requires enough focus to get through the day quickly but also not enough that inhibits you from engaging with people around you. The work is design in such a way that allows you to easily get help whenever you are unsure.

Management is very open minded to how everything operates and are willing to listen to suggestions / problems at any point. Management is very understanding towards employees, and take the time to build a comfortable and fun workplace culture.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the day by day interactions with the warehouse crew.

The hardest part of the job is getting use to the product processing at first, as it's a long line of simple steps that can be easily overlooked, and by the end challenge comes from getting use to processing products quickly and accurately.
Pros
Great Management
Cons
The work environment can be very dusty and dirty.

awful
minion (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON5 February 2019
Pay is way below average. Work load is insane. Management gossips and is really young. Will use office email system to gossip about employees. Staff always afraid they will get fired, high turn over. HR is always writing people up for minor things like helping another co-worker with their work. Pizza lunches are paid by freight companies not Pool supplies. Only owners favourites get picked for paid vacation. Will make office staff work in warehouse without safety shoes.
Pros
not much
Cons
high mental stress for little pay

Over worked and undervalued
It doesn't matter unless you're in the club (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON27 January 2019
"Carrot dangling" runs out once you reach full potential in managements eyes. You're encouraged Not to ask for a raise even if you've met and excelled passed goals.
- Policies are set in place for bullying, and rules set for company chat service but are Not followed by management.
- "Clique-like" atmosphere between managers makes them difficult to approach.
- Zero advancement opportunities available
- Selective favoritism towards company trips, phones and other perks/opportunities.
- Finger pointing and blaming instead of constructive changes happen often.
- Massive staff turnover claiming lack of work even when other departments are struggling and working overtime
- Last, even if you put in 100% you are discredited by others or management
Pros
Pizza maybe 3 times a year
Cons
Never know when you could be let go

Official response from Pool Supplies Canada
28 January 2019

Pool Supplies Canada has previously offered many perks including company trips to all-inclusive resorts, free food including coffee, donuts, pancake breakfasts, pizza, subs and food trucks. We have a company Christmas party every year with a full buffet dinner, door prizes worth several hundred dollars are available to be won and children of our employees receive gifts. We have previously offered discounts on pool and toy products for our staff and employees benefit from team outings such as movie nights which are paid for by the company. You have benefited from all of these perks, including numerous trips with the company.

All employees are given equal opportunity to grow and advance within the organization. Wages are reviewed annually and employees who meet or exceed expectations of management are given raises.

We continually ask for feedback from staff to better our processes and company culture through performance reviews, anonymous questionnaires, coaching sessions and exit interviews. We would have been happy to discuss and address any concerns you may have had during your tenure here. Unfortunately, you chose to decline the opportunity to do an exit interview which also would have been a good opportunity to discuss your concerns.

Not a pleasant experience
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON14 September 2018
Not much has changed since 2014. Since many employees are terminated every fall, they are treated as though they are replaceable. Management is very young and there is too much office politics and favouritism. I would not be surprised if management writes or pushes employees to write good reviews for these positions. The most enjoyable part of working is dealing with the customers. It is a good temporary summer job, but don't expect to advance within the company. Neither are employees adequately trained for the role, they just push you onto the phones.

Free lunches

The best job I've ever had.
Shipper/Receiver (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON13 August 2018
I was first hired at Pool Supplies Canada in the summer of 2014. As soon as I walked in, I felt as though I was part of a family, where I was cared for and supported both professionally and personally. I returned for 2 more stints after my initial summer.

Even as a summer student, you are treated as an integral part of the company. The skills you learn at this job are applicable in many other areas, and will set you up for success in your future career. The management goes above and beyond to create a true team atmosphere among all employees; I guarantee they will be the best people you will ever work with. No matter how physically difficult/busy the job is, getting to work with this team makes it worth it.

If you are looking for a challenging, rewarding summer job that gives you stability, transferrable skills, and a great team to work with, look no further than Pool Supplies Canada.
Pros

Best people you will ever work for
Freight Department Manager (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON31 July 2018
Working for Pool Supplies Canada is an easy choice in my opinion. The managers are extremely personable and friendly, the co-workers are awesome to the point where down the line you even think of them as friends before co-workers. There is no doubt that the work is difficult as it is physical in nature and the hours can run quite long, however the skills you will gain moving forward will transfer into fields you wouldn't have thought of. All of this coming from a satisfied former employee

Excellent work environment!
Warehouse Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Burlington, ON31 July 2018
A typical day at work involves packaging orders, double checking, wrapping skids, and loading trucks. The job is not overly difficult and is very easy to catch on to. The best part of the job is the co-workers and warehouse managers. By far the best management I've ever worked for as they care about you and your future. Overall a FANTASTIC person to work for! A lot of people complain about the heat, but it is not that bad and you will get use to it. If you don't mind being on your feet and working hard there are no cons to this job.

Good summer job with overtime opportunities
Shipper/Receiver (Current Employee) –  3230 Mainway Burlington, ON30 July 2018
Working as a Shipper/Receiver at Pool Supplies Canada is a good summer employment opportunity with overall good co-workers that make the days more enjoyable.

Peak season in the warehouse can get quite hectic due to the large volume of orders coming in, but regardless it is still a (more than average) fun place to work. The job itself is not very difficult but requires speed and accuracy.

Both in-warehouse and in-office management exceed normal expectations and offer a supportive role to their employees.
Pros
Pizza lunches during overtime, company paid wing night
Cons
No A/C in warehouse, slightly underpaid

Fast Paced, Challenging, Always Learning!
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Burlington, Ontario28 June 2018
Being a seasonal business, working at Pool Supplies Canada ishectic in summer, but staff are always taken care of (being rewarded with Tim Cards or free lunch for your hard work) during the busiest time of the year and management is not only very knowledgeable and willing to help you but are extremely easy to connect with. The owners are very hands on with the business! After of the busy time of year time off is easy to book and there are always lots of opportunities to learn and do new things.

At the end of the day, it's all about customer service, and staff are trained to go above and beyond to help customers with their issues.
Pros
Staff rewarded during busy times of year, room to grow

Very demanding for little pay
customer service (Former Employee) –  Burlington, ON15 March 2014
If you like having time off (vacation) after March and before October this is not the place to work. Long days, hard work and little pay is the norm at this company. Hours are dramatically cut back or employees are terminated every fall. Management is very young and inexperienced almost childlike, An unusual amount of office politics is not only allowed but encouraged by management. The most enjoyable part of working at this establishment is the clientele.
Co-workers are under payed and exploited by both management and owner. Owner seems to pray on students, single mothers and employees new to the job market with lower levels of experience and education who do not understand labor laws or the work place.
Pros
It's fast passed and challenging
Cons
Low pay, huge employee change over, no room for advancement
